Mikhail dismissed the blue hologram with a wave, his question carried his frustration, "Dolly how far is the target?"
"Fifteen minutes until visual contact, overflight shows no obstructions." The synthetic feminine voice replied, to which Mikhail followed with "Status of thier damn truck?"
"Overflight indicated that internal systems and reactor are still operational, as are its defensive systems." Dolly responded, "I recommend establishing tightbeam override and shutting down the main power, followed by dispersal of incapacitants."
With a sad nod Mikhail replied, "Corporate is already riding me to get this done fast, they aren't going to like having to cold boot the damn thing."
"Three salvos from primary weapons should down the barrier." Dolly stated with her monotone voice, "Yeah I don't make the rules, ping me when we have visual." Mikhail replied as he laid back in the soft chair.
Idle fingers wandered across the silk-lined cap, its regal purple rim with a delicate white peak crested with an old imperial emblem, the crossed rifle and sword coaxed a wistful sight out of the old man.
He stood and brushed his white hair back, blue eyes locked on the small vanity mirror as he sized up the uniform once more, an accepting nod and he made his way to the front of the walker.
Sand was the first thing to greet Mikhail, the rolling dunes spilled in the harsh wind, a half-crushed town slowly emerged at the end of the two long heavy trails that had lead them here.
"Distance?" Mikhail asked, "Fifteen kilometres." Dolly replied.
The raised control room gave him a wide view of the harsh desert, shimmering mirages carried through the hot air, but within the confines of the Pacifier Urban Suppression Unit he was experiencing a pleasant chill.
"Eyes on replicator, establishing tightbeam..." Dolly announced in her typical tone, "...tightbeam lost, they overrode it."
"So much for the easy plan." Mikhail muttered dejectedly, "Bring it in range." before pridefully seating himself, fingers rapping against sterile white consoles, a small shadow seemed to walk alone along the rough dirt road.
"...the hell is that?"
Dolly reacted instantly, the holographic interface shifted shapes and displayed the mysterious figure, a girl walked forwards through the harsh wind, black hair whipping across her face but her eyes locked to Mikhail's own in a steeled gaze, "...what's she playing at?"
"We are in range."
"Commence firing."
A hum built for a fraction of a second, before the air shattered, brilliant twin blue ion trails carved through the air from the sides of the walker and split as they crashed into the side of a shimmering field, spilling in all directions with a thunderous deafening blast.
The girl still stood, the sand scattered about her feet.
"Barrier destabilizing." Dolly helpfully reminded.
Mikhail blinked and closed the holograms with a dismissive wave of his hand, "...yeah, hit her again." he replied as he stared out through the main canopy towards the simple desert town, the bulk of the replicator truck wedged deeply within a myriad stone homes.
A second salvo sounded, again the brilliant beams lanced forth and cascaded into a million shards upon the shimmering barrier, black smoke began to pour outwards from the back of the replicator truck.
"Barrier stability critical."
Mikhail didn't respond, his mind far elsewhere as his eyes trailed across the horizon of the desert.

A shrill alarm sounded, two metallic bumps echoed across the metal hull about Mikhail, "...what was that?" he asked curiously, before the final salvo fired, immediately met with explosions that rocked the cabin.
"We are under attack." Dolly stated in her perfunctory monotone.
"Well attack back!" Mikhail shouted.
They had already surrounded the vehicle, its colossal segmented white-painted legs struck with rocket after rocket as the shadowy figures darted out and around the dunes, "Lock 'em up, FIRE DAMN YOU!"
Clad in dark robes that whipped in the wind, atop muscular furred beasts, stopping only long enough to sling a launcher to their shoulder and fire a rocket.
Metal turrets span to engage, spewing bright purple bolts at the attacking dogbear Calvary, the walker's own barrier flaring as the projectiles detonated against it, the rapid defensive fire caught one of them and split the beast in half, the person atop crashed into to the sand, smouldering.
The chin turret cut down two of the charging attackers but failed to stop the third, a violent explosion rang out as the entire cabin began to list to the side.
"...I don't get paid enough for this." Mikhail fumed, flipping up a small panel upon his seat and pressing the dark button with a resigned sigh.
"Initiating recall..."
He closed his eyes, a light consumed him, then the walker and soon nothing was left where it stood, devoured by a shimmering energy.
