The Federal Republic of The Enclave congressional armed forces

Suspected terrorist fugitive James Kendrick, from AusValia, was apprehended earlier this morning by internal security forces while attempting to evade a peacekeeping checkpoint in the northern region of the Enclave. While the Department of Foreign Affairs is looking to reach out to AusValia diplomats to discuss the prisoners fate, the Federal Government has seen it fit to hand over the prisoner to the EDOD for “non-evasive interrogation”, citing concerns over possible threats to national security.

The Holy Empire of Kkhano

July 12th, 1971: somewhere in the far north of Dissopoloforia. A man wearing a long gown and a large crown on his head is sitting down in a chair, with a small boy in his lap. Despite the age difference, they have some similar facial features, such as their jet black hair, similarly dark eyes, and pale, almost ghost-like skin tone. The two are sitting in a tent on the top of a hill, the older man overlooking soldiers doing drill practice in the fields below while the little boy laughs hysterically at something his father just told him.
“Ahaha! You’re so funny daddy, tell me another story!” At this request, the man stroked his beard in thought for a moment.
“Well... what story do you want to hear?”
“Hmmm... how about the story about home?”
“Ah, that’s a good one, now let me remember...”

“Many years ago, in 1636, four men in the northern regions of Hungary were not happy with the current state of the Svarizian government they were living under; so they hopped on some boats and escaped to a place far to the south. They called this place Kkhano - the Svarizian word for scales, like balance, and there they set about creating a far better place than the one the had come from. Unfortunately, these four men soon fell out due to their different ideals, but one - our ancestor, Terrasov Mítlis - outsmarted them all, and he restored balance to Kkhano. After this, the Mítlis family continues to rule the region, even through a brief occupation by the Kingdom of Hungary; and as Mítlis had always done, it was Kkhano’s duty to maintain the balance in the region, whatever state it may be in. However as the rulers of Kkhano in the 1800s looked out at the world, they realised that not just northern Wasaru was out of balance, but the whole world was: troubles, torture, and terror wrecked every corner of the globe; and we wouldn’t stand for it. Kkhano set out to takeover as many places as they could to rectify the wrongs of every other nation: however they couldn’t see what we could and around a century later, the nations who hadn’t been cured of their wrongdoings formed a coalition and drove us away, putting the world back where it was before. We would not bow down to this however, and we ran away first to Jadefall, then to northern Dissopoloforia to hide from the rest of the world, so they wouldn’t attempt to crush us before we could fix them again. As we left Jadefall, we took some of their best soldiers as a... parting gift, and they were made to have families that too would grow up to be soldiers: we gave these people a home they wouldn’t have otherwise, in return for them loyally serving in the new Kkhanoese army as born and bred soldiers. And that:” he pauses to tap his child on the nose, who up until this point has been staring at him in admiration “is the story of our home”
“Wooooow... but, why are we in charge?”
“Ah, you see, that’s something Mítlis had that everyone forgets about - or chooses to ignore, perhaps. Sure, he was smart and devious and a brilliant strategist; but he had a more... unorthodox power. He could use the energy from specific, unknown power sources to convert energy from his mind into different kinds of what would normally be referred to as spells, but it would be more accurate to call them mind-beams: or scientifically, Zodiac Energy. The Mítlis family has this power, up until the war of the Third Coalition, when the object used to control it was stolen from us by the king of Svalbard, Yggdrasil Hakoen. For our family to regain this power, we must regain this item - and reopen the sources of power for this energy, which have been closed for over a century now out of fear”
“Amazing... I’m gonna do that dad, I’m gonna restore Kkhano and our own power!”
“Hehehe, I’m sure you would, if I didn’t do it first ahahahaha!”
“Ahahahahahahaha...”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Present day, almost the exact same location, in a similar tent
“Hah... hmm, perhaps that day may actually come sooner than we thought” A now middle aged man was sitting in a makeshift ‘throne’ overlooking the same hill he had been almost 50 years ago; with a distinct lack of his father’s lap to sit on. He was now sat tightly in the chair, gripping viciously on the arm rests. He sensed something... many things, actually. A conflict between some extraterrestrial powers, millions of voices crying out for help suddenly being cut short, people of power feeling insecure and unprepared... all this and more told him one thing: “The world’s balance is falling apart, our time to rise again will soon be here” Was what he said to... absolutely no one, because he was sitting in a private tent on top of a hill where no one else could possibly here him. Realising this, he scoffed at himself. “Well, I certainly do a good job at sounding melodramatic, should be good at scaring other people then.”
“Anyway:” He said while getting up, picking up some kind of radio transmitter in the process “if that’s the case then I should probably start acting on that intelligence our spies have brought us for the past, what, 80 years? Yeah, should be good. Ah good, she picked up”
On the other side of the transmitter, an exceedingly tall woman with long blond hair picked up on the other end of the line. Her enormous black overcoat with a Kkhanoese scale pinned on to the upper left corner signified her as a commanding officer - and a high ranked one at that. When she picked up the transmission, her voice had a slight hint of annoyance in it, and an even greater hint of malevolence
“Who is it? it better be good because you disrupted the 10th division’s training session.”
“Settle down there Lily, we don’t all like high strung ladies you know?”
“Ugh, if this is another prank call Ladislaus, there’ll be hell to pay”
“Oh no, quite the opposite in fact, this is a call of utmost importance!”
“Then what’s it about?”
“I’ve decided to put you in charge!”
“...this is a prank call isn’t it?”
“No no, I mean it! Well, it won’t be a permanent arrangement, let’s just say I’m taking a... vacation... somewhere, the details aren’t important. Anyway, I need someone to run things while I’m not here; and you know you, you’re strict, efficient, scary, tall, loyal to the cause, all the good things, so I thought who better to be temporary first in command than you?”
“Well... if you say so then, I’ll get to it”
“Excellent! You do that, I’ll do whatever I’m doing, and you’ll wait for me to come back: all’s good!”
At that, both parties turned of their transmitters and went back to what they were doing: Lily returned to drilling, whilst Ladislaus packed for his trip, then went to his private helicopter
As he stepped inside, the pilot leaned back and asked him an obvious question:
“Where to, boss?”
“Svalbard; go over the north side, there’s a smaller military presence there and it’s got want we want”
“I’ll just get to it and not ask why you want to go there”
“Heh, you know me so well already - then again, most do, or they don’t end up being on this mortal plane for too long”
The Denmarkian News
Local elections
OOC; I started the elections sometime ago, but honestly just put it on ice for a while because of being unmotivated, but this time I’ll make sure I finish it.
Today the Denmarkians, no matter their race, the colour of their skin, or background, be voting for their Mayor who will represent them on the municipality level, the first states to have opened the gates for voting are as follows; København, Ringsted, Aabenraa, Odense, Aalborg, Svendborg, and Ny Gabborg.
Whilst the listed states have already made their preparations, many others are in the process of making sure that everything will go as smoothly and safely as according to the rules, which is something of utmost importance in such a situation. While speculation is currently low in this level of voting, many experts have expected that it won’t be as easy for the People’s Voice to take a majority in the municipality level, which is one of many new worries for the current government, as early polling results have shown a majority would seriously take some luck, if not a miracle, with the number of new parties racing to enter the political scene.
Whilst the political terrain is shifting, support for the ruling government has yet to be seen wavering, as its party leader, Mikkel Hansen, is as popular, if not more, when he entered his second term. Only time will tell if a third term is possible in such conditions as these.
OOC; Well, at least I’ve kicked the tin-can further down the road, hope this wasn’t too badly made.
Now here's the new news, the Birch and Oak clans seemingly had enough of each other and now a whole new turf war has begun! And it is pure chaos! Explosives and bullets flying everywhere, ans it just makes it extra beautiful that these two clans are the Vehichles specialist! There are races and gunfights everywhere between the two largest clans, and mercenaries from other clans have begun to join both sides.
M: "And in other news, the robot project from a few months ago has given great results, already we have met multiple factions, although from recordings some of the interactions weren't all positive. The Junglewood Clan has stated that in two nations our machines where met with hostile force, while in others it seems like they are almost ignored. More news will come about when contacts have been made."
Jezabelstien
Royal Garden Hotel, Outskirts of Neo Neo Neo Jhanthu, Kjanu.
Rosie's body ached from the oddly cold night winds, forgoing the trams to trudge her way in a vain effort of stowing the unease... she'd seen these streets before, blasted and bare of life; her memories at odds with the pristine facade rapidly assembled for the 'new' Jhanthu, sterile as the rest of the damned country.
Her destination finally in sight, the closing few steps towards a transparent glass front of an old stone building, devilishly restructured to look like a colonial manor with all its gargoyles and stone-faced totems intact.
The seamless doors slid open, almost immediately the pink-haired receptionist stood up from behind her minimalist white desk and briskly walked to Rosie's side, taking the heavy travel suitcase in hand with a wide and fake smile as she motioned to the elevator, "Your room is all ready miss!... second floor, can't miss it."
Rosie had barely begun to approach before the polished metal entrance slide open silently, causing a mild hesitation before stepping into the varnished wood interior, the doors clasping shut behind as it descended rapidly without prompt...
When it finally opened again, the harsh scent of recirculated air bombarded Rosie, clacks and clattering of metal on metal echoed down the concrete corridor as a young man in dull gray fatigues stormed up and shoved a cardboard folder into Rosie's hands, "This is all we got, things just got big..." he stated sharply before marching off through the corridor towards the distant sound of militant preparation.
With one path ahead, her thoughts soured; "...goddess damned piece of..." echoing through her mind as she opened up the folder, black and white photographs plastered the interior, grainy and hazy but the unmistakable gaunt figure of something humanoid stood against the distant flames of what was once a town.
A glimpse through the bulkhead door at the end of the corridor was a young woman loading magazines with vigorous purpose, with a storm of muttered profanity Rosie murdered a; "Something big indeed." before clasping the folder shut and throwing it to the floor.
The Royal Constitutional Regency of United Kingdom of Miotia-Candor
Amatsumikaboshi, Pupatory, United Kingdom(BGM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAZKjQZFLOg)
The sun was up, the sky was clear, the blowing wind from the sea blows directly through the silky curtains.
Hearing the sound of the calm waves, as if time itself has slowed down.
“Kana, Wake up~ Wake up!”
The short light gold dyed haired girl rolling onto the side facing the wall, burying her face deeper into the pillows. Ichihara Kana attempts to ignore both the sound of the alarm and Mashiro’s voice.
“Ugh- what's with you today.... just one more hour, Mashiro~”
“We’ll be late for class, Kana. Mr Konishi will be mad at us again!”
Getting annoyed by her roommate’s voice, she threw her pillow at Mashiro, tackle, and pushed her down on the floor in her blanket Causing a mess in the room as plushies fell from the shelves.
“How dare you disturb my beauty slumber!~”
She smirks and said to Mashiro, who was now trapped under the blanket with Kana on top. Except it didn’t happen.
None of this did.
What Kana pushed down was nothing but card boxes, no plushies fell, because they simply weren’t there. So is her friend.
Awaken from her daydream, facing the cold cracked ground of a plant covered ruined apartment complex, Kana sits up slowly.
The alarm clock was still beeping.
[jr]
Slowly reaching for the alarm and turns it off.
Looking out the shattered window, A strange feeling of nostalgia hits.
The same town, the same view.
Beyond the sea of green ruined buildings, construction of the bright white New Amatsuikaboshi city could be seen in the distance as massive cranes are being installed.
Picking up the pillow and stood up in her pajamas.
Looking around the room, nothing much from the past was left, only this cracked picture frame.
A picture of an older, easier time.
A picture of Kana, Mashiro and three more of her friends smiling on stage in front of the local coastal monument.
The sky in the picture was as clear as it is today.
‘Celestial5 idol group Amatsumikaboshi concert 6/4/2008’
Although some may say it was a period of illusion and blind happiness.
To her, whether it was blind or not, it didn’t matter. What matters is that it happened.
After taking a shower from the waterfall that formed when this building collided with the next, connected to the mountain.
The songs of birds and the calming sound of leaves could be heard along with the waterfall.
Putting on a straw hat, all shorts, she returned to her room.
She quickly packed her belongings, including the picture frame, and began to slowly climb down the ruins by sliding down the vines.
“Safe~”
She said once she touches the ground.
The half collapsed ruins and the plants made a rather interesting shading on the campus. While the campusis indeed covered by the shadows, tiny streams of light were able to leak through. A perfect balance between light and dark.
Turning on her radio, she dances as she walks through the campus.
Passing through the library, boys dormitory, the labs, the office, and finally the rusty gates.
She stopped in front of the gate, closed her eyes.
A lively town and campus could be heard and felt.
Students of that era lining up at the bakery across to get breakfast. The old lady who always talks with the patrolling police in the morning, the security guard who slacks off.
And finally, herself, she racing with her friends to the campus entrance despite that fact they’re university students.
And the same police would always tell them to stop with such childish acts.
“It’s nice to be young”
The old lady would always say.
“As if I would let you get a 3 streak in a row, Kana!”
“Sigh, why are we doing this every morning…. I wanna sl-”
“Mashiro surely has it easy, having Kana waking you up every morning.”
While the four were chattering, Kana reaches the gates again. Laughing with pride.
Daydreams are nice.
It allows you to dive into your memories to experience lost things once more.
Opening her eyes, Kana turns and looks at the now ruined campus taken back by mother nature.
“I think it looks better this way”
She said, as she bows at the campus before leaving.
Walking along the beach to avoid road blockades.
“The sand is surely hot.”
She said, quickly walks closer to the sea.
The clear and clear waves calmly washes her legs as the bright sun continues to shine onto the beach without any blockades of the clouds.
No ships, cars, nor people for miles, it was just her.
Taking out a camera, it was an old model. The camera had mascot stickers.
Standing on the beach, she took a picture of the green city ruins, beach, and finally the shipless vast ocean with the destroyed Rias space elevator in the distance.
Walking a little further, taking out her picture frame. Confirming the location.
It was the stage they performed on 12 years ago.
Due to the main structure was originally carved out of stone, it is well preserved.
However the stage is covered in collapsed metallic structures.
The seats are now covered in sand.
She carefully climbed onto the stage, avoiding sharp objects.
Standing at the center, the center of the stage, the center of the world.
“This surely brings back memories, right? Laruna? Charlotte? Chifuya? Mashiro?”
They four nodded in agreement behind her.
Smiling from their responses, she took out her the camera once more, and took pictures of the area.
And finally the group.
“These pictures will certainly make an attractive article.”
She said to herself happily, and continues her journey through the post apocalyptic nation, towards south, alone.[/quote]
5km from miraculum cell spiral tree, ground zero, Hinomoto, United Kingdom
The great Hinomoto wasteland is now covered in unknown harmless plantations caused by the outbreak of the miraculum cell and the incident back in the abandoned underground orphanage.
At the heart of it, there stood a 2.6-kilometer tree-like structure that reshaped the United Kingdom’s skyline in a single afternoon. Its pollen also cured the teardrop plague for Serpentuem, also ending the war on both sides. The massive tree is currently guarded by one of the few remaining Arsenal Rays. Ground zero is currently an extremely guarded area, however, it is not close to civilian visit, this is because of the teardrop plague treatment center Serpentuem set up there.
The United Kingdom never had time to nor the resources to prevent former residents from returning to the area to rebuild their homes. The people who returned to their home quickly adapted to the new scenery, massive craters, collapsed highways, plant-covered ruins, the spiral tree, and more. Despite knowing the United Kingdom would never be the same again after having casualties of 21 million and still counting, due to the large scale destruction of security cameras, law enforcement has greatly weakened. For the past months, the public security and the military police has launched a countless crackdown on self-governing criminal territories.
In this certain vast grassy plain under a cloudless sky, an old black diesel convertible car stopped by the side of the road, just next to the melted lamp post.
“So that’s where Jezabelstien’s laser was hit huh?”
Shinozaki scrolling the news on her phone as she lean on the seat, facing the sun under the protection on a pair of sunglasses.
Meanwhile Marissa went over to the bush to take a sample of the plantation that thrived on the glass like crater caused by Irene’s light.
Injecting the sample into a small handle testing device with both the SSS and Yotsubashi logo on the back. Waiting for the testing result, Marissa looked around for any incomign cars, then took off her hood, letting her feline ears out.
“As expected these plants are also caused by the miraculum cells.”
Marissa reported back to Shinozaki as she packs up the medical equipment.
“Do you really think Akko is still somewhere in there?”
Shinozaki asks Marissa as she turns to look at the branches spiral tree a kilometer above.
“If what that madman Mendelson said was right, the miraculum cells twists one’s wish into physical form. Just like what happened to the orphanage, and ever-improving organ production system, harvesting to learn, to improve, to save. However, it killed more than it saved.”
Marissa casually explained as she lay on the soft ground covered by grass as she looked up at the coloussal tree in front of her.
“The miraculum cells… perhaps it wanted a purpose. That’s why they take in desires and materialize them. That’s why I believe they are.”
Marissa said, closing her eyes and taking a nap under the warmth of the sun.
“Semi-sentinel single-cell organism theory huh. Not bad, but I wonder if those old people in the medical society could take it, especially when it’s a report written by someone who just recently joined.”
“You’re probably right Shinozaki, I doubt they would take it seriously hahaha.”
.
.
.
The two enjoyed the scenery and the close feeling of nature by the breezing wind.
“Well, I guess it’s time we should go.”
Marissa suggested as she gets up and puts on her hood.
“You sure? I’m not sure if you could see the tree as clearly as here in Edokyuuria, shouldn't you spend a bit more time?”
Shinozaki asks as she fixes the driver seat.
“I’m good, I’m sure I would be able to see it from the Senate Terminal arcology.”
“...”
Marissa walked over to one of the smaller giant roots of the colossus tree, hugging it.
“I’ll come to visit again, Akko.”
.
.
.
“We have no choice but to go through the northern ruins, the highway is pretty much collapsed.”
Shinozaki explained as she started the engine. Marissa puts the suitcase in the backseat as she helps to set the GPS guide.
“Ugh forget it, we’ll use the physical map instead.”
Shinozaki muttered in slight frustration since most of the listed routes are unavailable.
“Good thing your sister still kept a diesel car, otherwise we won’t be able to come all the way out here without recharging.”
Marissa commented as she took out the map from Shinozaki’s bag.
“Inaban isn’t a big fan of electric cars after all.”
Shinozaki replied as she stepped on the gas.
New Maidpara cafe, Senate Terminal Arcology, Edokyuuria crater
The military police intelligence branch that had been covered up as a maid cafe, Maidpara was unusually crowded today. The cafe was moved to the mall district of the Arcology, the original shop was destroyed along with the entirety of the great Edokyuuria urban district, which is now known as the Edokyuuria crater.
“And so? You came here to ask for love advice. What are you, a high schooler?”
Sutsushi replied, with disappointment. She is one of the military police officers stationed here, and also a former guard of the old Shinozaki administration. Along with communist force defector Albert Lionheart, she and Shinozaki fought their way to escape the former senate terminal during the civil war period.
Their friendship with Akima and Inaban was built after that.
“You do know that you're the only one I could ask.”
Akima replied, frustrated by her insult.
“Have you taken her out on a date?”
“Sieg is in ruins...”
“Perfect. I’m sure you can see the entire galaxy at night, there’s not much light pollution now isn’t it? Why not use that to your advantage?”
Naval Academy and HQ, Sieg-II
Meanwhile on the deck of the constructing DDR-N241, nuclear destroyer Hakuhou.
“Admiral, why am I here? And why are you asking me for love advice?”
Albert Lionheart asked after hearing the request from Inaban. He does not want to get involved in this matter at all.
Chancellor's office, Senate Terminal Arcology, Edokyuuria crater
Cleaning up the documents, piling them, putting them on the table was an unusual act of our lazy hikikomori Chancellor Fuyuki Mashiro.
“It’s finally done.”
She muttered as she took a long look around her organized office for the first time.
“I guess it’s a new start from here.”
She muttered as she carefully sneaked out of the office, putting on a pair of glasses, letting her hair loose, she casually took the elevator to the parking lot.
“Now I can’t be late for Tatiana’s hospital discharge can I?”
Vice GE Victoria knocked on the door, no response. Mashiro must’ve fallen asleep again, that’s what she thought.
She forcefully opened the door, slamming it as she called Mashiro. The room was extremely organized to a point she couldn’t believe it. She had to close the door and open them again to make sure it wasn’t an illusion.
Northern Edokyuuria Ruins, Old Miotus, United Kingdom
“Take a good look, Marissa. This place used to be part of the great Edokyuuria urban district. You’ve probably seen the old skyline from the pictures back in the orphanage 20 years ago… well if you remember-”
Shinozaki explained as she carefully drives through the plant-covered ruins. The district has completely returned to nature, forests were grown from the ruined apartments as water walls could be seen coming off from the former offices and malls.
“It’s hard to imagine this was once a metropolis.”
She replied, looking at the plant-covered concrete structures that seemed like it would reach the sky.
“Are these also caused by the miraculum cells?”
Marissa asked as she looked at the abandoned restaurants and shops covered in vines.
“Oh no, these places were here like this, way before the outbreak.”
“I see.”
“The bushes are getting really dense here…”
Shinozaki muttered as she slowed down the car even more. Marissa continues to observe the abandoned street view of the northern urban district. The two were unaware of something, falling above them.
“UNYAAAAA”
A girl fell into the back seat of their car. The two were startled, and Shinozaki immediately stepped on the break.
“That hurts…”
The girl said as she held onto the doors as support to get up.
“Shinozaki, did she just… fell... from..”
“She sure did. Marissa.”
The girl quickly swipes the dust off her pants and fixes her bag, judging from her camera showing in her bag, and the notebook in her hands. She seems to be a journalist of some sort.
“I did make it! Yay!”
She seems very proud of her jump.
“Excuse me… but who are you?”
Shinozaki asks, extremely confused by this girl’s behavior.
“Me? I’m traveling journalist Ichihara Kana~! A former idol of the Celestial Five~!”
Midquel 3
Block N4L2 Lobby, Senate Terminal Arcology, Edokyuuria crater
Mikel Blaney was certainly relieved the moment he saw the door of the crowded elevator opened. Office workers of sorts in suits quickly rushed out to head back after their lunch break.
Verteran Lieutenant Mikel Blaney of Serpenteum’s special force that survived the abandoned orphanage compound. He left the military, traumatized and decided to move to Edokyuuria following a suggestion by a frenemy he met during the operation, Sakamoto Ryoma, who seems to be on a mission to protect a strange girl, Marissa.
After the flesh and gore mass covered the compound were turned into plantation, creating the Spiral Tree Speranta Anomaly. The expansion and the restructuring of the miraculum cells formed a tunnel, allowing them to the surface. It was most likely Akko’s doing, that’s what Marissa insisted on. The moment they arrive at the surface, the war has stopped as the plantation continues to infest the wasteland destroying most of the United Kingdom’s Aragami security drones on the field. At the same time a compound of unknown within the pollen of the tree cured the Teardrop plague. It was that moment when both sides ceases fire. The tree could be seen anywhere in the United Kingdom after all.
“If you ever quit, come over to Edokyuuria, I’m sure I can get something to work with.”
That was what Sakamoto said, as he went on the chopper.
Stepping out of the newly installed elevator of the Edokyuuria Arcology, holograms could be seen everywhere simulating sceneries of pre-war Edokyuuria. In other words, a metropolis that reaches even beyond the horizon. Blaney has never been to Edokyuuria, he has only seen the city from television and other United Kingdom entertainment programs such as anime.
Despite the hologram covered hallway, different shops and government departments have hologram advertisements on their own. Making the scenery rather complicated, busy and somewhat annoying.
He walks over to the information center, asking direction for the immigration office within the ministry of foregin affair block.
Getting off the train, arriving to foregin affair block. Instead of holograms, the wall of the seven stories tall lobby was made of some sort of reinforced glass. There was even a door to the outer ringed balcony outside, where restaurants and cafes reside.
Blaney checks his ticket, there was still some time until when he is required to show up in the front office. He steps outside as everything turns to white due to the strong sun’s reflection onto the crater sea that last interrestial war has created. A single surviving Arcology above a small landmass at the center of world’s largest crater, and lake. Half submerged ruins of the former urban district could be seen near the shore of the Arcology. Four massive bridges stretch out to the shadows barely visible on the horizon. The wind was rather strong today, the flags of MoonBucks and WcDonalds could be seen blown straight toward the north.
He took out his binocular from his bag, a parting gift from the military. He then looks towards the shadows on the horizon with it. It was just a bunch of half submerged ruins. No land, the crater was clearly bigger than he expected.
Just how many people died here?
He thought. Remembering the holographic pre-war images of the capitol. Edokyuuria was destroyed by a Valrassari WMD about 9 months ago. The sole surviving structure was the mainframe of the Senate Terminal, now remodeled to an Arcology, due to the decreased population.
How many people made it out alive? The idea of tens of millions being incinerated within seconds has gotten his hand to shake in fear.
He decided this was enough, as he put away his binocular, a young woman crashed into him, pushing him to the ground, dropping the serpenteum military grade binocular to the ground, cracking one of the lens. At the same time, she dropped her glasses.
“I’m so sorry!”
She immediately apologized as she got up from him. Blaney slowly sits up, trying to absorb what just happened. A woman probably in her 30s picked up his binocular, including the shattered pieces. She brushes her brown long hair aside as she looks for her glasses. She was wearing a somewhat XXL size coat that was clearly not her size… she is giving off this clumsy type of person feeling.
“Oh- um- It’s fine.”
Blaney replied as he stood up with the support of the handrail on the side. She picks up her glasses from the ground and quickly puts it back on as if it was some sort of disguise.
“Ehhh…. Ehhh.. umm… well…… Right…”
Looking at the unique binocular model, it had an insignia of a snake engraved.
She thought for a moment and answered nervously.
“Here’s my contact. I’m sorry, but I’m currently in a hurry…… I’ll pay for the repairs.”
“Huh.. well… It’s fine-”
Before Blaney could reject her offer, the young woman just pushed her business card into his hand.
“I’m soooo sorry!”
Her apology could be heard as she ran off into the distance, toward the parking eastern parking block.
“....well.”
He muttered as he turned to the card in his hand. It was something that looked like a supermarket discount point card. She must’ve mixed it up.
“Seriously... “
Blaney sighed and put the point card into his wallet.
He waited outside until it was about time to enter the warrant office. Checking his phone as he sat at the waiting area, trying ignore the discriminating stares from the Miotian elderly next to him. And some gossip from the Candorian girls behind him.
That’s right, despite both governments being willing to work together again, the scars of war obviously haven't been healed on either side.
Blaney felt their stare could and gossiping could crush him any moment, hoping for his queue number to be called soon.
“No. 235 Please come to front desk 04”
Blaney was relieved when he heard the announcement. He quickly picks up his bag and left for the counter.
Waiting for the office worker to finish copying his documents, Blaney looks up to the glass ceiling after a commercial airship passes by.
“An airship? That’s rare.”
The airship seems to be some sort of government advertisement. It had a simple display hanging below the hull. Posters of different politicians could be seen.
“Come to think of it, it’s almost time for the Miotia-Candor’s election.”
Blaney mumurred. As the blimp changes its angle, a certain candidate caught his attention. This young candidate was running for her second term. However, something about her looks seems to be familiar to someone he...
“Wait a minute.”
Yotsubishi Tanabe Pharma Akademe Hospital,Akademe-Stadt-II, Edokyuuria Crater
When she was getting off her car, her long brownish black hair was stuck, and curled up on her seat.
“Ack- That hurts.”
Mashiro mumurred after her first attempt to get off her car resulted in pulling her hair. Quickly untying them from the seat.
When was the last time she let her hair loose like this? She questions herself as she closes and locks the door. She then turned her attention at the small burnt and deformed mascot figurine hanging from the rear-view mirror. On the back of the mascot “6/4/2008 Celestial-5 Concert” was printed onto it.
“...”
After a long sad look at the mascot, she turns and walks toward the hospital entrance.
Following the nurse’s guidance, Mashiro arrives at room 014 at the local Yotsubishi Tanabe Pharma Hospital. Opening the door, the full special Tod division was already there. Graf, Hijikata, and Okita were already there talking and laughing as they played a sort of card game. Tatiana was on the patient bed staring out at the Edokyuuria crater lake like a doll.
“Who’s there!?”
Hijikasta asks immediately, turning toward the door as he drops his NoU cards. They obviously couldn't recognize her with her disguise.
Mashiro takes off her glasses after she closes the door with a big smile and said:
“It’s me Mar*o!”
“Give the 4th wall a goddamn break!” x3
“So you sneaked out… of your office again…?”
Okita asks as he shuffles the deck of cards for a new game.
“How rude! I came out here to ‘visit war veterans’ and gain supporters for the upcoming elections!”
Mashiro replied sarcastically before breaking into a giggle.
“Right. Right. You’ve got your priorities right.”
Graf agreed with an unconvinced tone.
“So how is she doing?”
She changes the topic and turns over to Tatiana, who is still staring out at the lake.
Silence quickly filled the room as no one wanted to answer.
“When she activated the stone, something caused the miraculum emulated neurons in her amygdala to change. Even good old war criminal Pure Gene Research Institution’s bioengineering copyright code has been messed up. If she did develop any emotion before the incident just like you people claimed, she must’ve lost it during it. ”
A voice could be heard from behind. The group quickly turned over to the door, realizing the doctor just entered.
“You are?”
Mashiro quickly puts on her glasses and asks.
“I’m Alfred Heller, the doctor in charge of her treatment.”
The man in his 40s claimed as he leaned on the door.
“A Heller… you’re the army minister-”
Hijikata muttered, he was quickly cut off.
“Nick? Yeah, he’s my brother.”
He explained with a smile.
Unlike the rest of the operatives, Mashiro felt uneasy. The combined ministry of defense led by Inaban Fuyu was short lived, independent military branches returned to their original command structure right before the start of the Serpenteum war back in May 2019.
Despite the navy under admiral Inaban continuing to support the democratic side, the army that has been getting their budget cut still mainly consist of the pre-civil war regime’s personnels. Not to mention how mysterious the airforce acts with their increased budget approved due to the ever growing threat down south. The only thing that prevented another coup after the both the Valrassari and Serpenteum war was the new ATHENA law enforcement system.
If anything, the army will want to get their hands on the miraculum cells research data to overthrow the evergrowthing military police due to the mass production of Aragami units under ATHENA.
This person, Alfred Heller is related to General Nick Heller. Has he gotten the data he wants from Tatiana? No.. this hospital has installed a stress scan…. Eh? What if Yotsubishi Corporation works with the army? Won’t that disable the stress scan within this building-
*beep*
“Eh?”
An alert came directly from Mashiro’s phone, cutting off her thought.
Even if it was just her imagination, the doctor seems to have slightly grin.
It was noticed from the ATHENA system, warning of her own stress level rosen by 4.34.
“Miss Mashiro?”
Hijikata asked after seeing Mashiro’s pale face for the first time.
“Yeah? Yeah.. sorry. It's something about work... “
Mashiro vaguely explained before packing up her belongings. She then walks over to Tatiana.
Tatiana turns over looking at her with the soulless eyes that resembles ones of a dead fish.
Holding her cold hands, Mashiro smiled as the sun shines into the room.
“How are you feeling?”
“...Who?”
She really doesn’t remember.
“Well, I’m Mashiro Fuyuki, nice to meet you, again.”
“Mahiro…”
“You’re going back already?”
Graf asks in slight disappointment, however he seems to understand. Mashiro walks to the door, passing by the doctor.
“Try to stay mentally healthy.. Young chancellor.”
The doctor creepily whispered as Mashiro passed by.
“You too... “
Mashiro replied without looking back at him.
Haruhabara-II, Edokyuuria crater
The capital of the United Kingdom’s anime and manga industry, Haruhabara has been rebuilt on a section of the reclaimed land just outside of the Arcology.
In the sea of electric cars, the was one that still runs on diesel.
“I don’t even know where we are going to find a gas station here if we run out of gas..”
Shinozaki complained as she drove. Marissa now with her hood on, covering her feline features is now looking at the new complex central district’s map.
“Shinyazaki. When you said Edokyuuria is a multilayer city hellscape, I didn’t expect this.”
Marissa complained, trying her hardest to assist Shinozaki in the rebuilt capital.
The unexpected guest, Ichihara Kana, a strange self proclaimed journalist started taking pictures of the scenery. Her face was full of curiosity like a child.
“Celestial five… isn’t that a famous university idol group that disbanded like 12 years ago after that certain terroris”
Shinozaki asks the childish but she was immediately cut off before she could finish.
“That’s not true! We’ve been traveling the nation performing lately!”
“Oh… is that so?”
Shinozaki replied, she isn’t much of an idol fan, its natural if she doesn’t know.
“Anyway where should we drop you off? We’re going to Haruhabara military police headquarters.”
Shinozaki asked as she made a turn to the indoor electronic street.
“Ummm, can you get me to Arcology entrance block N8L1?”
“No problem.”
URN Hakuhou N241, Naval Academy and Headquarters, Sieg-II
“She’s big.”
Inaban with a safety helmet commented on the Heavy aviation destroyer Hakuhou under construction.
“She surely is.”
One of her former students and New chief engineer Helena May next to her replied. They watch the second experimental nuclear reactor slowly being installed in the shipyard while other engineers are connecting the electric platings. A section of the CFRP hull is submerged in water to test the newly developed “Mask” device. One that generates bubbles to distract torpedo sensors as a last result.
As the two continue to admire the massive vessel, Inaban receives a phone call from the Naval Academy.
“Yeah?”
...
“What do you mean there’s a visitor from Feng standing in the front gate?”
Inaban left the shipyard and heads back to the academy to meet this unusual visitor.
UKMC Season 2
Dear Itashikir,
How are you doing? Despite the unfortunate warfares that had taken place over here, I’m doing very well over here in the Republic.
Do you still remember that fateful day we met? Wheatfield that goes as far as to the horizon. Visible waves of wind passed through the field as we sat, and enjoyed the view of that summer starry night.
My memory of that day was as fresh as if it was yesterday.
This field where I currently settled certainly reminded me of Omoikane, our home.
Today marks the 23rd anniversary since we left.
I know it is still difficult for you to accept.
Love, Opere
June 4th, 3:20am
The humanoid figure puts away the letter as the Shinkansen emerges from the tunnel. The ruined and plant-covered view of the former Amatsumikaboshi could be seen. Especially the former local university campus and the concert stage at the beach. The fans and families of the victims of the Celestial 5 idol group gathered at the stage as the annual memorial ceremony held by the local university began.
To their own surprise, he did not turn away from looking at it.
They remember the scenery twelve years ago very well. They were simply following the chairman’s orders at that time. Morally blinded by their people’s fury and helplessness, they finally did what he was told.
For a certain period of time that guilt of what they did haunt them. However, these feelings started to turn dull as the years went on. Reason was one of the few things they still hold onto.
They know the path he chose was not of a hero’s.
“Justice must be done through heaven’s fall.”
June 5th, 2020, 12:16am, United Kingdom of ???, central capital: Edokyuuria
“Hold on!”
PHS operator Haru Shinozaki shouted as she forcefully turned the wheel, drifting through the alley.
“Just what the hell is happening!?”
Hawk Graf, the retired veteran in his casual clothes, asks as officer Albert Lionheart passes a pistol to him.
“As if we’ve got any idea.”
Albert replied while busy contacting the other field officers.
The sound of bullets hitting the armored vehicle could be heard as the chase continued.
Tatiana Graf, lost her consciousness after she was hit by a paralyzing round from the enemy. Officer Rika Sutsushi, and a good friend of the operator, sat beside Tatiana and monitored her health status.
“Have you figured out what caused her to pass out?”
Albert asked, lowering the window to return fire from the pursuers.
“The chemical found in the needle is similar to those used by the failed anti-Miraculum life contamination units.”
“Rika, I thought that project was abandoned!?”
“Either the Yotsubishi gave them the data or they had spies within the Corp.”
Shinozaki commented coldly as the vehicle returned to the main road. A curfew has been placed under the entire capital after the unfortunate events hours ago. A friend or foe filter was installed on the Athena crime prevention system. The United Royal Army moved in from Izanagi to seize control of the parliament. A state of emergency has been declared throughout the entire Republic and its overseas territories.
“Will she be ok?”
The girl in casual clothes who was sitting across from Tatiana and Sutsushi asked worriedly. She seems to be about the same age as Tatiana.
“The AMLCU failed to contain the spread of miraculum infestation in Hinomoto, I’m sure she will be fine.”
The officer replied, slightly surprised by the girl’s sudden question.
“Who is she anyway?”
Graf asks Shinozaki while he reloads his weapon.
“Not entirely sure. But Hirosei insisted on having her follow along.”
The girl in question did not reply, she stared at the red skyline of Edokyuuria as it got more distance from the vehicle.
June 4th, 2020, 6:50am, United Kingdom of Miotia-Candor, Edokyuuria, former ministry of defence
“Your move.”
Airforce’s chief executive Hana Hirosei said carefreely after she moved her chess piece.
On the other side of the table Army’s chief executive Nick Heller, was her opponent.
The two were sitting at the center of a completely empty and abandoned office of the minister of defence within the abandoned sector of the Edokyuuria Arcology.
Despite the fact there was no electricity, the two could see the chessboard surprisingly well.
“You’re going easy on me huh?”
Heller asked as he moved his piece and won. Hirosei smiled maliciously.
“What do you have in mind?”
Heller leaned back on the sofa and asked with suspicion.
“I was wondering what kind of future will you show the twin kingdoms?”
She asks him as the light of dawn shines through the broken window, causing a giant shadow of the two on the wall.
“...”
He did not reply.
“Uncertain huh? Or perhaps it won’t succeed if you let it out?”
“...”
“Well, either way, it’s time for me to depart. If you excuse me.”
Hirosei stood up and bowed at her colleague. Turning away from the table, her nobility aura could be felt just by looking at the movement of her cape.
Walking out of the abandoned sector, Hirosei makes a phone call, with the ID: V.
“It’s me. Get 053A out of the United Kingdom as soon as possible.”
June 4th, 2020, 8:00am, United Kingdom of Miotia-Candor, Kanatoro, Flugel, Airforce headquarters
In the vast desert of northern Kanatoro, a large group of trucks slowly approaches the Flugel Base. The base was not anything impressive on the surface, a runway, and a few buildings. However, it's an entirely different story underground. This is the largest airforce base within the United Kingdom, it is also the one that houses Arsenal Rays.
“Eh? A convoy of trucks?”
One of the guards asked after he saw the incoming convoy with his binoculars at the top of the control tower.
“Did our princess ordered some AAM-3 from Amason?”
The control tower asked sarcastically.
“I’m pretty sure Yotsubishi don’t sell AAM-3 on Amason, commander.”
The trucks stopped at the gate as the airforce guards slowly walked over.
“Whatsssuuuup-”
Before the guard could react, a bullet was put between his eyes. The next moment a squadron equipped with quantum stealth robes shot the other guards at the gate.
One of the soldiers had a rocket launcher aimed at the control tower.
“Sound the alert now!-”
The tower exploded, killing most of the officers.
In the burning remains of the control tower, the commander reached for the alarm.
“You’re not getting away with this… Heller.”
The alarm echoed through the colossal underground hanger as engineers dropped their tools and rushed to the shelter.
Gates to the surface slowly began to be sealed off one by one like airlocks.
The camouflaged force slowly advances into the surface base with little to no resistance.
June 4th, 2020, 12:10pm, United Kingdom of Miotia-Candor, Edokyuuria, The Citadel Square
“Is the World Union the answer? Was the World Union ever the answer? We did try to reach out to the world, and I believe that’s a good thing. Integration of Kjanu? Joining the WU? I believe that’s a grave mistake. Look at the current United Kingdom, you could hardly even call it administered at all. Do you really think the commonwealth would have approved the construction of the Midonia-Class orbital destroyers if we didn’t share the blueprints? Why did the Serpentuem Resistance War last so long? We have weapons of mass destruction, and they were in the silos rusting. If losing half of the country to Serpentuem forces isn’t enough to use them, when are we going to? The next time Serpentuem attacks we will use our nuclear arsenal.”
Saskia Piltz of the nationalist party furiously criticizes the Mashiro administration during this last debate right before the election on the 4th. The Citadel was the very top of the United Kingdom, physically and politically. In front of the capitol building, under a clear sky, the last political debate was held as seagulls gathered above.
“What good is there if we leave the World Union now? We’re a major power within the union if you haven’t realized yet. Rather than blaming it on the outside why don’t we have a look at the inside? We are one of the most technologically advanced nation, and yet we don’t utilize them in defence. Instead what the heck did we use these tech for? Entertainment!? Anime? We’ve been using the same infantry equipment for the past 3 decades.”
Nicola Lafrenz of the United Soicalist Party replied at Saskia Piltz’s comment.
“What? Are you going to take away the economic freedom of those industries? Why is war the first thing that comes to your tiny brains whenever we have a debate? Anyway, I’d agree that the integration of Kjanu is not well administered, it is necessary to bring the three-nation closer. If you look at the situation currently, we are only helplessly watching kjanu in chaos.”
Liberal Democratic Party’s Nagase Ryu added calmly, confident in her potential voters.
“Well, if they would allow the URF to head over there in the first place, there wouldn’t be such chaos. Additionally, have you all forgotten to demand reparation from those aliens? You actually expect us to sit here and do nothing while these war criminal Valassari or whatever they call themselves from other nations take our jobs? This is ridiculous, humans must always come first.”
Else Schnorr of the Neo-fascist party added.
“You know it would be nice if we just put the Imperatrix back in power-”
Morita Takejiro immediately got backslash from all parties.
“Ahem.
PRAISE BE OUR ETERNAL GODDESS IRENE.”
Stella Inder shouted through the microphone.
The stage was just a few steps away. Head of state Mashiro Fuyuki hesitated, still thinking about Tatiana’s memory loss and what Alfred Heller said to her back at the hospital. Yotsubishi 1st branch’s secret connection with the Army? Just what were they planning? The plane that crashed in Mendenwall back in december, was that Yotsubishi doing… or...
“What are you waiting for?”
Vice-GC Victoria Achenbach of the Constitutional Imperial Rule Party asked from behind. Kindly smiled at her.
“...”
“No one’s first job is the head of state. However, do not let those emotions get to you.”
Mashiro took a moment to organize her thoughts and nodded as her confidence returned.
However, Victoria did not come out with her.
Putting away her notes, she took a long look at the old bookmark. It was a good luck charm given by Laruna Kracht, a former classmate of hers. It was a memorial she received before her last performance as one of Celestial 5’s members, twelve years ago, on the exact same day as today.
Thought to be a change in the event script, Mashiro continues her way to the stage.
The crowd slowly returns to silence as the Imperatix turns her attention to the entrance of the stage,
The PHS in the back stage and at the windows of the parliament building are constantly searching for threats as tension grows in the square.
“Now it has truly saddened me that the invasion of Fronteran-Mendenwall was executed with a 88% vote within the parliament weeks ago.
Excuse me.
We’ve been through a lot for the past year, haven't we? Serpentuem declared war on us, some aliens, Valarssari declared war on us. Now? We’re allies, friends. We joined the World Union. Further uniting the world. We even sent a diplomat to Jezabelstien and he did come back. The Hinomoto desert…. Is no longer a desert. Look at that massive organic structure at the horizon. We did have teardrop plague, in the end, our cooperation with Serpentuem developed a cure from the particles of its pollen.
I’ve been elected because I was a meme. Yes. Laugh.
Throughout my past term, I have noticed even after we’ve moved to democracy, we’re still chained. Culturally chained, yes. Not by authoritarianism not by foreign powers, definitely not by money.
Our twin kingdoms are cursed and chained by hate since the dawn of time.
For 900 years we fought each other, chained to fight until the last standing, weren’t we pathetic? However, we did rise from those feelings of hate. We did break these chains.
And we can certainly do it again.
It’s all pain, sweat, tears, and blood. However, no revenge should govern our fate.
I’m talking to all of you, candidates.”
She paused to look at the other candidates.
“All within the state, nothing outside, nothing against the state?
We're a superpower at the world stage, think about the effects of our decision on the people of the world, damn it.
Focusing on rebuilding the United Kingdom and its relations to the FTF after the four major conflicts from 2018 to 2020 is the main goal of the Moeist Democratic Union of Cando-”
As the sun rises from the Eastern sea, casting the Miotian skies with a brilliant red glimmer, the subtle yet present sounds of slicing rotors can be vaguely heard from an unknown source. No shadows are present to expose its identity, however; a slight distortion in the morning sky can still be observed moving across the horizon towards the United Kingdom. It is as if light itself is being manipulated to slide off the sleek exterior of the unknown source by some sort of meta-material, creating a sort of optical camouflage as the foreign object continues its course.
"Thirty minutes till we arrive in the target city." announced the pilot of the Freysil.
Two unknown voices can then be heard from the back having a heated argument. One voice seemingly stemming from a young adolescence figure and the other from an older foreigner both wearing a sparrow insignia on their lapel.
"You sure we should be flying within the vicinities of the RIAS space elevator?"
"What? Would you rather fly over the chaotic zkylinez of Kjanu? A humanoid figure can be seen shimmering in and out of sight, his or her figure seemingly invisible as their body drifts in and out of view like a distortion created from heat. The figure moves quickly into position unnoticed via sight or sound, this thanks to Mashiro's loud speech being projected all throughout the square, even stress scanners from the ATHENA system have failed to determine the Health data of this unknown figure, making it no exaggeration to call him or her a living ghost. As the thunderous speech goes on, the figure can be seen crouching behind an empty row and... laughing? No, perhaps withering in pure utter rage... Or perhaps, maybe even been both, it is quite hard to tell with the figure seemingly transparent with light sliding off the cloak which fully covers the figure. Suddenly, deep breathes can be heard from the figure as he or she readies and assembles a weapon of unknown calibre hidden under the cloak, however; the sound of which is all still being masked by the raging speech. After attaching the scope, the tip of the barrel can be visibly observed as it leaves the protection of the cloak pointing steadily and directly at Mashiro's head before shouting his or her first words since entering the Citadel.
"1984 never forget!"
As the phrase rang out, echoing through the square, soundly revealing the general position of the unknown figure; another deep breath can be heard and then...
Both of these two figures seems to be wearing an odd sparrow insignia, this fashion choice was seemingly reflected in some of the audience within the crowd. As time ticks on a voice can be heard.
"Are the otherz ready for extraction? It iz almozt time... good lord, why the hell did they chooze to hozt thiz outdoorz during zummer?! The temperature iz terrible and itz like playing minezweeper when choozing a zeat with all theze zeagullz flying around." The focused individual asked.
'BOOM BOOM BWAM CLACK'
An explosion, born completely out of nowhere, engulfed the podium holding the Imperatrix and her group, killing them instantly as rubble tumbled throughout the stage like the drumming of a percussion instrument.
'BANG'
The sound of a non-silenced rifle can be heard bouncing throughout the sqaure, acting as the chorus to the unexpected tune of the explosion, harmonizing in an oddly horrifying and chaotic orchestration. However, a slight tune feels off and uncoordinated as the unexpected explosion and the scale of the blast ended up affecting the unknown figure's aim, causing him or her to miss Mashiro's head but instead, land a shot around the appendix area.
'THUMP'
The sound echoed as the chaotic orchestra draws its last chord. The sound, resulting from a body of a once prominent leader of an up and coming super power finally collapsing to the dark pressures that have haunted her for ages, spells the end of pacifist rule and bringing upon a new chapter for the United Kingdom and its subject. A new season, per se, of never ending hate.
As the conductor lays down his baton, cheers, caremes, and claps replaced by jeers, screams, and collapse. The unknown figure can be seen disassembling his gun before making his escape away from the panicked horde, hidden by his cloak marked with the word Cersarski, and vanished into the afternoon light.
Rather than an actual office, it’s just a cheap apartment rent by the company.
Journalist Kana Ichihara walks through the cramped hallway to get her way to the kitchen. The new office was still filled with boxes and unpacked equipment. Blaney Mikel, a Serpentuem immigrant who was hired by the company a month ago, was assigned here. There were only the two of them. Blaney does most of the unpacking and cleaning most of the time if not all of the time.
Blaney is usually seen at the lobby area where he sets up the equipment provided by the headquarters. However today was different.
Filling a few more named cups of coffee and placing them on the table with empty seats.
“Is there something wrong?”
Kana asked through the kitchen, where he saw Blaney poke his head out of the window.
“There’s something going on up there, Kana.”
“The debate?”
“Well, technically yes… but I don’t think it is simply just that.”
Black smoke could be seen rising at the top of the Edokyuuria arcology, the capitol building.
“I can’t believe you finished eating your 3rd big wac, Tatiana.”
“Is it wrong to do so, father?”
“It’s fine.”
Retired veteran Graf Hawk and his adoptive daughter Tatiana Hawk are currently having lunch unaware of the events that happened minutes ago. Tatiana was discharged from hospital a month ago. She suffered from the loss of memory after a certain event happened in Hong Kong. Although it is probably better this way, which allowed her to live a normal life.
She somehow developed an introverted personality. Which was quite troublesome when they were applying for schools.
At the corner of the restaurant, Graf has taken notice of a person dressed in a blacksuit looking at them the whole time. It was strange to see someone dressed so formal to be in a fast food restaurant in the first place, it just stands out.
Graf told Tatiana he was going to the washroom, and walked toward the man in the suit looking at them.
“Do I know you, sir?”
Graf asked with suspicion. Instead of replying, the man just handed him a note with the seal of the Hirosei clan, the Voluntas corporation, and lastly, a seal of an owl.
“Who-”
Before Graf could finish his sentence, the screen on the television switched to emergency broadcast.
“Take her with you, and go.”
The man in suit gave Graf a pistol only moments before a group of hooded individuals stormed the fast food restaurant.
A few of the customers who turned out to be undercover agents of the CIA started to exchange fire with the armed group as Graf ran to grab Tatiana’s hand. It was cold, unlike her previous self, she was in shock and scared.
They quickly retreated to the kitchen as the sound of ATHENA stress level contamination alarm rings in the area.
“You got a call, father.”
Tatiana who had his phone in her hand showed Graf the incoming call from officer Lionheart.
“Huh?”
Graf picked up the phone despite the gun fire outside.
“Where? Minervaindexca? Now?”
The Democratic Socialist State of Kjanu
The shining grey walls of Huklan were brightly lit by the fluorescent lights above. They were largely empty following the Kjanuan government’s declaration of order days prior. As President Karugama had left the complex as the National Council moved to Neo Neo Neo Jhanthu, the only people left in the large grey halls of the sprawling labyrinth of Huklan were the scientists of the National Reclamation Project. Inside the headquarters of the Project, the scientists worked furiously, chattering back and forth between each other. Sung-min sat back in her chair and stretched back, looking up at the dull ceiling above before speaking to her neighbor. “So Wei, has the Committee of Public Information put out a story on Kin yet?”
The man responded with neglect, not even looking away from his computer. “I read in the Times that a meteor struck the city, so it looks like they had one prepped for this long before we did.”
Sung-min laughed. “I should’ve expected those jittery fools to write something like that, I wonder how they will explain a meteor not being picked up by any telescope.” Sung-min turned her attention from the roof to the empty chair at the back of the room. “Hey Wei, has the Director shown up at all today?”
“He got called to the National Council this morning.” The man said dryly.
I wonder why that is, I thought we had already got approval for everything.”
Wei turned to Sung-min. “You are a scientist, correct?”
“Yeah, I got a degree in-”
“Ok, you clearly have the ability to ask questions perfected, now work on the second skill of a scientist, observing.” Wei said directly to Sung-min, and then returned to his work in silence.
“Jerk.” Sung-min rolled her eyes and looked up at the ceiling.
The doors at the back of the room opened and the bright light from the hall was cast into the room, through the light came Shimada Hirohisa. The scientists in the room turned and faced the director as he came and sat down above them, silent as they waited for a response from the man. Moments passed before Shimada spoke in a dull voice, carrying only a sliver of defeat. “The National Council has deemed military action in Frontera and reports of political violence in Edokyuuria as a threat to the Miotian-Candorian ability to protect Kjanu and the UK, and as such they have designated the National Reclamation Project as the sole way to protect of Kjanu. We have been ordered to create two new Units following the designs of prototype #4 and prototype #17.”
A minute passed and there was no response from the crowd, few even moved from their position. Eventually Min-ji spoke up. “Sir, repairs on Unit-1 were just completed, we don’t have the materials necessary for a reactor engine for two more Units. Can’t Unit-1 serve Kjanu fine by itself?”
Shimada responded dismissively, “The rubble from Kin has been found to contain the necessary materials, likely a response from the weapon. It is being brought to Huklan-2 to construct two more engines. We do not choose what is necessary to protect Kjanu and we will be building Units 2 and 3.”
With that, the scientists returned to their computers and began work on the new weapons.
The Etsuyoki Times
The Kjanuan National Council has returned early from it's recess following the sudden meteorite impact on Kin. The meteor that destroyed the city had previously been undetected by Kjanuan astronomers and impacted the downtown area of Kin two weeks ago. The Government had been in a period of recess and has since restarted sessions. President Karugama has announced a multi-trillion Rias reconstruction plan to rebuild the city that has garnered support from the KSP and DSPK, and has responded to the military action undertaken by the United Kingdom, saying "While the use of military force in Frontera is a regrettable act to many Kjanuans, we stand with our fellow states in the UK and will be helping all we can following the violence that has occurred in Edokyuuria. Kjanu disagrees with the mobilization of armed forces, but it is not our place to respond. We may be split by old nationalities, but we all stand together united as one."
Hall of Irene, Atop of the Hall...
The long beard bothered Perry, gazing down at his reflection in the small mirror as he vainly tried to make himself look less haggard while the interior of the enormous aerostat shifted suddenly and violently.
By the time the heavy cargo ramp slid open with a pressurized hiss, he had resigned to appearance and the inevitable mockery that the admiral was likely to pile upon him... with a dutiful poise he released his restraints and marched out to the roof of the indomitable hall.
Black dress and petticoat billowing in the wind, engines of the Empress of Hatred still burning loudly to keep the winds from pulling the vessel free from its moorings, Perry was quite sure there was some mild amusement from the stationed guards but embraced it with prideful march down the metal grate stairs and to the small concrete protrusion that housed the elevators.
Motioning down to the operator while massaging his ears, musing to himself "Should of asked those thanedom boys if they had a razor... oh well." while the incredibly bored young woman seemed utterly disinterested.
Eventually, the doors opened up to the marble-lined hall, the decadent scarlet tapestries slung above hand-crafted wooden furniture, all leading to the pair of imposing doors before the, somewhat pretentiously named to Perry, chamber of rule...
Brushing his beard back, straightening the dress out finally pushing open the doors to be greeted by the sight of a dozen scandalously dressed women surrounding a couch as the decadently overdressed Irene ate from a small bowl of fruit.
Admiral Natiliae sat at the table with a pile of photographs being perused, she looked up at Perry and her tired, frustrated face illuminated in a lough uproar; "Where in the nine hells have you been?" she shouted, following with a loudly inquisitorial; "Rest of the damn world is losing its mind and you're... where were you?"
"Vacation in the finest facilities the SDII could afford..." he replied, pulling out a seat and lazing across it with crossed legs, "You look like hell yourself, what's the picture?"
The admiral leaned her chair back, replying with an exasperated sigh; "Up north seems to be preparing for the annual civil war while extremists seem to be getting increasingly well armed."
"Seems a bit outside your..." came Perry's curious response, cut short as he looked about the room; "Where's Lia at?"
Natiliae's response was a blunt, "Seance."
"And Serena?"
"Off doing whatever it is she does in Aleria..."
"Ralph?"
"I shot him."
The procession of responses left Perry scratching the back of his head, "So it's... just you and me on deck for this huh?" he concluded, "Well that's... I was hoping to get home for a bit."
Natiliae met Perry's gaze before closing up one of the many folders scattered in front of her, "Look I've been holding the fort for months now, take a few days, set things straight with Matt and just..." her voice losing much of its strength towards the end, "Don't get yourself killed alright?... the JPD is going to be needed in all forms as this kicks off."
Perry smiled softly, "I didn't plan on the vacation but..." he replied as he stood up, offering a wave in the direction of the distracted Irene; "Same goes back to you, admiral... I'll keep it short."
The scarred admiral waved him off as she rose to her feet, "Alright get going; I've got like six thousand forms to go through and a million reports about a town exploding."
"Town exploding?" a curious voice interjected, followed by the clattering of a metal spoon on glass as the dark haired woman looked over the back of the dark crimson couch, "When was this?"
Perry offered the woman a parting wave as he walked back down the hall towards the elevator, calling back with a, "I'll see you around, Irene."
Irene waved in return before facing the admiral, "Oh... when did he get back Nattie?"
"Just then..."
"Does that mean Ralph is going to turn up again soon?"
Natiliae's expression immediately soured, "Oh I certainly hope not..."
Venturer II, Naheed
The planet loomed ahead. Nearly as wide as Utopia, and rather less explored. This was the last real phase of the mission- the first flyby had been distant, allowing it to serve as an opportunity for mapping. This one was the real deal- all five probes destined for the world the Meridites called Naheed would enter the atmosphere now, and the three relays orbiting the planet would allow for continued data recovery.
But that didn't really matter to the crew. Sure, that was what they were here for... but the yellow-green globe was beautiful. Layers on layers of clouds, an occasional might-be-imagined glimpse at the surface far below, perhaps even a glint from one of the several satellites in orbit. They were lucky the Venturer-II had been given a little windowed dome to look through on the last refit.
Technological Breakthroughs
Exoskeleton Race
The EPA and EPS
Currently a new standard has been set for Exoskeletal construction. The EPA, or Exoskeletal Powered Amor, is a military variant of this basic structure, as it seems to have more systems for the wearer and more plating to protect the soldiers body. While the EPS, or Exoskeletal Powered Suit, has a more civil and Industrial style to it, it holds a lot of machinery, systems, and less plating, and also comes with an in built helmet.
Currently three companies are in the Dace to develope the best and latest Exoskeleton's: Arc Industries, Sparrowhawk Inc., and Blue Star Corp. And they are all confident in their designs, all coming to the table with something unique.
Arc Industries has focused on developing Industrial and Civil Exoskeletons, their designs are either more sleek and try to form with the body, and it mainly focuses of enhancing the strength, speed, and jump of the wearer. Currently it has a built in helmet for worker protection, body, arm, and leg protection, with internal systems under the plating to help with movement. Beneath it all is a undersuit that helps with temperature regulation. It is also using a prototype "Shielding" technology which is supposed to protect the wearer from debris and other physical dangers.
Sparrowhawk Inc. has decided to continue with their legacy of developing much of the Electran Armed Forces with weapons and equipment. Most notable being the widely used Sparrowhawk VTOL chopper. Now with their design they have gone in a lot more bulky path, large amounts of armor, a specially designed undersuit meant to assist in joint-body protection. And a helmet covering the head, using external camera's for sight. Not only this its built in with a temperature regulation system, and along with their sight being with cameras, the screen they see through is also a computer they can detect heat signatures, allowing the wearer to have a sort of Live Radar to detect enemies. Also to add to its list of abilities, Sparrowhawk corp has also given the mech a VTOL ability, adding to it's size and bulk.
Blue Star Corp. has decided to go all out with their design, taking the EPA and changing it drastically. Now it fits more like regular armor, but underneath is an assortment of machinery that enhances the speed, strength, agility, and other things of the wearer, they have a specially designed helmet that uses the Famous HUD system, using similar technology that Sparrowhawk Inc. is using in there design there id a radar dish, but supposedly it has a way to tell if someone is a friend or foe. Along with this it also apparently has an accurate crosshair system in the HUD, which is supposed to show where the soldier is aiming their weapon while their not specifically aiming. Although they have had to make an weapon attachment for this to work.
Other than this wearers of the armor has shown to have great agility, and in the hands of skilled soldiers, there are videos of them jumping around the simulated environment, doing long wall runs, and more stuff that should only come from video games.
Some believe that Arc Industries is late to the party for military EPA, but they have proven many times that they are capable of creating things quickly and effectively. So only time will tell.
EIAWS
EIAWS, or the Exoskeleton Interchangeable Arm Weapons System, has been developed by the government funded: Castle Arms. They have created what appears to be a weapon system that will be used in military EPA's. It is planned that the device will be built onto the arm part of the Exoskeleton, along with braces on the shoulder to prevent pain and injuries, and different weapons can be attached to said device.
Currently two weapons have been ceated. They Heavy Kinetic Gun (.50 Cal on Steroids), which fires a large and powerful round at extremely high speeds, and the Thundershock Cannon (Grenade launcher that shoots in a straight line). It is predicted that the current companies in the race, and future companies and government organizations (along with the military and navy) will also begin to develop weapons and other devices for the EPA and EPS.
The God Project
The God Project has been announced the the public. A complete government project kept in the dark from the populace for years now comes to light, showing off their work. The God Mech, 20 feet tall, armed with a massive double barrel cannon, shoulder missile pods, and other tools and weapons. The information told goes as follows "Right now the God Mechs are planned to be used by military aid groups, deployed here at home and sometimes in other nations. The weaponized Gods are to be going through even more test than the Aid Gods, and once it is fully developed a series of of missions will be crested for testing."
Many are wondering what this could mean for the future, as now the civilian populace and the military are beginning to have access to advance mechanical equipment that could both lead to a bright or bloody future. Only time will tell.
'For I fear the waters calm only hides the dark vine that will strangle life from this world... I must return, I am the only light.'
Bahram, Object Crash Site
Marie could feel the sandy winds, the aggressive chill and shredding particles seeping through the armoured belly of the heavy truck as it struggled to make its way over the ridge of the new valley, spilling over the side and dropping down towards the colossal carcass of misshapen metals, sickly black smoke and viscous fluids seeping from its surface.
---
Onboard the Fury, Utopian Orbit
Lily awoke to the sound of her heart throbbing in her ears, body coated in a cold anxious sweat that seemed to hang to her skin as her aching arms pushed her up, the room was dark... save for the flickering red light spilling from a battery of monitors sat atop a variety of dark metal boxes holding instruments of unknown purpose.
Her senses seemed... dulled, a constricting pale blue layer clanged to her skin, feeling like a drenched soggy fabric while its exterior seemed... waxy, rubbery... pitted with spots where it had obviously been punctured and sealed again, wires and tubing clinging ever so lightly, displaced by a quick brush of her fingers.
The girl sat upon the bed as things quickly drew into focus, eyes adjusting to the minimal light, making out the details of the coated room, piping fed a cool breeze through while a translucent flap remained sealed by a heavy looking binding.
An ache rolled across Lily's leg as the waking world melded with the vivid dream, the room seemed to fade as she sat in the void... exposed, vulnerable, alone... the distant clicks and hisses of otherworldly plants echoing in the distance, her eyes looking upon the source and seeing a waving, consuming tendril that felt distant but so very close.
Reality reasserted itself as a person in full-concealing suit stepped through the plastic flaps and sealed it behind them, masked eyes falling upon the girl as the figure froze in place.
"I must bring the light..."
---
Bahram, Crash Site Exterior
The ruckus of power tools and generators overpowered the distant winds, two-dozen workers in hazard-painted bulky suits stomping about on the disfigured metal as they slowly cut inside, Marie remained by the truck as she stared up at the imposing shadowy wreck, her thoughts quickly crossed to feeding her smoking habit as she quietly cursed her own constricting protection.
A sharp crash of metal against metal informed her it was time to move before the shouts echoed through the radios, "Alright salvage team... we got a stable entrance, no clue what deck it's on so play it by ear and keep it safe."
"I'll keep that in mind..." Marie replied in her thick velvety voice, following with: "Okay boys and girls, lets get this thing and go home." as she reached in the back of the truck and dragged her pistol from the seat, being sure to keep the ornately detailed handle out of sight as she prepared and pulled on a belt of rope and tools, taking a moment to check the lights on her dark painted suit before stomping off towards the hole cut in the side of the behemoth, dark fluids splashing against her feet as she entered.
"Tell my team to meet me ahead, I'm gonna scope out what I can..." she stated before flicking her radio off, proceeding down the dark metal shaft, being sure to step clearly across the ladder rungs jutting from the floor.
The metal within had seen better days, covered with scattered shards of glass and what appeared to be a horrid mix of coolants and dried blood that stuck to the exterior of her suit, marking the corridor with obvious steps until she arrived at a split in the path.
Markings on the wall seemed orientated at odds with Marie's position, the vessel indeed came down upon a rough angle, leaving her standing on what she thought was a wall... her thoughts on the orientation were cut short as a shout sounded out from behind her, "OI... MARY." came the mature masculine voice, "You planning on getting lost?"
Marie didn't reply as she ignited a chemical flare from her belt and tossed it down the off-axis corridor, letting it clunk against the distant metal before finally turning about to face the man.
"Yeah it looks like it took a tumble end over end as it came in, split the top and the bottom off... core seems to be the only thing that came down intact." she informed him, adding a curt "And it's Marie, Matt."
He stared down the illuminated hole, replying with an incredulous; "What you figure that out just from there?"
Marie's own gaze had shifted upwards, noticing the access ladders as she shuffled along the edge to reach them, "Some of us read the schematics."
"Surprised you could make any sense of them, blacked out all to heck for me..." Matt responded, taking hold of the back of Marie's suit; "So the core's like a hundred meters up that way?"
Speaking through gritted teeth as she hoisted herself up the first rung, "I'm betting fifty or so, there's not much left of this."
"If it's an inch more than fifty you owe me a drink." Matt replied, taking out a flashlight to illuminate Marie's long climb.
---
Back upon the Fury
Lily plucked the wires and tubes from her suit as the suited figure shouted through their mask, "She's UP... what the hell do I do?" down the corridor before ducking out through the flap and binding it shut, running quickly out of sight.
With no more distractions jutting from her body, she stood up upon her shaking feet, reaching out at the entrance to the sealed up tent with her covered hand... the plastics quickly bent and unwound, ripping asunder to leave the girl with an opening out to the dark metal corridors.
Her legs nearly gave out with each torturous step, her body feeling like a crushing weight but she persisted forwards, step after step...
---
Within the wreckage
Rung after rung, Marie pulled herself along, lungs feeling tortured with her deep laboured breathing as her back ached with the weight of her suit and equipment, ceiling out a sarcastic: "Definitely feels more than fifty..." as she swung her arm over the edge, stepping up the final few rungs and sitting upon what was once a wall.
"Yeah." Echoed Matt's response, "You got that winch?"
"Give me a moment, this suit weighs a ton." She shouted back, loosening the gear from her belt, "I think we'll need another two to haul it down safe, maybe more."
"See how many anchor points there are, we'll put as many as we can down." Matt replied from down below, "I'll get the rest sent in."
Marie finally shifted to her feet, slinging a piece of steel rope about the top run of the ladder before shouting back, "Take your time... I'm gonna go look about."
Shattered monitors and flecks of blood covered the ground about her feet, bodies contorted into inhuman shapes rested in a rough pile against the end of the corridor, leaving Marie grateful that her suit kept the smell out.
One of the half-opened doors led to a small laboratory, a quick glance within revealed a similar sight to outside, samples and chemicals spilled in a violent messy display over old corpses that had not started to rot, feeling she'd find more of the same with further venturing, Marie turned about and stomped back to the shaft, pulling out pulleys and more steel wire ropes from the mess of bulky pockets upon her belt, assembling a small hoisting frame to help navigate the wreck further.
---
Panic begins to spread in the belly of the Fury
The metal was cold to the touch, even through the thick confining suit, the chills did little to sway the slow but stable progress Lily was making, a little more settled in her stride as she followed the helpful navigation markers along the dark corridors.
Mouth a slight agape as she breathed softly, resting a hand upon the wall to steady herself further before the sudden surge of heavy boots started to echo all around her... it didn't take long for the lines of uniformed men and women to close in, pressurized rifles quickly aimed down at the girl as a small group of people in concealing white suits broke through the ranks, cautiously approaching Lily with thier arms raised; "Return to your bed..." one stated calmly in a warm voice, "It's a bit early for you to be awake."
A warm hand fell upon Lily's shoulder, the invitation of rest felt so inviting... but her purpose, her reason... she shook her head, speaking timidly in a broken soft tone, "The... light." and gently pushing the white-suited man away, slamming him right into the metal wall where he screamed in pain.
First one dart, then another, a series of heavy hisses sounded as the pneumatic rifles discharged the paralytic laden payloads towards the girl, but they all seemed to bend away as she walked forwards, repeating; "The light..." as almost immediately the lines of solders scattered, retreating quickly from her path.
The Wreckage
High Utopian Orbit, Electro Station
Repair Team POV
A small team of astronauts floated in the void of space, using powered screwdrivers to repair the damaged side of the main part of the station, a recent meteor shower had happened and damaged the side of the station, so to avoid having to request for a new set of supplies, the commander has them put a metallic band aid on the side of the station.
Astronaut 1: "Everything going well over there?" He says this, wearing the new ASOS astronaut suit. On his arm there were 3 Blue stripes lined in gold, signifying commander.
Astronaut 2: "Seems to be doing well Commander. Just need to get a few more screws in and we'll be golden." She says this while working with a power drill, her suit had an Orange stripe, meaning Engineer. Besides her two others standing nearby, a single black stripe on their arm "Private" rank.
Above them was two other astronauts. One of them had a purple Stirp with a triangular beaker symbol, and was working on some internal systems while it was connected to a pad, while the second was watching the whole process while doing a flip from time to time. On his arm two Silver strips with crossed wings under them, signifying Pilot.
Astronaut 3: "Rodriguez, can you please take this more seriously?" The man says in a accented voice, he was irritable with the pilots behavior. "We need to get these systems back online before the repairs are finished!"
Rodriguez: "Well sorry I'm just taking in the sights and taking full advantage of space! It's not everyday you get you come out here."
Astronaut 3: "Actually, I do, and you get use to it." He gestures around. "Is an endless void with small lights and the occasional colors. Not easy to get attached."
Rodriguez: "Alright Dr. Pessimist."
Astronaut 1: "Come on Rodriguez, the sooner we finish this job the better. I have a bad feeling about something."
Astronaut 5: "Oh here we go." There was a deep male voice, he wore what seemed to be a more sleek version of the ASOS, on his arm was the green symbol of Special Forces.
Below him was two other workers, both female, one was applying some bolts to the station while nearby the other was decked in ASHOS, currently carrying most of the tools.
Astronaut 6: "Don't hate on the Captain's superstition. He hasn't been wrong before." She says this, all knowing it true, as he was the one who ordered his team inside the station before the meteor shower could do any harm to them.
Astronaut 7: "Yeah well that might be true, there's no use in announcing it almost every hour." She says this walking up the side of the station to hand her companion some more tools, her strong magnetic clamps keeping her attached.
Their leader shakes his head at their banter but smiled, as this would be his last mission before his retirement. He looked out into the expanse, knowing internally he was going to miss the view of the stars, but at least he could take it in here and now. Plus, he had children back home waiting for him, he couldn't stay away for this long. That's when Rodriguez noticed something in the void, a form or structure drifting slowly past the station, he decided to notify his leader.
Rodriguez: "Sir there something out there. Tell me you see it too." His team all looked out and after a second they could make out the drifting object.
Astronaut 1: "Whatever it is it's not one of ours, get back inside the station. I'll report to the General."
And with this order, the crew entered the station, the Drifter continued to slowly move. Once inside the airlock and oxygen filled the room, they all took of their helmets, all of varying ages. 4 men 3 women.
Afterwards they entered into the busy hallways of Electro Station, astronauts, soldiers, scientists, and more floated through the halls to carry out their task. While the rest of the crew went to take off their suits, their Captain headed to the command center of the station. Where the General was giving overseeing the Ascension Project.
General: "I want resources to be diverted to finishing necessary systems, also the engines we need great an updated version of does to to advancements in technology. I want information of the VTOL process." He then stops as he sees the Captain approach him, the two exchange salutes before speaking. "Captain, I hope the repair went well?"
Captain: "Yes sir, the outside armor has been patched up, internal systems will be in working order in a few minutes."
General: "Good, anything else?'
Captain: "Yes, while we was out there, we noticed something drifting in the distance. We believe it's a Wreckage of a ship or station, to big for a satellite or probe." The General considers the mans words, some of the other workers and operators nearby looked over. After some thinking he responded.
General: "This is concerning news. Whatever is out there is a potential threat to this station, the fleet, and everyone here. We'll send a team."
Captain: "How about mine, we are still ready to head out."
General: "You looking to add another mission to your belt before retirement Captain?" He says with smirk.
Captain: "Maybe. I'll get my team ready, if you choose us."
General: "You already know the answer." And with a nod the Captain walked out of the Command Center, and went off to collect his crew, the General looked out to space wondering what will happen next.
Abdication
With the recent attack on Thanedom soil and the death of Vladimir being revealed to the public, as well as the injuries sustained by High Thane Jon the Third, hes has decided to abdicate his throne. Such a thing is seen as honorable by many in the Thanedom, proof he is willing to give someone stronger a chance. He also has made it known a Kostov will not be replacing him, allowing the parliament to vote in a new clan for the first time in decades. With these news, the Thanedom has entered a period of isolation from the rest of the world, in hopes of keeping their culture intact as they decide whats best for them and not whats best for their allies. During this small trek of isolation, all representatives have been sent to their home country and all political figures are to remain in the Thanedom, so votes remain entirely for the Thanedom's betterment.
The mission was really starting now. The orange world loomed ahead, its sands shining beneath the thin atmosphere. Their hydrolox rockets would kick in any second now to begin braking for orbit, and then would come the work- making sure the station's tanks were clean, setting up the furniture, and assembling an entire damn centrifuge. In the meantime, though... the planet was beautiful. A light shone near it- maybe a ship from some other nation, burning into orbit as well? They probably would never know. Whatever.
The Holy Empire of Kkhano
Kkhano wrote:July 12th, 1971: somewhere in the far north of Dissopoloforia. A man wearing a long gown and a large crown on his head is sitting down in a chair, with a small boy in his lap. Despite the age difference, they have some similar facial features, such as their jet black hair, similarly dark eyes, and pale, almost ghost-like skin tone. The two are sitting in a tent on the top of a hill, the older man overlooking soldiers doing drill practice in the fields below while the little boy laughs hysterically at something his father just told him.
“Ahaha! You’re so funny daddy, tell me another story!” At this request, the man stroked his beard in thought for a moment.
“Well... what story do you want to hear?”
“Hmmm... how about the story about home?”
“Ah, that’s a good one, now let me remember...”
“Many years ago, in 1636, four men in the northern regions of Hungary were not happy with the current state of the Svarizian government they were living under; so they hopped on some boats and escaped to a place far to the south. They called this place Kkhano - the Svarizian word for scales, like balance, and there they set about creating a far better place than the one the had come from. Unfortunately, these four men soon fell out due to their different ideals, but one - our ancestor, Terrasov Mítlis - outsmarted them all, and he restored balance to Kkhano. After this, the Mítlis family continues to rule the region, even through a brief occupation by the Kingdom of Hungary; and as Mítlis had always done, it was Kkhano’s duty to maintain the balance in the region, whatever state it may be in. However as the rulers of Kkhano in the 1800s looked out at the world, they realised that not just northern Wasaru was out of balance, but the whole world was: troubles, torture, and terror wrecked every corner of the globe; and we wouldn’t stand for it. Kkhano set out to takeover as many places as they could to rectify the wrongs of every other nation: however they couldn’t see what we could and around a century later, the nations who hadn’t been cured of their wrongdoings formed a coalition and drove us away, putting the world back where it was before. We would not bow down to this however, and we ran away first to Jadefall, then to northern Dissopoloforia to hide from the rest of the world, so they wouldn’t attempt to crush us before we could fix them again. As we left Jadefall, we took some of their best soldiers as a... parting gift, and they were made to have families that too would grow up to be soldiers: we gave these people a home they wouldn’t have otherwise, in return for them loyally serving in the new Kkhanoese army as born and bred soldiers. And that:” he pauses to tap his child on the nose, who up until this point has been staring at him in admiration “is the story of our home”
“Wooooow... but, why are we in charge?”
“Ah, you see, that’s something Mítlis had that everyone forgets about - or chooses to ignore, perhaps. Sure, he was smart and devious and a brilliant strategist; but he had a more... unorthodox power. He could use the energy from specific, unknown power sources to convert energy from his mind into different kinds of what would normally be referred to as spells, but it would be more accurate to call them mind-beams: or scientifically, Zodiac Energy. The Mítlis family has this power, up until the war of the Third Coalition, when the object used to control it was stolen from us by the king of Svalbard, Yggdrasil Hakoen. For our family to regain this power, we must regain this item - and reopen the sources of power for this energy, which have been closed for over a century now out of fear”
“Amazing... I’m gonna do that dad, I’m gonna restore Kkhano and our own power!”
“Hehehe, I’m sure you would, if I didn’t do it first ahahahaha!”
“Ahahahahahahaha...”
Present day, almost the exact same location, in a similar tent
“Hah... hmm, perhaps that day may actually come sooner than we thought” A now middle aged man was sitting in a makeshift ‘throne’ overlooking the same hill he had been almost 50 years ago; with a distinct lack of his father’s lap to sit on. He was now sat tightly in the chair, gripping viciously on the arm rests. He sensed something... many things, actually. A conflict between some extraterrestrial powers, millions of voices crying out for help suddenly being cut short, people of power feeling insecure and unprepared... all this and more told him one thing: “The world’s balance is falling apart, our time to rise again will soon be here” Was what he said to... absolutely no one, because he was sitting in a private tent on top of a hill where no one else could possibly here him. Realising this, he scoffed at himself. “Well, I certainly do a good job at sounding melodramatic, should be good at scaring other people then.”
“Anyway:” He said while getting up, picking up some kind of radio transmitter in the process “if that’s the case then I should probably start acting on that intelligence our spies have brought us for the past, what, 80 years? Yeah, should be good. Ah good, she picked up”
On the other side of the transmitter, an exceedingly tall woman with long blond hair picked up on the other end of the line. Her enormous black overcoat with a Kkhanoese scale pinned on to the upper left corner signified her as a commanding officer - and a high ranked one at that. When she picked up the transmission, her voice had a slight hint of annoyance in it, and an even greater hint of malevolence
“Who is it? it better be good because you disrupted the 10th division’s training session.”
“Settle down there Lily, we don’t all like high strung ladies you know?”
“Ugh, if this is another prank call Ladislaus, there’ll be hell to pay”
“Oh no, quite the opposite in fact, this is a call of utmost importance!”
“Then what’s it about?”
“I’ve decided to put you in charge!”
“...this is a prank call isn’t it?”
“No no, I mean it! Well, it won’t be a permanent arrangement, let’s just say I’m taking a... vacation... somewhere, the details aren’t important. Anyway, I need someone to run things while I’m not here; and you know you, you’re strict, efficient, scary, tall, loyal to the cause, all the good things, so I thought who better to be temporary first in command than you?”
“Well... if you say so then, I’ll get to it”
“Excellent! You do that, I’ll do whatever I’m doing, and you’ll wait for me to come back: all’s good!”
At that, both parties turned of their transmitters and went back to what they were doing: Lily returned to drilling, whilst Ladislaus packed for his trip, then went to his private helicopter
As he stepped inside, the pilot leaned back and asked him an obvious question:
“Where to, boss?”
“Svalbard; go over the north side, there’s a smaller military presence there and it’s got want we want”
“I’ll just get to it and not ask why you want to go there”
“Heh, you know me so well already - then again, most do, or they don’t end up being on this mortal plane for too long”
Above the skies of Svalbard, near Brascon abandoned nuclear reactor. Ladislaus stared out of his helicopter at the surrounding area below. Most of the settlements surrounding the northern town had been abandoned, and still were despite the now relative low risk of irradiation. There were, however, still a few who lived around the area - one of those people was of great interest to Ladislaus. At that very moment, he was reviewing the notes on said individual: his papers fluttering and flapping in the wind.
"'A woman named Marle Mcclarindale went to the Brascon abandoned nuclear reactor to study the Svarizian-born anomaly of Zodiac powers. After a decade into her research, she found a young Sikh boy who had been cast away from his community in a local village outside the town for reasons unknown; she took him as an apprentice, and he learnt how to use the powers exceptionally quickly. However, his and her ideals were opposed: he wanted to use his power to take revenge on those that had wronged him - she believed that was irresponsible: they shouldn't 'abuse' their power and be more responsible.'" Ladislaus suddenly paused his reading to make a comment about what he just read, before picking the papers back up and continuing. "She wanted them to live like rats; how undignified for people of such power - 'this led to the boy leaving Marle's research, and never being heard from again.' or so it says"
As he put the papers down for one last time after finishing his reading, he leaned over and took another look down at the ground below him, then spoke to the pilot of the chopper "In case you haven't noticed, this is the landing spot"
"Yep"
"You know standard procedure right? Keep out the way of any people, and if someone starts asking you question, unless they look like the target" Ladislaus then handed the pilot a loaded handgun "Don't let them ask another one, got it?"
"Got it"
The helicopter then landed, and as Ladislaus stepped out, he breathed in the rusted air of the abandoned town. The surroundings were decrepit and totally rundown - lifeless and empty buildings at every turn, whilst the road beneath his feet had born the brunt of the elements for many decades without any care from anyone. The sky above was bare and barren; dark clouds reigned above a sad town, and it seemed the same was true as far as the eye could see. The only hint that anything had once been alive in this place was the occasional groaning of a defunct pylon or loose door swaying in the wind. It was difficult to believe any sort of life forms ever used to inhabit this place; yet inhabit it they used to do.
"Well, no point going for some gaily sightseeing, I've got an old man to find... now where would could someone be hiding in this hellscape?"
Thus, Ladislaus began searching the abandoned town. He spent an hour walking around empty houses, shops, restaurants, and churches, but he came up fruitless. Mildly disappointed by his lack of results, he resigned to sitting on a bench which seemed to have survived this place's apocalypse, and pulled out his bottle of water for a drink. However, just as he did...
"It's not often I see another human being in this place. What is your purpose here?" Ladislaus immediately snapped his head around to face the source of the voice. His eyes were met by an old man, he must have been around 50 or 60: his dastār on his head and Kirpan at his belt signified he was a Sikh. His slightly wrinkled face was marked with multiple scars, as well as a pair of bushy eyebrows sitting atop strikingly golden eyes. All of his clothes were extremely worn, like they hadn't been replaced for multiple decades - all of this matched perfectly with the description Ladislaus had been reading about, confirming to him that this was the man talked about in his reports.
"We-hell, funnily enough that has to do with you, my friend!"
"That's another one I don't think I've heard for a long time - go on, you've intrigued me" Ladislaus then took on a more sombre and melancholic tone, raising the Sikh man's suspicions about the who was in front on him
"Ahh... you've really had a rough one haven't you? You had such potential, yet you've been forced to live in the darkness, a stowaway when you should have held greatness... a great shame, really..."
"How the hell do you know anything about me?"immediately the Sikh man didn't trust whoever this was in front of him, and took on a cold tone with him from this point.
"But you know, really it's her fault isn't it?" At the mention of a her, the Sikh man's hands slowly drifted down towards his kirpan. Whoever this person was, he clearly knew more than he let on. "Ah yes, she had such power, but lacked the vision or the strong will required to do anything with it. All she wanted was to keep people safe; but you, you knew what you should have done. Those bastards really would have got what they deserved had you had your way. Alas, if only you had been Marle Mcclarin-" Ladislaus' final syllable of his sentence was cut off as a blade was suddenly centimetres away from his throat.
"You should not know that name"
"Oh just like I shouldn't know your's, James?" at that, James flinched, but still kept his kirpan pointed at the mysterious man's neck. "You want to know how I know them, right? Well... let's just say that if you hang around in the gutter" He pointed around the bleak surroundings. "You pick up some dirt"
"I think I would rather know why I shouldn't start an excavation into your throat right about now"
"Ah yes, of course of course, how could I forgot?" at that, Ladislaus placed a finger on James' kirpan, then gently moved it down so it was no longer pointing right at his neck. "I have a proposal for you James, something you should be very interested in"
Jinyuan's New Chambers
"Your chambers, my lady." A servant told.
In another part of the vast Palace expanse, as the Empress welcomed the US diplomats, Jinyuan was led to her suite of chambers within the Changchun Palace (长春宫), the Palace of Everlasting Spring, one of the many smaller Palatial courtyards within the vast Yongan Palace built solely for the residence of those in the Ensemble. The room that met Jinyuan's eyes was the Drawing Chamber, the first room one would enter. There was a small throne-like chair at one end, and several more chairs at the sides as well as large turquoise censer in the center. There were tables with vases and jade ornaments, as well as carved wooden screens.
"A room apt for my lady." Hupo (琥珀) told. She was Jinyuan's closest attendant, accompanying her mistress from the Luo family estate until she was called back for urgent matters.
"Indeed" Jinyuan said. "Her Grace has done much labor on this maiden of a humble house. Do send my gracious thanks to the Empress, this would do more than well."
"I shall, my lady." The servant bowed. "The Empress invites all in the Ensemble to dine in the Baolien Hall for luncheon, though her grace does send her regrets that she cannot attend due to matters of urgency. Would your ladyship be there?"
"Of course"
The servant bowed once more. "Than if it please my lady, I shall take my leave."
Baolien Hall
They entered the hall, Jinyuan changed to a long trailing robe of dark green silk, embroidered with blooming peonies that shimmered as she made her way in. All eyes were upon her: eyes of curiosity, eyes of appraisal, of observance, and some of indifference.
"Jinyuan!" Chunxing cried from a table, where she and Lixin were waving. "Come, let us sit together!"
"You all are here too?" Jinyuan asked as she smoothed her skirts and sat.
"Of course we are, this is a very good chance." Lixin replied.
"For?"
They looked and Jinyuan incredulously. "Surely you did some research?" Chunxing exclaimed.
"I-"
"Oh no matter. You see, the first meal you have on the first day of your Ensemble is a time for first impressions." Chunxing explained.
"Indeed." Added Lixin. "You look your best and have a wander around, or sit. Whatever you please. What is important is to observe; observe every man that passes as if wandering a garden and searching for the best flower to pick."
"Study their eyes, read their face." Chunxing told. "Search for hints of their personality from their facade. When you find the men you like, find their names and remember them for the future." She smiled. "That's how you start the game."
The game indeed, Jinyuan thought. A game of love.
She turned her gaze, jeweled ornaments tinkling in her elegantly tied hair, to the passing crowds.
I will not fail She thought.
A Game of Grace: The Feast
There was a soft sliding sound; a screen painted with mountains, misted in clouds of pure gold, had parted gracefully by unseen hands. A lady was revealed; hair elegantly tied and studded with jewels, maroon robes embroidered with pink peonies, and butterflies shimmering and seeming to flit about upon the rippling silk. It trailed several feet, an elegant masterpiece of tradition and grace. It suited her well, Jinyuan thought. Her Grace's own sister, the most beautiful twin flowers Feng can boast.
Her golden eyes shimmered with amusement as she waved a rigid oval fan, her pink raised. Her famed nails were proudly on display, with only her fifth and fourth nails left to grow by tradition. It was covered with gilded nail guards that clinked merrily each time she folded her hands. Jinyuan glanced down at her own in distaste. A full six inches... and mine is barely three. If only they were as long as my nail guards.... Hers were turquoise, clad in gold shaped to look like swirling clouds. She hoped she will grow longer, she had every aspect of the beauty; skin pale as the moon, hair black as a raven's hide, a radiant face and build, all but her nails were perfect. They all knelt in their places in respect, robes slithering softly in the air.
"恭請金城公主聖金萬安" (A thousand gilded greetings, Princess Jincheng)
Princess Jincheng... Princess of the golden city..., Jinyuan remembered that Her Grace's title as Princess was Princess Jinshan (金山公主), princess of the golden mountain. With Jincheng meaning princess of the golden city, it was no doubt in reference to their gilded eyes that were so rare in the Hua race these days.
"起” (Arise), came her gentle voice. Soft as it was, it still somehow spread to the ears of all in the hall.
"How beautiful are the flowers that blossom bright in the spring." The Princess murmured. "Before me sway a garden bright with fragrant blooms. Welcome, all of you, to the Ensemble. My Imperial Sister has urgent matters that do demand her gilded gaze, and so I shall take her steed to host the First Feast." She gazed around, her eyes two wells of tranquil peace. "The Yongan Palace is ever-glad and open to the Ensemble year by year, where maidens and men wander these vast courts for love. Many have found their heart's yearn, and even now live happily in peace." The Princess lowered her fan. "And that is what the Ensemble is about; a search for love in a garden great. And for many dynasties this tradition was honored for long.... And now another begins and another year is hailed. Eat, drink, there is plenty for all. But never forget; every glance can turn to fascination, and fascination shall easily change to love." She bowed. "And so, let the First Feast begin."
She clapped her hands twice. An orchestra of traditional guzheng, guqin, erhu, shen, and other Hua instruments burst to life. A troop of servants entered, bending the knees slightly in respect as they entered the door. They went to the central tables, turned as one, and elegantly placed the silver platters with a perfectly synchronized kneel. The sitting down of the Princess was their notice that the feast has now began.
"May fortune be on our side." Lixin giggled.
And so they separated, all wandering the serving tables with their servants in tow. Jinyuan kept her eyes alert, and tried to at the same time scrutinize her choices. That would surely curse me with the smell of the sea Jinyuan thought as she turned away from a platter of crabs. What about those? Would they befoul my breath? She frowned over a particularly strong-seasoned stack of dumplings. What about some of those bok choi...
"Excuse me." A man told.
She jumped at the sudden voice. It was a man in deep blue robes, embroidered with herons prancing among the water reeds. His hair, uncut by tradition, was wound into a tight topknot and secured with a gilded pin.
“Do forgive me my lord, I do not mean offense.” Jinyuan managed to stammer out.
“Perfectly alright.” The man said as he took his pick from the table. “My lady, if I would have your honoured name…..”
She smoothed her robes and bent her legs to a curtsey as she folded her sleeves. “Jinyuan, First Daughter of Lord and Lady Luo, my lord.”
“Baoyu, First Son of Lord and Lady Shun.” He bowed in answer. “And it shall be my greatest pleasure to meet my lady of Luo.”
Male Delegate: "And thats not all, we have been getting similar reading in many other continents. We have yet to still talk with said governments, and we have no assurance that they will take such news lightly."
The Empress furrowed her brows, but if she was troubled it was hidden behind a mask of regal neutrality.
"Things buried deep within the age-long ice. This does seem grave indeed, however I do want to ask; why do you know that it is dangerous to us all? And how so would it be?"
"We've been recording information and scanning these forms, and they seem to be in some sort of, "Hibernation". And there is no reason to believe that the one underneath your nation is not Hibernating as well."
Woman Delegate: " And from recent information. They are slowly waking up from their slumber." She says, and the tone in her voice was dead serious. These, Behemoths, whatever they are, they where waking up. "And right now we are trying to hopefully begin to work with other nations to help with the study and containment of surviving Behemoths."
Male Delegate: "Just so you know, the base is just a front for the public. To be seen as a strengthen bond between our two nations, but really it will be the first of many potential bases across the planet," The woman laid out a map of the wold, and multiple locations where the future bases where going to be set up. The eternal weebdom
"The High Weeb!"
Tomoharu Watanabe strode through into the Hall of Weebs of the Capitoline Palace, his head straight and face a mask of stern.
My first sitting in the Hall He thought. I better not make a fool of myself before I've even began
After a blessing from the High Priest of the Weebist Church, discussions of government began. There were five provinces in the Weebdom, not including the capital Takayama. They were named the same as their cities, which each is the seat of the great families of the nation. Their leaders, called Masters, sat in the Grand Council of Weebs and had an active voice in government affairs.
"A protest organisation seems to have emerged, your highness." Souhei Kinjou, or Lord Kinjou, of the city Kyokko, said. "It disturbs Kyokko's peace."
"In Gengetsu too." Said Yuuhi Kawahara, or Lady Kawahara. "They do seem well organised."
"Let us crush them!" Hoshihito Satou, or Lord Satou of the city Jimouri, cried. "We take their blood and trample their bodies. Our swords lie in waiting-"
"How tactless." Rieko Fukuhara, or Lady Fukuhara of Fukuda said. "Surely you know better not to be too bloody with this? Ah of course I forgot. Those of house Satou are all brawn and brain."
"What did you say?" Shouted Lord Satou. "Come here and fight me, I would like to see you try to land any blow on me. Yours is a city of girls with no manly-"
"Enough you two, settle down." Tomoharu sighed. Of course I'll have to deal with those two. The sword and the sakura blossom, Fukuhara and Satou never got along, that is a known fact.
"Anyways, your highness. I would suggest that we deal with this more indirectly, open action would do naught to our image would it?" Lady Fukuhara told. "To prevent them gaining support, and to perhaps sway them from their goal, we could have the channels broadcast a few romcom animes designed to gain public attention. Perhaps that would do for now."
"I still think we should use our swords." Lord Satou grumbled. "I need-"
"Oh do shut up, if we follow your advice the Weebdom would be slammed by the world."
"Perhaps we could do something about our education?" Souhei Konjou, or Lord Kinjou of the city Kyokko, said. "Moralistic education, subtly nudging them to the principles of weeb."
"Or perhaps a distraction in another way." Crooned Lady Yuuhi Kawahara of Gengetsu, and a known advocate of free love. "The art of love shall soothe their simmering anger, perhaps if we promoted a few love stories to take up their gossip they will surely cease. Perhaps just in case, more pleasure districts be opened for their leisure... if they so want."
Tomoharu thought for a while. "Let us wait for a while." He said "They are not causing much trouble, let us see when they do."
"As you wish, your highness." They bowed their heads.
"And may the Almighty Senpai above bless fortune to your highness" The High Priest said.
Ah yes, luck. I'll need lots of that in running this place.
The Holy See, leader of the blessed Kouhais of the Senpai above, tapped his high gilded staff thrice. His robes shone in the air as he raised his hand in blessing. Before him knelt a thousand worshippers in reverence, to the holy weebism that shines above.
“May Senpai bless us all, may Senpai grant us peace, and may Weebism be forever great and bright.”
****
“Your Holiness does exude an air of blessed holiness.” Tomoharu Watanabe told. “Much fitting for the highest voice of the almighty Senpai above.”
“Only the Senpai’s high Kouhai, your weebness.” The Holy See murmured. “The Holy Student Council shall govern in purity in the holy academy forever and ever. Senpai reigns as Kaicho, and only with Senpai shall the world be blessed in its weebness.”
“Indeed.” Tomoharu murmured. “Well…. Your Holiness, I do come at a request to the Church. You see, the weebist mind is in danger from the protestors that demand an end to weeb. The work of The Soviet state of Svalbard perhaps, however we are most unsure. We come for the holy advice of the Senpai’s highest Kouhai.”
“The Kaicho speaks to me most clear and bright.” The Holy See said. “Our world is plagued by heretics that befoul the noble weebist air. The Church shall help the Council of the Capitoline Palace in this threat to our world of weebist pride.”
“Thank you most kindly.” The High Weeb murmured. “I shall take my leave.”
The Holy See was calm in his facade, listening to the footsteps that faded away. The will of Senpai is clear; The Church has to act. He thought. If blasphemy lies abound, it shall signify the fall of honour in the Council’s grace. It is time, it seems, for the Church to rise.
He stared out the window, where the Basilica’s gardens basked in the sun.
Holy Rule shall be the way
