I'm in the US, which means are already headed for a second and wave. My grandmother, who was 108, died of coronavirus after surviving both world wars and the Spanish flu pandemic. As such, I'm quite distraught about the incompetence in my government atm.
With the assistance of local authorities, the debilitating outbreak of Covid-19 in Sable Ferret City has finally been curtailed, with less than 30 cases currently active.
Meanwhile, the Imperial Border Force has finally begun allowing Great Edmundian citizens trapped overseas to return home. The IBF had come under intense criticism in recent weeks for stopping all inbound flights and ship arrivals, including returning citizens. Returned travellers will have to undergo a two-week hotel quarantine before being allowed to return home. 10,000 National Guard troops, as well as 20,000 Air Raid Precautions volunteers, have been activated to assist local authorities and the IBF with maintaining security at the hotels and screening returned travellers arriving back from airports.
The Great Edmundian economy has also been hit by the Coronavirus. However, business is beginning to return to normal, and business-owners are confident the worst has passed. The prevalence of industries such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing in Edmundia has also shielded the nation from the worst effects, which have been felt by the tourism and hospitality industries. The Imperial Ministry of Industry and Finance has passed a 5-billion-Royal stimulus package to boost the economy Empire-wide. The particular strain of the Islandsian coronavirus specirfically mutated to become more deadly, with a death rate of roughly 17.6%. The pandemic has claimed the lives of numerous members of Parliament, including the Vice Sage Zachary Taylor, who was supposed to ascend to the sagedom and die of cholera. The virus has sparked unprecedented civil unrest in the historically stable and egalitarian country, a country where all coups have always been bloodless. That changed on June 17, 2020, when there was an attempted coup that killed numerous other MPs, and Vice Sage William McKinely, who died just as he wanted to. This has resulted in a Second Opressean War for Independence, all in the middle of an incredibly deadly virus that has claimed 110 million Islandsian lives. All of this has culminated in an internet blackout throughout the country, which is partly why the greater Edmundian Empire hasn't heard of this. As of July 3, 2020, the Islands are under Marshall Law, named after some guy (or gal!) who happened to also be named Marshall. The good news is that the pandemic is quieting down, and the revolution is being put down with extreme prejudice as we speak. Meanwhile, the traitors who tried to overthrow the government have been exiled to Like Islands, so they can suffer their punishment of being forced to live in the most beautiful, lovely environment in the Empire. Truly a dastardly punishment! Sage Byrne Sunders has selected a new Vice Sage, the third in as many months, and rumors are spreading that the new Vice Sage will be "Great" Scott Morrison, a former fire fighter.

The Imperial Government has urgently ordered the deployment of two Imperial Navy hospital ships, the INS Clemency and the INS Tranquility, to Altonianic waters to assist with virus treatment.
Meanwhile, a laboratory test to find a vaccine at Gladesopolis University has spectacularly failed. Three dozen mutated lab rats have escaped from the GLU's Institute of Virology into the surrounding suburbia. The rats are reportedly highly dangerous, and local authorities and pest controllers have been deployed in the area to contain the invasive species.

In other news, some of the exiles are planning to sue the Altonianic government for mistreatment. In an interview given to local media, when asked what he would like to say to Sage Byrne Sunders, one citizen looked a TV camera square in the lens before declaring "See you at the Supreme Court!!"

The past four months in the history of our great nation have been some of the darkest yet. Once the virus began to infiltrate every facet of Osajian society, the transition to democracy was put on hold, and the Sultan, Afzal bin Akbar, declared martial law and total control of government. This caused huge protests, which only served to spread the virus farther and farther. This is not helped by the fact that bin Akbar is 68, and is a stomach cancer survivor. The situation became a whole lot worse when bin Akbar, despite all proper precautions, caught the virus and subsequently died. The coalition between the DPP and the Osajian Communist Party has consequently splintered, devolving into an ongoing civil war. The factions are: Libertarian/Progressive East Osajia (DPP), Authoritarian/Communist North Osajia, and Fascist/Nazi West Osajia. Meanwhile, a fourth faction has recently taken control of Dhabi-Sultoon, and reinstated the sultanate in the Second Sultanate of Osajia. This s**tshow has claimed over 13 million lives, and is the deadliest war in terms of Osajian deaths in both colonial and modern history. The civil war shows zero possibility of ending before the year is over. All this is happening as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to rage on, with no sign of stopping either. Osajia is in the middle of a second wave, with upwards of 20% of the populace already being contaminated. However, there isn't even a silver lining of herd immunity; Osajian scientists have determined that at most you will be protected for six weeks from the virus, and as such, people who were first infected and survived have died after a subsequent reinfection. The pandemic has killed about 90 million people, or roughly 6% of Osajia's population. The nation has been under an internet black out, like the Islands, ever since the beginning of the civil war. Starvation and miscellaneous disease is expected to kill roughly 12% of Osajia's population over the next 2 years. Furthermore, the economy that was already in a recession due to the pandemic has plummeted over 95% in value, which passes even Great Depression levels by more than double. Practically all sides of the war are bankrupt, and effectively fighting with limited ammunition.

Some of the escaped rats unfortunately managed to stowaway onto the INS Clemency, and have escaped onto the capital island. Containment efforts have proved fruitless, as the mutated rats unfortunately began to breed like rabbits. They have wrecked the local ecosystem. However enterprising entrepreneurs, observing the starvation statistic coming out of Osajia, as well as the fact that the rats are almost as big as a large cat, have an ingenious solution; They've begun breeding the rats (who are, reports show, delectable), and shipping them to Osajia, making billions overnight. This has quickly solved Osajia's food shortage with hundreds of millions of tons of rat meat, although Osajian residents say, quote, "Rat meat gets old REAl fast." All of this has resulted in a boon for the Mozzarella Productivity Index, as rat growers are following the old Irish mouse adage, "I don’t want the cheese, I just want to get out of this feckin' trap."

Judge: The court is now in session. We will now hear opening statements. You're up defense. Defense: Your Honor, the Sage had now legal authority to banish these people, especially without the approval of the country in question. Sending the traitors to the most luxurious country in the Empire is clearly cruel and unusual punishment. Judge: And now to the prosecution. Prosecution: Your Honor, our country doesn't have the death penalty. Under our own government's laws, banishment is the harshest punishment imaginable. Typically, we send banished people to hellholes to live out brutish lives, but these people deserved far worse. They actaully initiated a coup in which people actually died, Your Honor. They deserve what they get. Judge: Very well. With opening statements out of the way, we can move onto witness testimony. Defense is up first once again. Prosecution: Thank you, Your Honor. The claimant to the Lava Guavan Supreme Court has been noted, and a court date has been set. All sides of this case are to be in Lavana to argue their cases before that said Court on July 19, 2020.
The Empire has watched the developments in Osajia with grave concern. A motion in the Imperial Parliament is currently underway for a peacekeeping force to be sent to Osajia, although this has also gained opposition from those concerned for the health of Edmundian troops. More to come.
