I can see that. "The Kingdom of God is inside you"....

I'm a buddhist and I see great overlap of the dharma in my political beliefs. Only when peaceful though, as Ahimsa prevents us from violent actions.

MARY WAS A PUNK ROCKER
by Comrade Hildegard

Mary was a punk rocker.
Her mohawk was hidden by History
Flattened
Under a veil.
The pyramid studs -
Plucked
From her vegan leather vest -
Rearranged
Into a crown of stars.

Jesus of Nazareth,
Champion of whores,
Defender of unwed mothers,
And lepers
Begging barefoot by the Bowery.

Jesus,
Scourge of bankers
Flouter of legions
Drowner of pigs.

He didn't learn that sh-t
From His deadbeat father
Who sends choirs of cherubim at Christmas,
But won't answer the damn phone
'Incoming Call: Gethsemane'.

He didn't learn it from Joseph -
An honest man who taught
The boy
An honest trade,
Which He then shrugged off
In search of misfits
Down by the piers.

It was Mary,
Punk rocker,
Mother of God
Who nursed a revolutionary at her breast.
Mary, who taught the fruit of her womb
To cast the mighty from their thrones.

History swept the Docs
From off her feet
And made her barefoot.
History ripped the piercings
From her face
And gilded her robe with them.

Mary was a punk rocker
Who never whispered, "let it be."
She roared it at Gabriel
And sent him quivering back to God.

agnostic, but i would say i highly value using a system that teaches morals, defines communal customs, makes a network / community stronger. these are all aligned with anarchism. where a religion has issues they should be criticised, and where religion is claimed as a reason for violence that's BS. but there's a lot of valuable words and action coming from the muslim council of britain, for instance. they teach acceptance of all (people are of two types, my sibling in islam, or my equal in humanity") and promote interfaith dialogue and publicly work to reduce their internal issues of antiblackness. these are all excellent actions and so if you have extra parts to structure your behaviour that i deem personally not relevant, but you're a good person from it, then i fully support that. it's not how i shape my view of the world  but if you want, hell yeah. evangelical, fundamentalist, or otherwise oppressive tendencies can gtfo though. i don't truck with uncritical support of anything and that includes religions.

Al cisneros wrote:Some regard the teachings of Jesus Christ to be compatible with anarchism.

"You know that the rulers of the heathen have power over them, and the leaders have complete authority. This, however, is not the way it shall be among you. If one of you wants to be great, you must be the servant of the rest; and if one of you wants to be first, you must be the slave of the others" -- Matthew 20:25

"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God" -- Romans 13:1

Only one of these quotes is by Jesus.

First off I'm new so hello everyone!

To answer this question I am. I was an atheist for a long time but converting to Orthodox Christianity helped shape my current politics a lot.

I bid you welcome to the region.

If you don't mind the question how did you move from atheism to Orthodox Christianity in your mind? Did an experience compel your newfound faith or was it gradual?

Christian Anarchist, Leo Tolstoy

'We can know only that we know nothing. And that is the highest degree of human wisdom.' Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace.

Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, also known as Leo Tolstoy, was born on 9 September 1828 to a family of old Russian nobility. Tolstoy married Sophia Andreevna Behrs, known as 'Sonya' in 1862 and the couple had 13 children.

In the 1870s, Tolstoy's view of the world changed. He experienced a spiritual awakening and moral crisis. He became a Christian anarchist - a pacifist who renounced the state as violent and deceitful. His views on non-violent resistance influenced Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

As Tolstoy's beliefs became more radical, he started to reject both his inherited and his earned wealth, giving most of it away to charitable causes. He also renounced the copyright to his earlier works, stopping him earning any more money from them. The extent of his wealth-giving caused great tensions in his marriage to his wife Sonya. Find out more about his religious views in his work What I believe. Tolstoy died aged 82 in 1910 from pneumonia. Thousands of peasants lined the streets on the day of his funeral.

The initial conversion was rather sudden. When I was an atheist I was still very interested in religion as a sociological topic and studied various religions and attended various services from different faiths to learn more. When I finally attended an Orthodox liturgy it struck me in a way that nothing else had. To keep it short, I found the small chapel we were in beautiful, everything felt ancient and the specific sermon that day was about God's loving forgiveness of everyone despite their sin, a message I never really heard in the Protestant churches of my family. I was in boot camp when that happened, so for the never 3ish years, I was overseas and had to learn Orthodoxy on my own essentially. Finally was able to talk with a priest and interact with the church and Her sacraments again once I was discharged and returned home.

The faith over these years has helped teach me to prefer non-violence, to [try] and respect all people and give aid to all whenever possible, to deny the right of the state to rule over us, and many other things.

How is everyone? How are you doing regionmates?

I'm interested in improving the experience in Anarchy. How could we improve Anarchy together?

I was thinking polls and getting more convos started not governmenty type things or offices. Maybe have a periodical and have those here write articles.

Or how about a podcast with interviews and banter from an Anarchist perspective? What do you think?

Or is it ok as is and BP just needs to do something else with their time?

I was in the Leftist Assembly before moving over here and they were very active! Besides an active board (which is more on members to post) their adminship did all kinds of things to encourage people to take part.
Polls, periodicals, having positions like ambassadors to other regions, ministers to create the newsletter, organize events, you name it. They had a lot of neat things to get people engaged. All of that could be great for Anarchy, however, the biggest thing is getting more people involved and active. I've noticed that the RMB and the Discord are very quiet aside from heroes like you trying to keep it pumping!

How about we each (those interested in chatting) make a list of topics we're interested in discussing with others ? And if anyone seems interested that way they know if you have anything in common and it can be a nice icebreaker?

I feel like Anarchy is definitely a different region so we have to be gradual.

I'm confident we can have a strong community of friends if we all give each other a chance. Let's just be chill and take it slow. Even if its not a regionwide change at least we'll be getting to know each other more (the vocal ones). Hopefully then even the more quiet people will want to engage and we can have a more convivial atmosphere.

My interests in conversation are: Music and Poetry, Drawing (I like to draw), Religion, Outer Space, Radical Politics, Sexuality, History and Psychology, and just about anything you wanna say or talk about I'm a good and curious listener to anyone who graces me with conversation. I'm a Queer Anarchist and a total free spirit with no filter lol, but don't let that scare you off, I am a true friend to my fellow comrades and if you're real with me ill be real with you back. I'm 33 and I live in Southern California, this nation name is my home city's actual name. If you are ever in town visit the 7 eleven on Main St. and mention Anarchy, you get free grub or snacks if I'm there. Im sure the city doesnt appreciate me appropriating their name but theyre doing a sh-t job so I don't care. Come take over the new Anarchist hotspot in So Cal so we can change things and run it better.

People always tell me I share too much but I actually would invite a real life encounter with fellow NSers if theyre in my area and not jerks. I don't need anymore jerks. But if you wanna couch surf and you get to know me, far out and groovy, you got a pal in me. If you wanna help me create a free zone here or an intentional community, or just visit random working class city like mine you're welcome.

I have an idea for a periodical that we could make here. We could have region members write articles for a first edition on any number of subjects. Would anyone like to volunteer?

I figure our first edition can deal with religious anarchists and their perspectives as they have developed in life. Or another subject might be essays on the past 20 years of Anarchist development. Maybe you have a band or music style you wanna introduce to people. Maybe you just want to rant and write beautifully forceful poetic prose. Maybe you can talk about how getting older changes or modulates your plans and makes you kind of either more determined or more pacified in your radicalism (if that is even something that you observe). Maybe you draw like me and wanna share art? Maybe just what Anarchy means to you as an individual.

These are just ideas. I figure a periodical is good cause it lets you get an idea of what the person's knowledge is on without having to promote just unfiltered discussion. I know our discord needs more activity but I just don't see the discord getting a ton of people today or tomorrow without us being more welcoming of casual convos, Roleplaying, and in general just not being afraid of each other. That will take time.

I also am unilaterally announcing my intention to use the polls to create more engagement with insightful or fun questions to draw peoples attention to our Anarchy as a hub of pleasant randomness.

I hope this message finds you well and thank you for reading my post.

Sorry for being all out there with it (my whole spiel), its just how I am. You put me in a room with random people and I'm gonna be the one organizing sh-t without being asked. And I'm gonna always try and bring people together.

This all sounds exciting, I look forward to growth and engagement with other anarchists! When I was in the Navy I was stationed in San Diego as my last posting, so we weren't too far from each other at one point in our lives hahaha but don't worry about sharing "too much" passion is always awesome to see, plus you're into a lot of cool stuff. Defs put me down for contribution in a periodical. I'm always pretty busy so nothing will be too good or thought out, but I'm a writer and always need the chance to work on the skill.
