The Judiciary Committee of the United States House of Representatives just voted along party lines (23 Ayes [D] to 19 No's [R]) to approve two Articles of Impeachment (one regarding the intent and purpose behind Donald Trump's call with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, and one regarding the Obstruction of Congress which allegedly occurred when President Trump forbade White House official from testifying and refused to provide documents at the Committee's request).

The Articles now move to the floor of the full House where they will be voted on as soon as next Wednesday.

It's there that most assume President Trump will join only two other U.S Presidents who have been fully impeached (Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton) by the House.

Should the House do as such, it is dually assumed that a trial will be scheduled in the Senate by mid-January of 2020.

Does anyone know if the Feudalism policy works with the Monarchy policy? I have been trying to establish myself as king of a medieval kingdom.

Is there a way to change nation name?

When Thoreau wrote, "the government that governs best governs least," I don't think he meant one that has zero laws. I think he was making the much more clever observation that it is the very speed, "smoothness," and alleged certainty of autocratic government that is the problem with such systems. They conflate, frankly, war strategy with political strategy, a move I consider particularly foolish. "Speed is the essence of war," as Sun Tzu said, but when it comes to social and political change, it is nearly impossible to force sudden shifts of values or behaviors.

It is important to have an executive office that can make snap decisions when needed (hence why every democracy in the post-Roman world has had one, be it President, Prime Minister, Chancellor, or what-have-you). But with the complexity and severity of the issues a modern state must face legislatively and judicially, I just don't see how a singular absolute autarch can handle all the necessary details personally. He or she will need to rely so heavily on aides and advisors that these extended legislative and judicial helpers will inherently lean toward some separation of powers, if only for efficacy. And then the issue of "how do I keep my delegated subordinates under my thumb and not rebelling" becomes a serious concern. That's how the Magna Carta happened, you know. The king couldn't hold enough personal power to keep all of the nobility in check without their consent. And that is the root of the modern idea that sovereignty arises from the consent of the governed.

You can't order people who refuse to obey you. When a nation passes a population critical mass (which depends on technology, social mores, and many other factors), it becomes impossible to guarantee the obedience of a sufficient majority, and you either see states fracture, or you see them provide rules for securing the consent of the governed. Though really those are the same thing: one separates out enough of the non-consenting populace that effective consent is restored; the other reacquires effective consent through what is effectively a contract. Either way, you still only command those who choose to obey, whether out of love/loyalty, respect/fear, or greed/self-interest.

First Founders wrote:We shouldn't get snow in our winter months, and when I was a kid snow was a rare thing

Unstable climate effects are in fact exactly what has been predicted by climate scientists for years, hence the aversion to the technically-correct-but-misleading term "global warming" (the warming planet is only a cause, not the most relevant effect) and the preference for the term "climate change," which is less clear in meaning but also less misleading. A planet that is on average warmer erodes the dynamic equilibrium that, for example, keeps the frigid air of the north pole trapped up there. Rising warm air displaces a large portion if the cold air, which sinks and flows south--causing storms, and unseasonably severe snows, as it mixes with more of the warm, wet air of latitudes farther south.

They are compatible. See this nation (the result of a very quick Google seaech...):

No, you can't change it anymore. Only capitalization changes are allowed in the settings, so consider the name of your nation wisely before creating it.

You can't change it, but you can make as many nations as you want!

Are there lots of dictatorships here? We approve of that because we dislike democracy too.

If you mean in the game generally, no, I don't believe dictatorship is particularly common. I don't think there's any real way to check, and statistics will often be really hard to track because the population fluctuates frequently over time (I've seen swings of 5000 nations or more over the course of merely a few weeks).

Here in Balder? Not really any idea, though it seems as though the region is a little more democracy-favoring. There are a number of very vocal pro-dictatorship voices that have appeared here in the RMB over the years, but I don't thing this region is especially pro-dictatorship. I'd say it's overall pretty evenly mixed--as one would expect for a sinker region (that is, regions that are automatically assigned for refounded nations).

Our regional government itself is a constitutional monarchy, so we do have our democracy and a little bit of autocracy.
