The Natalizio of Agencourt

Nusapasim wrote:

In history books, wars are rarely ignored, and the image of damage and devastation would be delivered clearly to the readers by a complement of pictures. The coasts were breathtaking, but far more attention-stealing were the unplastered blisters of war sprawled across the city, a picture that he could imagine finding in a history book. Evidently, it was a stubborn city, remaining functional with what appeared to be indications of reconstruction and bustling activity that kept society running while breathing in the post-war sizzle. Andri couldn't help but loosen the safety belt a little to lean closer to the window, Trento's worn buildings streaking by under the quivering wing until the plane's shadow was visibly grazing the airport's field. The view was discouraging enough to weaken his grasp onto the armrests, his wait for the thud of landing under his polished dress shoes distracted by the thoughts of these Agencourtians.

    "Forty... Thirty... Twenty... Ten..."

The screech of its back tires sent a smoke of dust and grit into the air, the plane's engines opening with a roaring gust as it slowed down along the runway. The dull terminal later came into view as the plane turned to move out of the runway and taxied toward its lot. After seeing what he could see in the past few minutes before landing, the terminal's Brutalist architecture was no surprise; what was worthy of surprise, however, was how the terminal appeared healthier than the rest of the city. Perhaps it had been hastily reconstructed.

The engine's whir softened as the plane slowly came to a halt. The repetitive set of questions returned to him, but his usual set of answers no longer worked to dismiss it.

"Make way for the president." Air Lieutenant-Marshal of the National Air Force Hudin Garwapanim walked down the plane's front corridor with haste. The presidential plane was almost equal to the Air Force One in self-sufficiency, having its own flight of stairs, now being extended before the door was opened. Hudin managed most of the plane's operations, almost like the captain of a ship but with a plane and a pilot at the helm. His workplace was the presidential plane but despite being in the presence of his commander-in-chief, he rarely talked with him, the wall that impeded them being his strict schedule. Behind the muffled footsteps of his boots on the carpeted floor were two officers sporting the same uniform as him—with matching pants, a dark-blue dress coat over a white shirt and black tie and topped with a peaked cap carrying an almost oversized metal badge—, differences seen on their epaulettes and the ribbons on their left breast. Fiddling with the door, they opened it with visible verve in the effort.

The air was almost a stark contrast. Inside, it was cold, but the outside air rushed in and swatted his nose. The post-war smell was distinct, but the eye-catching view of the airport was given no more than a glance. With his legs still inside, he leaned his torso out to examine the distant surroundings and the nearby corners of the gangway, following protocols of safety. He knew he deserved extra pay; look at this country. Its stability at present is questionable. Compromises to the president's safety could be all over the place, from bad roads to hiding assassins. He, too, asked the repetitive set of questions to himself and, from the lens of his duty, would never find a reliable set of answers. But after looking far and wide, everything appeared to be in order. The two officers were first to leave the plane, flanking the door on the top of the gangway, and Hudin stepped to the side. "Mister President."

Looking through the window and the naked eye were, unto Andri, completely different experiences. He expected a stark difference from what he saw through the window to what he would see through the door and, sure enough, there was a distinction. He was tugging his shirt when he appeared at the door, the atmosphere of Agencourt blanketing him as soon as he took his first breath there. There was a breeze of unease that swept his skin, his lips trying to oppose it with a smile. So this was Agencourt.

Below the flight of stairs was what he believed to be the welcoming party, nothing more than a minor group, it appeared. Hudin left his place and followed the translator behind his back, his face absent of the half-hearted smile that Andri and the translator were trying hard to exhibit.

(Think this is a Strangereal RP? Nope. It's a bilateral RP with only two players.)

Hm, something felt off about the plane's arrival. He was always impatient, despite everything. He checks his watch discreetly, simply tilting his wrist so he could get a decent view. Of course. They had arrived a minute early. It's always the last minute that's agony. Another thing in the President's favour, though d'Appiano is the one who needs to make a good impression.

In terms of stability, it's true that Trento was the second most dangerous place under the control of the transitional government. Here was the lynchpin of crime, wearing a mask of loyalty. But that mask had become the city, in some ways. The syndacites wanted a government just as much as everyone else and had silently agreed to not endanger it. Despite it's danger, inherent in the ruins of once grand buildings and partial instability, this was perhaps the best place one could go, as Aix, the historical center of power, was fractious, with everyone scrambling to throw something together and bet on gaining power and influence, while the isle of Brände, the industrial capital, had open factories but no supplies to build with. It doesn't hurt that Brände has horrific air pollution, either.

History is rarely pretty, unfortunately. The delegation to greet President Andri Rajulina was deliberately kept small for just this reason, as just because the foes of the transitional government have been defeated does not mean they are vanquished. The more important people in one location, the easier it is for people to decapitate a fragile system. So, through both Guilo's misinformation machinations and simple common sense, the people present were one from each of the three major factions, as well as a select other.

Hm, he's descending the staircase now. Perhaps it was a mistake to not requisition the General for this greeting, security protocols and all. Still, the Spider gives the smallest of signals, and the welcoming party's security immediately loosens their tight formation, settling into something formal, but exponentially less practical. No one would make an attempt now that the archipelago had such prestigious guests, right?

The slightly older man to Guilo's side steps forward slightly with the intent to great them. This man, of nervous disposition, with a rough accent, like the feel of gravel beneath the feet. "Welcome to this fair nation of Agencourt, President Andri Rajulina. We apologize for the lack of officials at this welcome party. It is hasty business, preparing for elections while reconstructing an admit-"

"Ahum." slight cough from the Spider, fake, but convincing enough. He can't help but be more dissatisfied, and it's starting to show. What was once a frown that could be put down to disposition is now noticeable. The Council needed a victory if the country were to avoid the monarcho-communist alliance that was the Maroon rebels taking over. The nervous one glances back, not realizing it's a (honestly fairly blatant) signal. A flashed look of concern, and a nod, and the pleasantries are back on.

"Again, we apologize for the state of things. Forging a new government is messy business." Internally, everyone, from Guilo to the dimmest guard was silently grateful for the translator making this sound better than it was. This welcome committee is reflective of the fundamental lie of the transitional government, a façade held together by wishful thinking, bread and circuses, and anti-corruption inquisitions. Somehow, it works.

Guilo just hopes the President isn't versed in Agencourtian tradition enough to request the traditional greeting, established during an era of merchants and muskets - an exchange of hot tea, both sides preparing the other's cup. It's impractical and doesn't make for a good story to maintain the illusion.

Being Secretary-Minister with an actual legislature who can do things without wildly stretching the letter of the law will surely be infinitely easier than this.

(This is a bilateral RP outside Strangereal.)

It took me a month, but I responded.

The Regional Nation of The Northern Light

Greetings everyone!

It is time to announce the winners of the daily card lottery for 2022-07-03:

The Northern Light wrote:The winner of the endotarting lottery is Keeper of the North Scroplia, who has been gifted season 2 legendary card The Grim Reaper.

The winner of the voting lottery is Keeper of the North The stratosphere islands, who has been gifted season 1 legendary card The Archregimancy.

Congratulations to the winners!

If you also want to be considered for the daily card lottery, you should become a Keeper of the North. It doesn't take more than two minutes, and you have a chance to win any of the available legendary cards! You can also exchange endorsements and vote on resolutions to increase your chances of winning.

TL;DR: Win the most valuable NationStates trading cards!
~ Become a Keeper of the North to enter the lottery.
~ Exchange endorsements and vote on resolutions to increase your chances of winning.
~ Win legendary cards for your collection.

Participating in The North Pacific (TNP) WA Development Program (WADP) is a great way to increase the value of your trading card collection. Through our card lottery, every day, two lucky WA nations receive cards of legendary rarity as gift, completely free!

How often does the lottery take place?

We run two lotteries per day: one emphasizing exchanging endorsements (the endotarting lottery), and one emphasizing WA voting (the voting lottery). For each lotterry, we first determine the list of eligible WA nations. We then randomly draw a winner from each list. We finally randomly draw a legendary card to gift to each winner. The selected winners and cards are announced on the regional message board, and are also added to the list of winners below.

How do I become eligible for the lottery?

Here is what you need to do to enter each of the daily lotteries.

~ Become a Keeper of the North to have your name added to all lotteries.
To become a Keeper of the North, you need to join the World Assembly, if you are not already a member, and then endorse Delegate Madjack and all members of the Security Council. All in all, it should not take more than five minutes. Your nation will automatically enter all two daily lotteries each day that you are maintaining your Keeper of the North status.
~ Exchange endorsements to have your name added to the endotarting lottery additional times.
You can endorse other WA nations to increase your chances of winning the endotarting lottery. For each additional WA nation you have endorsed, your name is added to the endotarting lottery one extra time. For example, if there are 1400 WA nations in TNP and you have endorsed everyone, then each day your name is added to the endotarting lottery a total of 1401 times: One for being a Keeper of the North, and 1400 for having endorsed 1400 other WA nations.
~ Vote on resolutions to have your name added to the voting lottery additional times.
You can vote on WA resolutions to increase your chances of winning the voting lottery. For each vote you have cast in the last 30 days, your name is added to the voting lottery one extra time. For example, if you have voted on a total of five resolutions (both General Assembly and Security Council) in the last 30 days, then each day your name is added to the voting lottery a total of six times: One for being a Keeper of the North, and five for the votes you have cast on WA resolutions.
Note that you cannot enter any of the lotteries without being a Keeper of the North, no matter how many other WA nations you have endorsed. But once you are a Keeper of the North, endorsing others and voting consistently helps increase your chances of winning. Additionally, the Delegate, members of the Security Council, and members of the North Pacific Army are excluded from the card lottery.

This sounds complicated, how do I find out how likely I am to win the lottery?

We have put together lists showing the chances each eligible nation has to win each of the daily lotteries. These lists update daily. If you are not listed, then that means that you are not eligible, which you can fix by becoming a Keeper of the North.

Which cards can I win in the lottery?

Gift cards are selected at random with equal odds from among the list of all Linkseason 1 and Linkseason 2 legendary cards available in the deck of regional nation The Northern Light. This list includes some of the most valuable cards available.

It is the end of the month, why was there no lottery today?

On the last day of the month, the lottery winners are not selected randomly. Instead, legendary cards are gifted to the winners of three top-10 categories of the WADP monthly awards. Additionally, epic cards are gifted to the winners of all awards other than the New WA Member Shout-out. Therefore, competing for the WADP monthly awards provides you with another way to win multiple free cards: up to three legendaries and five epics per month!

Legendary gift cards are selected in the same way as for the daily lottery. Epic gift cards are selected randomly from among the epic cards available in the decks of nations Card farmer 1 to Card farmer 2500.

Where can I find the lottery results for previous days?

The results of the lottery are announced on The North Pacific's RMB. Below you can find a list of all previous results announcements. The winners and gifted cards are also tabulated in Linkthis Google spreadsheet.

Are there any other ways I can get free cards?

Yes! You can join The North Pacific Cards Guild, which will allow you to take part in all sorts of card-related activities, such as collection competitions, pull events, and so on. In particular, you can request any non-legendary card you want in our Great Card Giveaway, and we will gift it to you as soon as we find it.

Additionally, you can participate in the executive government and win free legendary and epic cards through the Executive Card Rewards. To maximize the number of cards you can win, you can join the Executive Staff, Cards Guild, and North Pacific Army.

Where do the legendary cards used in the lottery come from?

The government of The North Pacific operates nations Card farmer 1 to Card farmer 2500, and uses them to expand the card collection of regional nation The Northern Light. This includes the legendary cards used for the lottery.

Can I help?

If you would like to contribute, please feel free to donate cards you do not need to regional nation The Northern Light. We are particularly interested in cards of common rarity, of nations that have ceased to exist, and with eight or fewer owners. Thanks in advance for your cards!

It's still a work in progress, mind you

Ah. It looks far better than what I throw together, so far.
All things considered, I am fine, if tired. I have been on the road since yesterday evening.
