The Deep Ecosphere of Blue Nagia

Nation of ecologists wrote:NoE does not have very developed television networks, as most people prefer to experience the country itself as it has stunning natural beauty. However there are a few news channels and nature channels.

Blue Nagia is very similar! As most people choose to live in forest communes with as little technology as they can get away with, television is not very popular.

However, there is a news channel (NNQ, Neela Naga Qaanat or Blue Nagia Channel) that runs daily from 6am-10pm. It's mostly seen on public screens, as few people have their own television.

Radio is popular in coastal areas, where small, wind-up transistor radios can be taken aboard ships. MA (Mahaatat Altaqs or Weather Station) is the channel of choice here. There's also RY (Radiu Yl, Night Radio) that broadcasts radio dramas, quite well loved. Families will sometimes make an activity of listening to these before bed.

Lynxes and bobcats are really cool too, as is the Asian Golden Cat with its complex fur patterns on the face and stomach

Mine is the jaguar, and that's not (just) because it's an informal national animal of Brazil. Jaguars are very unique, they're basically that edgy smart reserved anti-hero every anime has, except the big cat version. They rarely try to intimidate their prey like tigers and lions, and also unlike them they bite the skull of their prey, causing an instant death, rather than the neck. Jaguars don't like to make a mess. I've never seen one in the wild, sadly (or maybe thankfully).

On second place... I don't know, the güiña. They're just so tiny and round!

Aw, that's the first time I'd heard of the güiña! I had to look them up.

I'm a fan of snow leopards, personally. You don't see too many cold-climate cats, and the way they carry their tails in their mouths is so precious.

So I have a question. I have a ton of ECONOMIC stuff banned, like computers, cars, video games, etc. etc. but my economy is reasonably good. If I unbanned everything, my economic freedom would ~probably~ get into the higher range, right? If that's true, then I would probably shift from a civil lovefest to anarchy, but wouldn't that be prevented by my tax rate of like 65%? Would it be possible to be an anarchy with a tax rate of 65%? or is there something I am missing

The tax rate doesn't affect a nation's classification ("Anarchy," "Civil Rights Lovefest," etc). The only thing that plays a role with that is your freedoms (Civil Rights, Political Freedoms, Economic Freedoms). And you do appear to have a good chance to get classified as an Anarchy if you remove those policy bans.

For the first time I think ever, in light of recent regional pushes, I have seriously considered the current WA motion and voted against. I believe this resolution is paradoxical, as it promises to not impose restrictions on members yet then proceeds to do precisely that. Also, wouldn't this technically ban larping? Am I reading this correctly or what? Either way, against, and voted on actual opinions this time.

i've seen the puma/cougar in the wild a couple of times, where i grew up in the sierras in california, where we call them mountain lions.
three names, one cat, felis concolor. they really are just cats, that are large, strong and fast. which makes it dangerous to get to close to them,
because as humans we bruze too easily. but generally they mean well. oddly enough, the one creature i'd never personally seen in the wild, is a fox.
which is kind of strange for a number of reasons. they were definatly around, or had been, but never showed themselves to me.
and why that's odd is because everything else, i mean everything else, even the elusive pine martin, i would happen upon in my walks, or even in our tiny half acre yard.

It appears there was a minor server shutdown. Only lasted like 30 minutes, and it happens much more frequently than one would expect. We're lucky the site itself didn't crash and forums still worked. Thursday is usually the day this kind of stuff happens, like if they need to fix a bug or change something they do it on Thursday.

Max needs to get better servers, because if this is a normal thing, this is going to be a big problem.

I’ve never seen a wild fox either (despite living in its natural habitat area) but seen wild wolves and rabbits instead. The only popular animals left to see are aforementioned fox and a wild bear which is a doubtful thing to wish to do. Even though my mother has encountered them all, I wasn’t around at the time. Apart from that, I’ve been lucky to see various small forest/field inhabitants such as snakes, hamsters, mice, and such. They all are adorable and cute in spite of the fact that some of them are pretty dangerous for humans.

Nonetheless, meeting wild animals is something special for me as for a “city kid”, I feel connection with the nature and diversity of one. It’s so cool when you walk in the woods and a random squirrel comes closer and you pass your hand and the squirrel touches it, it feels like a tiny but precious magic moment.

I grew up with a fox that liked to come out and hang around in the neighbor's yard. It started as a four-legged fox, but ended up as a three-legged fox (and amazingly survived that way for years) after tangling with a local Great Horned Owl. They are handsome creatures.

Irrelevant to anyone but me, but Recife is currently underwater. The rain is finally beginning to stop now after 12+ hours of continuous rain. And Recife is a city-sized raft floating over a swamp, so everything always floods (there's a neighborhood near where I live literally called "drowned ones"). And the tides are starting to rise so it's about to get worse.

So much for the Brazillian Venice, ay?
EDIT: nvm the rain is back

Rain is no stranger to Recife, right? Here in the US, Seattle is probably the most notoriously rainy city ("Rain City" is, in fact, one of its nicknames), but looking at the charts it averages just over 40% of what you do. Almost the same number of rainy days, but it looks like you guys just get slammed every time it comes down!

Hope you can stay safe and dry.

Speaking of foxes ... and cats.

We had a stray cat who adopted us around 2004 or so, known as The Mammy Cat. Even after she had a trip to get her tubes tied, the name stuck.

But anyway, generally speaking she was a demon to most other cats and all other animals. No dog ever got the better of her. Or fox as it turns out. Over the years she eventually moved into the house full time of her own choice but this was before that. So she's there her eating her dinner with a few of her comrades and the fox shows up looking for a share. The other cats scatter but the after a brief showdown between the fox and the Mammy Cat, the fox backs down, before before she resorts to violence, and patiently waits until after she's finished before he was permitted to eat.

We lost the Mammy Cat earlier this year at about age 18 after she was diagnosed with cancer.

The cat I refer to above is provisionally known as the Replacement Cat. She showed up and took up lodgings in the shed a few days before the Mammy Cat was put to sleep.

I've seen foxes several times, twice up close. Taking a late evening walk I met a very curious young fox that kept coming up to me, then running off, then coming back a little closer. Kept that up for like half an hour maybe, was a pretty cool experience. In my late teens (iirc) we had one come up to stare through a window, I'm guessing probably attracted to the scent of one of our dogs.

The one downside to having foxes living around you is their scream. They genuinely can sound like a woman being murdered - it's horrifying. More than a few calls to police have resulted from folks unfamiliar with their sound or presence waking up believing a brutal killing is taking place in the woods nearby!

A couple of times in my current place when I stay up very very late, the foxes get confident enough to come out in force with their calls. It's loud too.

Otherwise gotta say, I like foxes. There was one that used to live in the park near me, and would occasionally swoop round to have a look at people in the evenings. They're fun.

Grew up with a cat very similar to that! My mother tells me of an utterly horrifying story when Kitty the Cat faced down a dog that was still bloody from tearing another cat to shreds. Long story short, Kitty made the murderous mutt back down and retreat.

Not sure if she ever faced down a fox though.

It's almost unbelievable when you first experience it. Like living through a scene from a horror movie. Hard to believe the sounds you are hearing from out the dark woods in the middle of the night are just some little ole foxes. First time I heard them, it took my breath away.

Thank you.
We call it "raincife" in days like this.
And update: it's still raining, but a lot less. I'm fine and all of my family and friends are fine. Though most streets usually flood, the houses are safe in most neighborhoods. I'm just very worried about the slums and stilt houses... Really rainy days are their own sort of disaster for them. If you've watched Parasite, it gets to the level of the flooding scenes very often. Even in the neighborhood I'm currently in, which is a lower-middle class one, things get a lot worse depending on where you are exactly.

Also, since this is Forest, I'm gonna mention that the reason why Recife floods so easily is partly because of how enviromentally screwed the whole city is, because the mangrove forests were almost completely destroyed and their soil basically buried under concrete. There's nowhere for the water to go so it's just stuck here. I say "almost" because the destruction is still ongoing, even though there are proven links between the deforestation of mangroves and the excessive (and deadly) yearly floods...

We also have a shark problem because of deforestation. Hurray.
