Halloween is one of the most wonderful times of the year for families across Horrorlandia. Everyone dresses up in various fun costumes and the children go out trick-or-treating where they collect candy and tell jokes. Horrorlandians also have a special tradition where they leave candy and other food items in a separate bowl outside their homes as offerings for the "mačkare" (pronounced: match-kar-eh) who visit them. The "mačkare" are ghosts of souls that have not departed into Heaven. Legend has it that they wander around on Halloween night looking to haunt those who come across them! In order to ward off the negative spirits from their homes, Horrorlandians typically put a bowl of candy and food outside their houses as peace offerings. They also light colourful candles in an effort to "lead the Spirits to God's Eternal light." It is believed and hoped that with these traditions, lost ghostly entities can find their way to Heaven.
