History of Independent Kazakstan
On 16 December 1986 the first nationalistic protest took place in the then capital of Soviet Kazakstan - Almaty. The protesters were against the chauvinistic and imperialist policies introduced by Moscow. With a large number of casualties the attempt for a nationalist revolution was suppressed by the Soviet Occupation Army.Nevertheless, just after 5 years in on the very same day 16 December 1991, Kazak people declared their Independence from USSR thus becoming The Republic of Kazakstan.
People of the Republic of Kazakstan chose to build a secular state with Kazak as the official language.
The Memleket of Qazaq Eli literally translates to Kazak as - "The Land of Kazaks"
