The Union of People's Republics of Great Acaris The Revolutionary Tolerance Act of 1844 After consulting with the Supreme Council, as well as the Council of People’s Commissars, Chairman Mstizinzar has determined that moving the planned legalization forward by a month would be unlikely to cause any complaint or protest, and so, on the 10th of Emberrule, he signed the Revolutionary Tolerance Act (RTA) into law. The RTA is technically a constitutional amendment, as it enshrines protections for homosexuals in the section of the constitution regarding laws against reactionary discrimination. Along with formal legalization, same-sex marriage has also been legalized, with every Temple in Acaris being required to facilitate weddings for *any* Acarisian citizen, regardless of the gender of the participants. While some within the more conservative margins of society grumble at yet another erosion of traditional values, the nation’s youth has been vocally supportive, with pro-government demonstrations being held in several northern cities, and even a few southern ones. Several hours after the announcement of the enactment of the RCA, the rumors of a romantic relationship between Chairman Mstizinzar and Letryk Mannanleikh were confirmed, as the two men announced their engagement and their intentions to be wed in the Grand Temple by Arch-Hierophant Kreizekh VIII, with the wedding set to take place some time in early 1845. The response to *this* announcement was much more unified, with every Acarisian citizen smart enough to understand how the country worked taking pains to be seen loudly singing the praises of the Chairman, and wishing him the best of luck in his marriage. One foreign tourist who had been present at the time noted after returning home that “Even among those parts of society that remain devoted to the old ways, and vehemently oppose everything this new law stands for, the support for the Chairman and his partner had been overwhelming, which came as a great shock. Of course, the presence of Red Army men in peculiar uniforms at any large demonstration surely has quite a bit to do with this sudden shift in attitude.” |
The Democratic Kingdom of Koxor The Ijenkhari Incident In the early hours of 18 Embersend, near the small town of Ijenkhari in Malkhus Governorate, southern Koxor, several gunshots broke through the calm tones of the desert night. In recent months, the Ijenkhari border crossing had become progressively more armed, on both sides, after the Souellian village opposite the Malkhus river was taken over by revolutionaries. The bridge over the river was guarded almost 24/8 by a troop of armed guards, who numbered around 60 in total by Summertide. They could see the company of guards on the other end of the bridge grow week by week. And so when guns were fired in the dark of night, no one knew which side had started it. But what they did know was that within minutes, every soldier on both sides had been awoken, and shots were ringing out in both directions. The fire quickly caught. A Koxoriek watchman raised the alarm about a group of Souellian gunmen apparently rushing the bridge; more shots rang out, and they clearly retreated quickly, since no threat was seen by the soldiers who first responded. But the message that there was no one there didn’t reach the men behind them, who rushed out fully armed to retaliate for the attack. More piled in to follow them. Before long, around 30 troops had crossed the border into the Souelle, technically becoming the first Koxoriek force to invade foreign sovereign territory in a century. They rushed along the road towards the nearby village, shooting at any noise they heard, before they reached a group of very confused revolutionaries a few hundred metres from the bridge. All were shot on sight. Having apparently satiated themselves, the Koxoriek troops retreated back to the bridge, where they set up an impromptu occupation zone. Within an hour or so, the revolutionaries had apparently organised a response, as sparse gunfire came from opposite the bridge. The Koxoriez retreated back behind the border to take cover, and returned fire. A second “expeditionary” party numbering around 20 went out soon after, guns blazing; but they were assaulted by a shower of bullets close to the bridge, taking several casualties before regrouping and hunting down the remaining attackers. It soon became clear, however, that the formidable force they had been up against was simply a ragtag group of five firing in random directions, all of whom soon lay dead. Still, not wanting to be ambushed again, the Koxoriez retreated back to the bridge to prepare for a standoff. The apparent heated situation continued until the first lights of dawn, when it became clear that there was no one at all on the other side. The head of the border guard force should, by the rules, have contacted his superior to confirm further orders; but instead, acting yet again without command, he gathered another group of men and went across the border for a third time. This time they made it all the way to the village, where they refused to leave until any revolutionaries related to the attack were given over as captives. Orders came soon after sunrise demanding that the colonel abandon the occupation, but he refused. It took until 10am for a second force to come out and defuse the situation. Along the border itself, the flare-up heightened tensions greatly, as several thousand more troops were sent southward to man the border crossings. A statement that afternoon clarified the First Minister’s position on the incident: none of the border guards had done anything wrong, and were simply acting on their best incident, as was right for a soldier of the great Koxoriek armed forces. Of course, as always, he spun his own ideology into the speech, blaming the ineffective Caliantene administration for the incident and arguing for an independent government there that could more efficiently deal with such rebels - and that would, obviously, “protect Koxoriek interests in the area.” Reading between the lines, his intentions were ominously clear. A furthering of anti-coloniser sentiment is just what he needs to continue with his ambitions. |

The Second Republic of Greater Aidia 1845 Elections: More of the Same On the afternoon of 17 Wintertide, 1845, the Electoral Committee of Aidia officially closed announced the results of the riveting 1845 General Elections. The year leading up to the elections were tense. So many parties vying for control of the senate. So many campaigns, debates, political stunts. It was a busy year for many political parties. Many in the public felt that the government wasn't very effective after the initial part of the term. For the most part, after dealing with some foreign relations issues, the Aidian government took a relaxed approach to issues. This was most evident during the economic crisis, where the government's response was to simply cut spending in a number of institutions. Despite the fact that it helped the debt crisis, a large amount of government layoffs and many government services lost quality as a result. With the left and right-wing coalitions often falling into ineffectiveness after getting into office, this election became a big win for the lesser parties initially. During their rallies, many attended, specifically rallies hosted by the Unity, Syndicalist, and People's Parties. These rallies didn't stick, however, during the various debates. When the debates rolled around, the party that easily stole the show was the People's party. Their leader, Senator and former Consul Alegus Colades spoke with such skill that none of the other party leaders could compete. The worst member during the debates was undoubtedly Senator Gasparo Spizega, leader of the Unity Party. Despite being an educated marketing manager, he proved himself to be horrible at debating with others, as debating with him often boiled down to him speaking nonsense and then baselessly claiming he was the best at leading the nation. Regardless, a week after the final public debates were broadcasted, the nation's polling stations were opened up, and millions poured into the streets to vote (or else they'd be fined). Finally, when voting closed, the results were announced: The UDR, Aidia's centrist party, ultimately formed another coalition with the right-wing parties this term, resulting in another right coalition ruling the party. This time, as all three consuls had used their two terms in the Consulship, new consuls had to be selected. The coalition selected one person from each of its parties in their negotiations: one from the UAA, one from the UEA, and one from the UDR. UAA leader Guido Zorzi, UEA leader Aferi Dannius, and UDR leader Rolando Augusta were all selected as members of the consulship. In addition, the UDR demanded more cabinet seats than last time, making the cabinet roughly divided into three with only the UAA having one more than the other two parties. Many hope that, with this consulship shake-up, the government will be more effective than the previous. Time will tell of that will be the case. |

The Union of People's Republics of Great Acaris A Bestseller is Born The work was completed some months earlier, with the publishing delayed to align with the Chairman’s birthday. The announcement to the public about the upcoming release was shortly after the completion of ‘On the Revolution’, in order to build interest. This tactic, combined with the natural interest the nation’s people would have in a book penned by their leader, as well as the intentionally low price set on each volume, led to every single book from the initial printing being bought within hours of being made available. Notably, most people who managed to attain one before they were sold out did not own a full copy of the tome, only one or two volumes that personally interested them. Additionally, as part of a campaign effort related to the upcoming party election, every purchase, be it of a single volume or of a whole set, came with a free, framed portrait of Chairman Mstizinzar, with a small number of these being autographed by the man himself. |

The Union of People's Republics of Great Acaris The First General Party Election Begins Four hours after the announcement of the election date was made, Leizakh Mstizinzar announced his candidacy, backed by the Radical Faction as well as the Futurist Faction (a clique of intellectuals and artists, primarily from Keitann City, led by Letryk Mannanleikh). Two days later, Krazymir Molentiç, leader of the Internationalist Faction, announced his candidacy, running on a platform of increased democratization and a return to a multi-party system. So far, only two other party members, People’s Commissar for Public Health Dr. Miozh Kranmar, and Major General Lorrazh Kremteikh, leaders of the Councilist and Ultraradical factions respectively, have shown any intentions of potentially announcing candidacy. The minority Moderate and Hardliner factions have already announced their support for Chairman Mstizinzar, and their leaders have announced their intentions not to pursue candidacy. Aware that the world is paying attention, and that certain nations would leap at any opportunity to disparage the validity of these historic elections, Chairman Mstizinzar, on behalf of the Union of People’s Republics of Acaris, has invited any and all concerned nations to send certified election observers to verify the legitimacy of the vote. |
