Kitten’s Island is a small, peaceful island territory famous for its sunflower fields, fishing villages, and enormous population of free-roaming cats.

According to local tradition, the island’s cat population began with cats brought ashore by shipwrecked crews. With abundant food and few natural predators, their numbers flourished. Today, cats are treated as beloved community animals, and the island has developed a distinctive culture around their care.

The island has become a popular destination for ecotourism, seaside recreation, and cat tourism.

Cats are found throughout Kitten’s Island, significantly outnumbering its approximately 1,500 human residents.

Ginger and orange tabbies are particularly common and have become an unofficial symbol of the island.

Most cats are community cats rather than privately owned pets. Islanders maintain feeding stations, shelters, veterinary services, and spay-and-neuter programs.

Visitors are encouraged to allow cats to approach them rather than attempting to pick them up.

Kitten’s Landing is the island’s principal settlement and ferry port.

The village contains the island’s school, library, general store, veterinary clinic, harbor, community center, restaurants, lodging, and recreational facilities.

Cats routinely wander through the village and are generally considered part of the local scenery.
