The Eternal Hegemony of Republic of Callaxium

THE WAR OF THE NEAR CORE
HEGEMONICA | HEGEMONIC CORE SYSTEM | THE HEGEMONY

It was well known that the footage of the events on Xosa would cause quite the rumblings throughout the galactic core nations. Of course, while the other major powers seemed unoffended by the Hegemony's activities, some of the pesky smaller entities closer to the Galactic core would find the Hegemony's continued growth to be a threat to their power and stability. Thus an ultimatum would be sent to Hegemonica directly to Thrawn's desk demanding the release of Queen Aoe and the end of what they considered to be an illegal occupation of Fraxakia. However, what they did not seem to calculate was the major offense they had just committed against the Hegemony and the rising tensions that would come as a result.

Closed-door meetings would take place on Hegemonica. The Grand War Council would meet in silence to ensure that nobody caught wind of their activities. Meanwhile, the Midnight Fleet, having gotten word of the Core Nations actions, would prepare for further action. The Legislative Body of the Hegemony, the Hegemonic Council, would meet as well. These three bodies would speak on different matters though the major talking point was on what to do with the insolent Core Nations that dared try to question the Hegemony's authority. Though unbeknownst to the Hegemony it was clear that the Core Nations would not back down from their ultimatum, sending another notice threatening to take direct action if the Hegemony did not cede the territories.

In a meeting held on the planet of Ryx, the Capital of the Ilikite Republic, the aforementioned, along with the Rusoans, Juleiars, Pesrekanians, Octrovites, and Thenees, would form a new alliance known as the Near Core Confederation (NCC) which would declare open opposition to the Hegemony and its continued expansion in the Core Regions. The Hegemony in response would release a full-fledged condemnation of the alliance, with Hegemonic Officials calling out what they saw as shortsighted and emotional behavior from the NCC, seeing it as a petulant child not getting its way. Hegemonic military assets would be moved closer to the West of the nation, moving through the Fraxakian territories, still being rebuilt from the Fraxakian Pacification. This move would be noticed by the NCC who would begin moving their assets eastward in preparation for a potential attack. They were smart, having learned not to be too cocky like the Fraxakians had been when fighting a foe like the Hegemony. The Chairman of the NCC, Xo Kavala, would release a final statement on the matter reading as following:

"It is quite clear to us that within a matter of mere days the so-called "Hegemony" will begin a full-fledged invasion of our territories. Let it be known that this will not be an easy war for the Hegemony to fight and we will ensure that our forces are ready to fight to the bitter end to defend against an entity as bloodthirsty and monstrous as the Hegemony. We do not fear the Hegemonic Star, nor does it blind us this day. We believe in the ideals of national sovereignty and individual promise and we will never allow for the imperialists of Hegemonica to take away that spirit. Should the Hegemony choose to fire the first shot we will be ready for them, and we will win."

The statement would be widely ignored in the Hegemony, though members of the Grand War Council did note that the NCC was far better prepared for conflict than the Fraxakians had been, choosing to not be the ones to fire first. Instead, it would be the NCC, though not by means of their own will. Within the halls of the Hegemonic Organization of Research would come something rather interesting, an upgrade to the already rather omnipresent nature of the Military AI known as "Cetara" which would allow it the ability to not only hack into but now directly manipulate other AI forms up to its very likeness. This achievement was kept a secret within, only being shared with those in the utmost authority on the Grand War Council and the Imperator-Aeternus's Inner Circle. Though for members of HOR the rising tensions between the Hegemony and the NCC would prove to be the perfect moment for a test, one that would begin the biggest War the Hegemony has fought in thus far, The War of the Near Core.

AUGUST 8TH, 2713 CE
RI'IS SYSTEM | HEGEMONIC-ILIKITE BORDER | MILKDROMEDA GALAXY

An automated tradeship traveled through along the border of the Hegemony and the Ilikite Republic. Tensions on the border had been growing over the past few months after the formation of the Near Core Confederation and the Hegemony's subsequent movement of military assets through the region. The Ilikites were not stupid though, watching as the ship seemingly cleverly traveled right along the border, most likely a way to try and get them to fire first in their eyes. Though unbeknownst to them the ship was far from the main attraction for the Hegemony. Cetara's military assets had been expanded throughout the Fraxakian systems all the way to the border with the Ilikites. Today was an important day, a major test for Cetara's new capabilities. With the NCC forces on the border focused on the tradeship Cetara would make its move, beginning to scan out enemy vessels without their knowledge or consent, finding access to multiple military AI's being utilized by the NCC. It would choose one referred to as Ceros, a Pesrekanian AI that had a hand in controlling many of the automatic weapons systems on NCC ships. Cetara's control would go unnoticed by many in the NCC fleet, though at the same time, very few on the Hegemonic side even knew what Cetara was doing, the mission being done clandestinely to ensure perfection.

As the tradeship continued moving it was noted by observers on the Hegemonic side of the border that several of the NCC fleet's canons had begun aiming at the vessel. Reports of this were brought up to the commander of the Hegemonic Fleet, Admiral Eldris Akkon. Eldris had been informed of the plan but still would tell his men to prepare their own canons. Within mere seconds Hegemonic defenses were on red alert, Ion Canons readied and fighter jets prepped for take off. The two Hyperion Class Fleet Carriers in the distance by Ri'is itself would watch from afar, carrying reinforcements for what was to come. Meanwhile, within the NCC fleet, several ship operations crews had begun noticing that something was off with Ceros. The AI had gone entirely silent as if it had been switched off. Along with that, several of their Heavy Plasma canons had begun seemingly tracking the Hegemonic tradeship traveling along the border. They began trying to fix the AI's systems though nothing worked, they kept getting error messages. Suddenly the sound of a plasma canon firing went off. This was followed by silence and then an explosion, that of the Tradeship. As news of the shot reached NCC High command many began to sweat, the Hegemony still had not reacted in the few minutes since the incident but they knew something was to come. What could've happened even?

Back on the Hegemony's side Eldris smiled as Cetara informed him of the success. He saw the tradeship disappear from the radar, showing it had been destroyed. Then alarms would blare, a foreign entity had fired into Hegemonic territory. This was enough to start a war off of. Eldris would order fire be returned and within only mere seconds several Ion Canons would fire at the NCC Fleet on the other side of the border. Eldris would send a message to the NCC Fleet, informing them of the following:

"Attention foreign adversary. You have fired military rounds into Hegemonic Territory. Surrender now or face our wrath."

Information on the destruction of a trade ship would reach Hegemonica rather quickly. The Grand War Council was very pleased, as was HOR. Their plan had worked. While silence once more fell on the space of the Ri'is System the Hegemonic Council would quickly pass through a declaration of war on the Near Core Confederacy, sighting their blatant disregard for Hegemonic sovereignty and clear attempts to incite tensions between the two parties. There was no turning back now. Only seconds after this declaration was made the Ri'is System would turn into absolute chaos as further Ion Rounds were fired directly at the NCC Fleets, their shields being able to repel them how long would that last? Hundreds of thousands of Usoren Class Starfighters would be released into the stars, heading straight towards the NCC Fleet. Admiral Eldris meanwhile would also order Cetara to begin destroying what it could of the AI systems within the NCC Fleet. This meant that any hope of the automatic weapons systems used by the NCC Fleet would now need to be controlled manually as Usoren Classes made quick work of what they could, blowing up opening hangars and destroying weapons stations as they saw them. The result of these efforts meant that the NCC was unable to realistically put up a strong front in the first battle of the war, known as the Battle of Ri'is.

With the Hegemonic Victory in the Battle of Ri'is Eldris's Fleet would begin moving into the border territories of the NCC. Word would reach the Confederation Headquarters on Ryx quickly though, allowing for reinforcements to be ushered in and keeping the Hegemony locked in the border regions for some time. Though despite the NCC putting up a good defense, the Hegemony had already managed to capture 500 systems on the border, many of which were unpopulated but a few such as Joscra, Volx, and Rejin all held major cities that would be incorporated into the Hegemony, connecting these worlds and others with the Hegemony's vast military and trade networks. Admiral Eldris would call upon further forces within the Hegemony itself to assist him in pushing past the NCC Defensive line, which had won several victories against Eldris's forces at Ada-Rossa and Belixri. Eldris knew that even despite the Hegemony's advances, the nations of the Near Core Confederation were technologically capable themselves and very capable of developing strategy for what they lacked. Thus he knew that to win the war more resources would need to be sent his way. Already 2.5 million men had been lost, mostly being NCC losses but the 150,000 losses from the Hegemony showed the costs of war already bearing its rotted fruits. Already only a couple months into the conflict a river of blood had begun to flow through the Ilikite Border regions.

BELIXRI | NCC DEFENSIVE LINE | ILIKITE REPUBLIC

Further reinforcements would be sent to aid Eldris's fleet as it fought on against the NCC. This included the Fleet of Cloviara'a which was very adept at System Sieges and utilized the new Koron Class Fortress Destroyers in masse to ensure the enemy would not be able to destroy the Hegemony's assets. Further military command had also been allocated to the cause leading to the establishment of the Ilikite Military Governate, similar in nature to the Fraxakian one that had existed before, under the command of Admiral Eldris himself. At this point 2,500 systems had been taken, an entire oversector's worth in fact. While this was an achievement worth celebrating, this was only 2,500 out of a total of 75,000 systems within the Near Core Confederation. With the NCC Defensive line still holding strong as Ada-Rossa and Belixri, Eldris and his fellow commanders knew they'd need a major win to push the war forward.

At Belixri sat the bulk of the NCC's defensive fleet in the region. A successful push-through here would allow the Hegemony access to many of the NCC's important core Ilikite worlds. Under the command of Admiral Eldris and High General Beothwin Hakatrin, the forces of the Fleet of Cloviara'a and the Fleet of Avos, Eldris's Fleet, would begin to make their way towards Belixri. Of course, NCC sensors would note their movements, beginning to amass forces there in preparation for the fight ahead. As Hegemonic forces arrived the first thing the NCC Fleets would see would be several hundred Koron Classes coming out of hyperspace, their Ionized Plasma Canons and Coilguns ready to reign hell upon the enemy. Within mere seconds they would begin their fire, not even giving the NCC time to truly prepare for what was to come. Of course, the NCC Fleet was far larger than a few hundred Koron Classes, though what they didn't expect was for these ships to be so heavily armored. They were slow moving which made them easy to hit but it was almost like each hit did nothing to them, the ships continuing to move as if nothing had happened at all.

As the Koron Classes moved in, further assets would reveal themselves, most notably the presence of the two Hyperion Class Fleet Carriers and their escorts. The presence of these ships dwarfed every single ship in the NCC Fleet, their largest ship only being around 25% the size of a Hyperion Class. Within seconds swarms of Usoren and Aes Class Starfighters would descend upon the NCC fleet, dealing damage similar to how they managed to do at Ri'is. Of course, though the NCC didn't come unprepared, releasing their own starfighters and causing many of the Hegemony's to be distracted in dogfights and starfighter-to-starfighter combat. The Heavy Frigates of the NCC would also begin to focus fire on the Hyperion Classes instead of the Koron Classes, realizing that these were merely a distraction for them. However, this would be a major mistake as once fire lifted away from the Koron Classes they would begin unleashing Ion Rounds straight into the NCC Fleet. These rounds would do massive amounts of damage, shutting down shields due to the pure energy overload they created for them. This opened up much of the NCC fleet to direct fire which caused some of their ships to try and retreat to the Inner Systems.

After a while the NCC Fleet would finally manage to shut down the shields of some of the Koron Classes, causing some to fall back while a few had been destroyed by constant NCC fire. With the Usoren Classes specialty being dogfighting, it would be up to the Aes Class to begin dealing damage to the Heavy Frigates of the NCC Fleet, beginning to open fire upon them as Koron Classes shut down their shields one after another. The Cetara Warmind, while not being as useful as the NCC's Ceros AI had learned its tactics and managed to kick it out of its systems, still would help the Hegemonic Command move their forces through. It would see an opportunity through the defensive line as more and more NCC ships lost their shields, a massive Ion Scrambler Strike at the heart of the fleet.

The NCC Fleet was dumbfounded as Hegemonic Assets began to move back, though they took the advantage and began moving in, maybe the Hegemony was tired of this and ready to retreat? Though before they could call their forces back a massive white blast came from one of the Hyperion Classes, then another from the other ship. Within an instant thousands of ships would be destroyed. From Belixri itself massive white flashes could be seen from space followed by numerous explosions in the sky. The NCC Fleet had been utterly devastated by the strike, though the strike was dangerous to use and took out several thousand Usoren and Aes Classes as well. However, in the eyes of the Cetara Warmind the lives lost would mean victory for the Hegemony in the long run. The remnant NCC Fleet would quickly begin making their retreat from Belixri, heading quickly to Ada-Rossa to prepare for a final stand in the Outer regions. If this was lost then the Inner worlds would be at risk and from there the entirety of the NCC as well.

The War of the Near Core Begins...

(OOC Note: This is the first part of a major expansion I am undertaking on behalf of the Hegemony. A total of 2,500 systems to the our West have been taken so far with plans for 75,000 systems to be added to the Hegemony. The War of the Near Core is supposed to serve two purposes. 1) vastly expand the size of the Hegemony, 2) Provide a nice storyline that I think y'all will enjoy reading. Hopefully this meets quality standards necessary for expansion. Cheers!)
