Delegate's Update
By: Merlovich
G’day, and welcome to the August Edition of the EPNS! Another month is now somehow in the rearview mirror. It feels like yesterday I sat here writing for the July Edition, and here we are for August.
It’s been a relatively quiet month for us here in TEP. There’s some movement behind the scenes, but there’s little to update you loyal readers on in terms of government and regional activity. Things are humming along, and we’re continuing to endure the scheduled lull in activity that follows summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and winter in the south. My government continues its work on key projects, and while my attention remains divided between a tightening real-life schedule and the tasks of the delegacy, I remain enthusiastic about the months ahead and completing the tasks I set out in June. Next month’s edition will be the last of this term, and I hope to update you on what the government has accomplished in that time.
Despite a slump in endorsements site-wide, we’ve seen positive signs continue thru August, and with an endorsement week hosted by the Ministry of Endorsement Affairs a few weeks ago, we’ve seen another bump to those signs. I’m hoping to have these types of events continue into the future.
Our monthly Hunger Games was hosted alongside our feathered friends in The Black Hawks, and was won by Shadow, Admiral of the EPSA. We saw a fully booked contest of 48 contestants battle it out for the win, and as always it was a great time. Thanks to Shadow for hosting the event, even if it was definitely 100% guaranteed entirely undeniably truly rigged from the start.
Please enjoy another great edition, a special thanks to all who turned out and made the last edition the most read and upvoted one we’ve ever had. It’s your support and enthusiasm that makes EPNS the best newspaper on NationStates.
See you next month!

Thank You For Your Support
By: Altys
In the early morning of August 15th, the 37th edition of this very newspaper was published, and street vendors across The East Pacific immediately began distributing it nationwide. However, when the time came for global release, an unknown group launched a concerted effort to bury the edition under a barrage of downvotes. This sparked what would later be dubbed by the TEP Cabinet as "The EPNS Downvote War."
The Government acted swiftly, scrambling to coordinate a response. Calls for assistance were sent to allies and friends, while internal groups like Valsora and The Spice Girls were massively mobilised to rescue the edition from drowning. About 24 hours after the initial release, the dispatch finally regained positive ground after enduring an estimated 120 downvotes.
The struggle persisted throughout August 16th, as the score fluctuated rapidly. The edition stabilized at around 47 upvotes despite facing over 200 downvotes. At the time of writing, the dispatch has 68 upvotes and has become a testament to the Streisand effect, turning an attempt to suppress the paper into its most viewed edition of the new era, with over 4,000 views.
Below is a collection of pictures taken from the frontlines by war journalist Libertanny during the event. Before sharing these images however, I would like to extend my thanks on behalf of The East Pacific to the following regions for their invaluable assistance in the struggle to keep EPNS in positive upvotes. Whether directly requested or not, their members rallied to upvote the dispatch and ensure its visibility: Thaecia, The Augustin Alliance, The Free Nations Federation, The Alstroemerian Commonwealths, The Region That Has No Big Banks, The New Pacific Order (The Pacific), The Black Hawks, Kantrias, Refugia, Lair of the Dragon, The Brotherhood of Malice, The Communist Bloc, Eruditio, The individual members of the Anime Nations Against Liberals NDay faction

Magisterium Update
By: Pauline Bonaparte
The 62nd Magisterium entered its second month in August. August was slightly less busy than July but remained active. The Magisterium admitted four new members, passed one Concordat amendment, and began voting on another.
We ended July with 27 total Magisters. 22 are active, 3 are suspended, and 2 are on a leave-of-absence.
• Wazifara was admitted to the Magisterium.
• Mira/Ci Arovannea was admitted to the Magisterium.
• [A-2024-34] An Amendment to the Concordat was passed with 7 ayes, 1 nays, and 3 abstains and sent to the Conclave to schedule a referendum. This amendment would clarify the double jeopardy provision of the Concordat and reword the right to counsel.
• [P-2024-35] Admittance of Tom passed with 7 ayes, 2 nays, and 4 abstains.
• Pellantis was admitted to the Magisterium.
• The Magisterium began voting on another [A-2024-36] Amendment to the Concordat on August 30, with the closure of voting scheduled for September 6. This amendment would add a seat to the Conclave.

The Foreign Newsstand: Empress Xoriet, Fascist Tears, and AA Diplomacy
By: Aivintis
Hello and welcome to The Foreign Newsstand (TFN).
We in The East Pacific’s FA Watch are tasked with discussing and debating news of global significance within NationStates Gameplay. With an eye on the forums and the news reports of our allies, we see discussion on a wide range of interregional political topics, and I have used this perspective to create the Newsstand, summarizing the goings-on of NSGP.
TFN is fact-checked by TEP’s Foreign Minister, but nevertheless, I am human, and make mistakes. As such, I encourage people to reach out if there are factual errors, and I invite any NSer to reply in this thread adding any events I may have missed. It can help me figure out what my blind spots are, and ensure accountable, factual reporting. Furthermore, readers are encouraged to direct opinion statements to the threads relating to individual events.
Without further ado, here are the major events of August 2024:
Xoriet has taken the throne as Empress of the New Pacific Order, the first Empress in Pacifican history. This marks the end of East Durthang’s years-long tenure as Emperor, which has been marked by domestic and diplomatic reform. (August 1st)
UPC and Grea Kriopia have been re-elected as President and Vice President of Europeia, respectively. (August 3rd)
Operation Greek Fire has been conducted by the organizing Eastern Pacific Sovereign Army and chosen military partners, a griefing raid of the region Morpheus, which was designated a Do Not Defend due to its OOC history. (August 4th)
The High Court of Thaecia has elected Ashlawn as Chief Justice. With a full High Court and a Chief Justice to lead it, Thaecia has now succeeded in filling every essential role in its government following the adoption of its new Constitution. (August 8th)
Eruditio, a new region, has opened its NSGP forum embassy and announced its formation as a neutral, roleplay and community-oriented region without any military or ideological alignment. Many of its founders are former members of Astoria. (August 8th)
Alcris, a small region relatively unknown in NSGP, has been exposed for its founders use of disguised alt accounts and clean puppets to consistently rig elections in favor of himself and his party. Many regions have begun withdrawing embassies from Alcris in light of this reveal. (August 9th)
Robespierre, who lost the TNP Delegate election to Simone Republic in May, has released an interview The Northern Star had previously conducted with him in which he is heavily critical of Simone’s leadership and government, claiming his free speech was suppressed when the interview was not published in TNS. Robespierre, also known as Francois Isidore, had previously released a video criticizing Simone’s campaign during the election itself, and has now left The North Pacific. (August 9th)
SC Resolution #510 “Commend Dilber” has passed the World Assembly with a 85.9% margin. Dilber is a former Delegate and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the West Pacific, but also a World Assembly resolution writer himself. (August 10th)
The Rejected Realms August 2024 Officer Elections have concluded. Toerana, Mad Jack is Rejected, Cyptopir, and The Islamic Country of Honour were all elected to officer positions. Toerana presides over Off-Site Culture, ICH over On-Site Culture, MadJack over World Assembly Affairs, and Cypoptir over RMB Moderation. (August 10th)
The Realm of the Whispering Winds has transitioned back to a stronghold, ending vulnerability to occupations with Delegate Xvraks taking a previously CTE’d governorship. (August 12th)
The Crimson Crusaders successfully infiltrated NeoMajestia, taking down the fascist and transphobic government through an OOC-based griefing operation. (August 13th)
SC Resolution #511 “Commend The League” has passed the World Assembly with a 76.3% margin. The League, also known as The League & Concord, is a prominent defender region led by Quebecshire, who himself was commended by SC Resolution #490. (August 14th)
Gagium has ascended the Delegacy of The League, replacing Creeperopolis, who had previously served in that role for over two and a half years. Gagium has had a rough history in the League, but has ultimately become a trusted member of its community. In his statement, he promised to continue protecting the interests of The League and Defenderdom as a whole. (August 16th)
Following elections in Blue Ridge, First Minister Adkissa has appointed New Roksey as Minister of Culture and Basshobia as Minister of Foreign Affairs. (August 17th)
The Order of the Grey Wardens and the West Pacific have successfully raided the homophobic and fascist frontier Access The Axis in Operation Burning Pride. (August 18th)
The Dreamscape of Atlanticana has rebranded to a futuristic theme, renaming their judiciary and legislature to the Interstellar Tribunal and Stellar Assembly, respectively. The Oneiric Council remains the executive body. (August 19th)
Elections in Vibonia have concluded, with Maurnindaia ascending the Presidency, Hansa serving as their Vice President, and Auri winning the Speakership. (August 21st)

- Read dispatchPlease consider upvoting this dispatch in support of a free press in The North Pacific. Thank you!The Spotlight: An Interview with RobespierreWritten By: BrisdonNote: The following article was intended to be published as part of TNS Issue XXXVII. However, despite being approved by then-Minister of Communications Arawi beforehand, the interview was shut down by Simone Republic.
As such, I am self-publishing this section of what would've been TNS for your viewing pleasure.
Please enjoy!
Sky: Hello, readers! Today, we have a talented and renowned person from TNP here with us. He's a former Delegate and has worked in many cabinet-level positions over the years. Rather serving abroad as an ambassador for our region or commanding members of the North Pacific Army as a General, it's sufficient to say that he's done it all.
Most recently, he ran as a candidate for Delegate in the May 2024 general elections but lost to Simone. I can only imagine the innumerable questions the readers have about that, so let's ask from the man himself. Please welcome Robespierre!
Robespierre: Thank you for that warm introduction, Sky.
Sky: And thank you so much for the interview. How are you doing?
Robespierre: I'm doing well enough, I suppose. I've been taking on more hobbies to keep busy in real life, but I do still check in to see what's going on in TNP every now and then.
Sky: Ah, well then you must've seen this year's observation of Democracy Day. I would like to get your perspective, so you have any words for us about what democracy means to you or what the significance of that event is for the region?
Robespierre: The beauty of Democracy Day is how it means something different to everyone. For me, how I feel about it depends heavily on where I’m sitting when the time comes on any given year. Some might say that there’s still an ongoing struggle to protect the region’s democratic institutions from outsiders. Namely, the Brotherhood of Malice or any other organization from Raider Unity that might wish us harm. Personally, I think that struggle pales in comparison to the struggle that’s happening internally in terms of keeping positions of power appropriately staffed and keeping the spirit of a thriving democracy alive.
I may get a bit of flak for saying this, but democracy isn’t always my preferred form of government. In real life, sure, a people’s self-determination and all of that is very important. But on NationStates? I’m not so sure. It works for some regions and it doesn’t work for others. I obviously don’t want to witness the breakdown of the system that’s been built over the years, as most North Pacificans seem to enjoy democratic governance. In principle, I think that democracy on NationStates is a fine enough idea; but I cannot, in good conscience, willfully ignore its drawbacks.
This is a separate but adjacent issue to the preservation of North Pacifican democracy, but The North Pacific is a region that has more red tape and more opportunistic characters than perhaps any other region I’ve been involved with in the past nine years. We take ourselves so seriously and it’s a point of pride for some, but it’s that same seriousness and by the book approach that routinely leads to [unnecessary] headaches and drama. In a way, the region’s culture feeds off of it. Maybe some people like that and, if so, then fair enough. If that’s the case, then it must be suiting us just fine. But I think that we’ve had a lot more to be proud about in past years than we have to be proud about this year. It’s very disappointing. I can’t really comment any further because I didn’t participate in the Democracy Day festivities, nor did I order a pocket constitution as I normally would.
Sky: As you know, Simone has just completed his second month as Delegate and we’re now past the midterm mark. How would you rate his performance in the role thus far?
Robespierre: Well, I wouldn’t say that he’s done anything to really prove me wrong about him. I think that the people who he’s surrounded himself with have done most of the heavy lifting when it comes to mitigating some of his most troublesome qualities as a leader.
Of course, despite how vocal a critic of his administration I’ve been, there are members of his cabinet who I do have great respect for. Some names that immediately come to mind include Pallaith/Ghost, Kashovia, Prydania, and Dreadton. I’ve thought for a while now that Simone’s tenure as Delegate won’t be nearly as detrimental to the region in the long-term so long as he has people around him who know what they’re doing and who are willing to tell him no sometimes.
I’d say that every one of the people whose names I just listed fall into the camp of people who know what they’re doing. Prydania, in particular, has been very visible in his role as Minister of Culture since he was appointed after the dismissal of Nutmeg early last month. Pallaith/Ghost is the ever-present voice of restraint and reason in pretty much every cabinet that he serves in. He’s been that for a lot of people, including me during my time as Delegate in 2021.
Naturally, one of the main difficulties that comes with assessing any Delegate’s performance in the role is determining how much credit to give them for the successes and failures of their cabinet. Generally speaking, I think that things are left better off when Simone doesn’t touch them and when he leaves the running of the various ministries to his ministers. That’s just me being honest and I understand how not everyone would like to hear me say that. But I view the current situation, so take that for what you will.
I hear that the Ministry of Home Affairs has been hard at work, and if that’s true then I must recognize the effort that Skaraborg and his staffers have been putting into recruitment. But, without a proper midterm report being released as of yet, I have no way of verifying what progress has and hasn’t been made in various areas since I’m no longer part of the Executive Staff myself. The Ministry of Defense conducted a major operation of its own as of late, but outside of that they’ve been rather quiet.
Overall, I’d say that Simone has been below average for the position. He hasn’t suffered any horrendous missteps, but he’s been plagued by a litany of questionable moves and poor communication choices. As I’ve said already, I imagine that the reason why things haven’t gotten worse is due to the presence of some of his advisors. I really do think that they, in large part, are responsible for me being unable to rate him any lower than as solidly below average at this time.
Sky: I'm curious. Why would you say that you lost to Simone in the Delegate election? Do you think your campaign lacked substance, or was it something else?
Robespierre: No, it definitely wasn’t a matter of campaign substance. It was… in a word: populism.
It wasn’t so much that Simone was championing the people’s struggle against the corrupt elites or anything like that. It was more so that he emerged at a time where the only two other candidates were a lot more experienced within the region that he was/is.
If you ask me (and you did), there are always going to be a few North Pacificans who are so outspoken in their dislike of me and their disapproval of me doing pretty much anything in the region that I was never going to win them over. Realistically, it just wasn’t feasible for me and maybe it was an option for him at the very least. Truth be told, I may have earned some of that apprehensiveness. I certainly don’t believe that I deserve all of it and it does get to me every now and then. But I no longer try for those people, so it’s kind of a weight off my shoulders in a way.
There was also a stark contrast between how I approached my candidacy and how Simone approached his. I prefer to keep those kinds of aspirations a lot closer to the vest than he apparently does. That’s just my style, and I’d much rather work quietly with those who I trust than broadcast myself to my regionmates as being an option for leadership via DMs. That’s not a knock, by the way. It’s just something that I think really did end up shaping the race before it even got started. It was in that way that I lagged behind because of my refusal to do that.
Something I’ve only talked about briefly since the outcome of the election was announced is how much I dislike campaigning. I really don’t enjoy asking people for things and I have a hard time feeling comfortable when it comes to approaching citizens who I may or may not interact with regularly. That isn’t a dilemma that was unique to me when I was a candidate, but it is a factor that hindered me, nonetheless.
Campaign awareness is very important. It’s the difference between a citizen going out of their way to support a candidate and them not even knowing that said candidate is running. That’s why I’ve always done my best to make my campaign as visible as possible in every race that I’ve run in. Posting early with a clear and polished platform, making the platform into a dispatch, encouraging people to upvote that dispatch, posting about my candidacy on the RMB, holding a live town hall, and giving people the opportunity to engage and ask as many questions as possible. Those are just some of the things that contribute to citizens having good awareness of a candidate and being more likely to support them once the polls open.
In my mind, the race was always supposed to be between Dreadton and me. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If I were going to lose anyway then I think that Dreadton would’ve been the next best option. With that in mind, I could’ve very well treated Simone’s opposing candidacy more seriously than I did. Whether you agree with it or not, I felt like I shouldn’t have had to. I was, however, prepared to go up against Dreadton. But, when you’re a fresh face who approaches anyone and everyone and who is enthusiastic about all of these ambitious ideas that you have, people respond to that.
Dreadton and I couldn’t have been that given our histories, although I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I believe that the region should’ve preferred a more experienced hand who had more of a finger on the pulse of what could realistically be achieved this term. Even if that person didn’t end up being me, I don’t think that I seriously considered that it would be him at any point.
So that’s how that happened but let me be clear: I’ve never hid what I thought of my opponents from anyone, including Simone himself. I knew that he was running well in advance, and I figured that he’d back off upon seeing Dreadton and I’s campaigns. When he came to me with a draft of his campaign, I was honest with him and what I said more or less amounted to me having no confidence in his ability to assume the role. He didn’t listen to my feedback and the rest, as they say, is history.
Sky: Let's say you had been elected back in May. What would your first month or two as Delegate have looked like? What would you have done differently from what Simone has?
Robespierre: My cabinet would’ve been much smaller and more compact, for one thing. I realize that it’s kind of like beating a dead horse at this point, so I won’t relitigate what I’ve said before about the number of people involved in Simone’s administration. It is worth mentioning, however, that I wouldn’t have chosen to reestablish the Ministry of Radio as Simone has. Not during the usual Summer lull term, anyway, and certainly not when the region already has staffing issues.
Also, I would’ve worked quickly to ensure that things like the Civil Defense Siren and retaliatory recruitment were resumed as soon as possible. Those were both things that I addressed in my platform, specifically in the home affairs section. Recruitment for our own region is a noble and often thankless endeavor. But using recruitment as an offensive and retaliatory tool during wartime is something that I think would’ve been helpful.
Speaking of the war, it feels like it’s been put on the back burner as of late. I’m not sure if that’s true, as I haven’t really been paying close attention to gameplay, but I hear more about movie nights from culture than I do about what the NPA is doing to combat BoM and Raider Unity. To his credit, I really do believe in Picairn and his leadership potential. I just would’ve liked to see the NPA be more active as far as fighting on the frontlines with our friends goes.
Besides that, it seems to be business as usual in the WA. I’ll admit: I didn’t have any grand designs for that area, unless you count my wanting to pursue a fifth WA Symposium event as a key agenda item. As far as I know, that’s still something that’s in the works(?) I actually don’t know, and that’s probably because communication from this government has been a bit spotty.
My biweekly [war] reports idea would’ve sought to remedy that disconnect. I would’ve looked to follow through with that, but hindsight is 20/20.
Sky: I see. Well, since we're getting close to the end of the interview now, is there anything else that you would like to say or pass onto our readers? A message, perhaps?
Robespierre: My message is that you should participate in and support the region that you love no matter who leads it or which of your regionmates you disagree with on occasion.
I really do wish that I could take my own advice on this, but, sadly, I don’t think that’s possible right now. There are a lot of things that I could be doing but that I’m choosing not to. I’ve never wanted to let anyone down, but I also don’t want to lie to them either. I’ve sort of distanced myself from it all for now, and that’s my choice. It might’ve disappointed a handful of people in the short-term, but I don’t doubt that some were probably pleasantly surprised by my sudden disinterest in what all has been going on these last couple of months.
Maybe it’s a bit hypocritical of me to have that be my message when I’ve chosen to do the exact opposite. Granted, I still chime in sometimes. But I remain unwilling to actually do anything worthwhile for the foreseeable future. I can never force people to acknowledge me, accept me, or even agree with me. I can only continue to advocate for myself and those who might want to say the things that I routinely do.
That’s enough for me right now and it’s a symptom of my on-again, off-again fondness for regional politics. But just because it’s that way for me doesn’t mean that it has to be that way for you. NationStates is a game, after all, so it’s up to you to do what you find fun and only continue for as long as it remains fun.
Sky: Thank you so much for the interview. As a new guy working in the Ministry of Communications, it's quite refreshing to hear new perspectives. I really enjoyed our interview. I appreciate it.
Robespierre: No problem. I was a bit surprised when you asked me, but I'm happy to tag along all the same. Thank you for hearing me out.
Sky: That's all for now. Farewell readers!

- Read factbookAdvisor Report August 2024
And hello for the third time. Once again it's me, Ulmer, with the Advisor Report for Vibonia. This time about what shaped the entire month - the General Election of Vibonia in August 2024. This is the only topic in this issue as less has happened in the common summer hole. And as always, please beware of spelling mistakes and my horrible German wording, I am sorry.General Election August 2024
Birds fly across the cloudless, immaculate blue sky, happily chirping their beautiful songs. The sun shines on the beautiful mountain landscape that is Vibonia. The lake glistens in the marvellous evening sun and the shadow slowly spreads over the idyllic village in the valley. It brings coolness and peace and brings a gentle end to the lively day that characterises the people of Vibonia. Calm ...Flames flare up. Voices rise together in a collective grumble and birds startle again. The complete shadow of the mountains is broken only by the bright flames of gigantic torches on the village its walls. A large crowd gathers in front of the town hall ... What nature didn't know was that the Vibonian election was coming up and, as every five months, the most important positions in the village were being reelected.
The first and most important position is the President, the head of the Executive, the WA Delegate and the Lord of Land and Tasty Beer. The second position is the Vice. Head of regional security and successor to the President in special cases. The third and final elected position is that of Speaker, head of the important Vibonian parliament, the Assembly, responsible administrator for citizenship and citizen affairs, as well as for their priority checks in the citizenship application process.
These positions form the three major core positions of the regional administration and are the only directly elected positions in the region, and therefore carry exciting rights and duties. Above all, the president bears the major regional responsibility and has the ultimate decision-making power. The entire regional government works under him with the large ministries for internal and external affairs, as well as various smaller areas of responsibility. He is a person of the Vibonian public life and must represent a certain integration and representation in and for the people. The Vice-President is often underestimated in the background but bears great responsibility for regional security. The Speaker, on the other hand, is the head of the Speaker's Office and looks after the citizens. Internal Affairs such as checking, masking, processing of applications and supervision of Assembly discourses are his tasks. Equally important as the other positions, as Citizenship is the basis not only for the regional government but for Vibonia as a whole.
The General Election is conducted by the Supervising Election Commission, which announces the procedures and results following the Constitution. Vibonian elections are held every five months for a whole month. Regional business continues to be conducted in parallel. This year's Election Commission was Cloud and Ulmer alongside the Head Election Commissioner Nutmeg. And then on 1 August 2024, the Candidacy Declaration and Nomination Thread was opened and the elections could begin. During this time, citizens have time to decide their participation in elections, declare it or nominate others and finalise the last parts of their campaign. Or to start spontaneously.
After two weeks, the thread in our regional Discord was closed with the following results:
- Nominated for Speaker were Auri (GRlDDY), Kat (Tranquiliser-O7) and A T-72; Lemsrow declared his candidacy and entered the race for Speaker along with Auri and A T-72
- Nominated for Vice President were Hansa (Astroika) and Gojira, who declined; Saturn Military Administration declared his candidacy together with Neptune, who dropped out afterwards
- Nominated for President were Ulmer and Cloud, who had to decline as both were Supervising ECers, and Maurnindaia, who accepted; Vapia declared his candidacy, as did Epic (The New Ganges), who subsequently dropped out.In a now full town hall with several candidates, the voting booths were opened for a week. But first, let's take another look at the pairings and then at the campaigns and their content:
Running against each other were Auri, Lemsrow and A T-72 for Speaker, Hansa and Saturn for Vice President and Maurnindaia and Vapia for President. All but A T-72 and Saturn prepared a campaign. In a large and verbose campaign - which was also criticised - newcomer Auri stood for the position of Speaker. He not only emphasised his lack of experience, which he promised several times to make up for with stimulating active performances - something he also criticised in his predecessor Kat. He also mentioned his current curriculum vitae in Vibonia and skilfully used propagandistic advertising posters with Vote the Gote (also with an anime waifu character, very clever) for his case.
His direct rival (at least with campaigning) was Lemsrow, who in a campaign (with nice country ball, good art) established his walk from the more inactive and inexperienced shadow of Vibonia. He also emphasised his fundamental enthusiasm for the tasks ahead and criticised his predecessor very accurately.
Both were very rock-solid campaigns from enthusiastic newcomers to the field, with newly learnt knowledge of the constitution but no experience in their field of candidacy. Not so bad, because the Speaker's Office, especially with the possibility of experienced Deputy Speakers and mentors (ahem, Cloud/Ulmer), is extremely beginner-friendly and always the best for an initial candidacy. The only campaign for Vice President was offered by Hansa, who therefore almost had victory in his hands. Based on the extremely interesting campaign slogans of the Democrat Biden, Hansa used particularly nice rhetorical slips to liven up the text (he stuttered a lot). In terms of content, the Vice President spoke mainly about good ideas in regional security and for the Security Council, as well as about the current role of the VDF and its partly embarrassing and failed mission and the subsequent brief discussion between Ulmer and Maurnindaia in the Elba Island Situation.
Now to the two most important campaigns, Maurny's and Vapia's Presidency Campaigns. The former spontaneously finished his campaign three days before the voting thread and presented it to the public. With his typical humorous and dubious style, he answered a single round of questions in the election. In terms of content, he focussed primarily on the successful changes under his last term and critically reflected on the VDF's Elba Island operation and the subsequent establishment of the Ministry for Occupied Territories.
His rival Vapia published a more comprehensive and serious campaign much earlier and received many questions from it, especially as a newcomer. He presented a different picture and had some interesting new ideas for the ministries and the whole region - some were probably too revolutionary for voters who were more inclined to rely on Maurnindaia's previous experience and his origin as one of the founders and natives to the region. He spoke mainly about the VDF and the Elba Island Occupation, in which he was directly involved, including his past with Saint Helene in TNP, as well as the VDF organisation and his role as Minister for Occupied Territories. A nice Italian flair accompanied the campaign.Auri for Speaker
Hansa for Vice President
Vapia for President
Lemsrow for Speaker
Maurnindaia for PresidentOn 21 August the voting thread was closed and Head Election Commissioner Nutmeg published the following final result:

- Read dispatchHello all, it's good to be back! This is the first news dispatch for Anteria in GOD knows how long, and I am honored to be the one writing it. This issue may be rather bare bones, focused primarily on the big news of the past months, but worry not it will become much prettier in months to come that I can promise. Now onto the news proper, I believe these past three months, August especially, have been a turning point for Anteria, one that will lead to a revitalization in my opinion!Government
In terms of the government, there has been a small shakeup very recently, with the appointment of Shadoveil (yours truly) as the region's new Formic Artisan following the removal of La Riojania. There also have been discussions regarding changing the recruitment telegram as an attempt to increase our nation count! For July there was admittedly a small stagnation, however our new constitution was officially ratified early in the month and has been in effect since! Finally, for June, many changes were made this month. Starting off, the positions of First Worker, Nest Steward, Queen's Signaler, and Major Worker were made redundant as well as the short lived Roleplay Council being disbanded. These decisions were made with the intention of creating a 'smaller government with smaller aspirations' for the region. Later in the month, elections were held for the positions of Formic Artisan and Emmisant which were won by the aforementioned Riojania and Neuewland respectively. A lot of work in a small span of time, funny how that happens!Roleplay Updates
Unfortunately due to the span of time that this issue covers, the roleplay updates covered will be done with rather broad strokes. There have been two major events of note that have happened in the past months.First is the Anterian Worlds Fair being hosted in Volton, Riamo where many nations in the region will be showcasing their cultural heritages in the fair!
Next is the World Cup being hosted in Riojania (They must have a world record for their name being mentioned!) which will be a worldwide football event that will pit 24 nations against each other in a friendly competition!
Finally, some news for the future, an Anterian Winter Olympics will be hosted this February barring any circumstances that may prevent it, a host nation is pending and will be announced as the date gets closer.
A crazy three months in my opinion, and very productive! The roleplay events especially show a trend that I believe will lead us in a good direction! Look forward to the monthly issues coming! We will be including more sections, covering foreign affairs and regional statistics. And with that, I sign off. Have a good morning, day, or night wherever you are from your friend Foxclaw! <3

Interview with Aurora Yukihime of Albrook
By: Aivintis
This month on EPNS, I had the pleasure of speaking with Aurora Yukihime of Albrook, Delegate of Japan, World Assembly Commissioner of The East Pacific, my boss as the Commission’s SC IFV writer, and my predecessor as Delegate of The East Pacific. Her two terms lasted from October 2021 to June 2022. Her past roles within TEP include Editor-in-Chief of EPNS and Co-Chief Minister of Regional Affairs of TEP. Furthermore, she is a former Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Alstroemerian Commonwealths.
Aivintis: Thank you so much for agreeing to an interview! How are you doing today?
Albrook: Always ready to sleep!
Aivintis: That is so valid. Alas, the call of NationStates cannot be ignored . . . speaking of, you've recently come back to the government after a bit of a sabbatical. What led you to volunteer for the WA Commissioner role?
Albrook: The previous commissioner, Gem, inspired my return. Alongside her updates I'd share The Queue Ahead, as I did during my delegacy - a timeline of all the proposals in queue and subjectively "pending" quorum, as to begin conversation on them as soon as possible. When she left the role I put my hat in the ring to continue as the Commissioner in full, handling the announcements, votes, and conversation starting alike.
Aivintis: How do you like the job so far?
Albrook: It's the most fun when there's more going on, like every time the SC has something controversial among the voters trying to pass. It's certainly been a change too from when I used to do these same announcements and upkeep during my delegacy - there's been no less than 3 proposals in the GA queue since I resumed the role!
Aivintis: You've mentioned a couple things, but what other things about the World Assembly and your current office has changed since your Delegacy?
Albrook: Externally, there's certainly a lot more repeat customers writing a lot faster in the GA. I'm almost disoriented if somehow I go a week without raising another Simone or Ice States proposal up for vote. There'd be actual times during my delegacy when both queues would be empty!
Internally, I'm certainly glad each Delegate since continued with running the WA vote among the Hussars, now Citizens at large, on the main Discord server. It's also been interesting seeing my policy of the Delegate choosing to vote against the WAA recommendation, and deciding executive rules on when to do so, was so unpopular that each Delegate since made it a point to campaign specifically that they wouldn't deviate from the recommended vote. I do miss the regional poll though, especially if there's been such sporadic poll activity since, and my detractors back then accused me of hogging space folks would actually use for Culture.
Aivintis: How difficult is it to keep on top of the changing votes? Do you feel as if expanding to polls once again would be relatively manageable to maintain?
Albrook: We haven't had too many big switches, other than whatever was going on with "Injunct Arkana Coalition" - some voters wanted to play flip for fun, which cool, but yeah I remember from the before times we'd never exactly do better than splitting the on-site vote 50/50 by switching. My WA isn't in the region anymore so I don't always have the optics there.
As for polls, they were nice - we often think to overlook the RMB for a lot of things for regional security. What was funny to me back then is we were saying this while a maximum of 3 people were deciding how TEP voted in the WA wholesale in prior delegacies, in the hidden WAA-only Executive Discord channel. How could we possibly end up worse than that?
It was also nice to include those TEP regulars who won't go forumside, and are just categorically left out of TEP's WA decisions. That always felt worth trying to coordinate poll timing without being too jank, and I'll allege still brought as much activity to the polls section as voting which toothpaste is best. Just because more folks can vote in open polls on whatever doesn't mean they weren't acknowledged by the ineligible others.
Aivintis: Perhaps something you can consider proposing to the Delegate again, then. While we're on the subject on your Delegacy and change, how else is the region different now to about two and a half years ago, when your Delegacy was in full swing? Apart from the World Assembly.
Albrook: There are far less grapes, and the haha thereof.
I'd say since my time folks around TEP have changed. It wasn't unusual for scheduling with Culture to be a challenge, as "oh we're partying with Thaecia then" and "that's when the NS Christmas Charity Fundraiser is, and Harry Potter's right afterwards!", and the whole business and interest we had going on with Cool Name Minecraft Server. We got busy, myself and TEPers included, and politics changed for the worse. We jam it up often during N-Day with ANAL and with our Hunger Games, but either we're all busy or our buddies' interests have changed. I suppose this is the final accumulation of gameplay politics - we need to entertain ourselves, like a cat while the owner's at the store.
Everything's still shaped the same and about as active as I left it. Folks getting busy certainly was a thing during my time too. That can't be helped, so I'm mostly just upset at how political everything became, when we have and will always continue to be about the friendship and memes.
Aivintis: You mention shifting gameplay politics, and their effects on culture. How do you think they've affected other aspects of government, especially your job in the World Assembly?
Albrook: Surprisingly I think WA's changed the least in response to the politics - since my delegacy at least. The same effective mantras and political responses then, like during Repeal Commend Souls, are still in effect now even today with Commend The League. I do echo the sentiment now that every raid certainly backs up the SC now with Injunctions being a thing.
Aivintis: How do you feel TEP is navigating this environment?
Albrook: Same way we always have and will. With as many memes as possible and the determination to make the best of it. The only problem's that "everyone's busy" part I mentioned prior. Otherwise if that wasn't a thing I'd be telling you how much of a slam dunk Hanami Matsuri 2 was right now :p
Aivintis: Shifting focus for a bit, in the past, there's not been much success getting TEPers recognized by the Security Council. Even less success has been found cultivating native authors for the SC and the GA. Is this something you feel like we should be focusing on? If so, what actions can we take to nurture authorship and recognition?
Albrook: I'd welcome it on behalf of the Commission, but don't personally have the experience or deeper connections to make that possible myself. I have consistently offered my Deputy Minister slot to anyone willing to take that on, if not the Ministry itself, back when the Commission was World Assembly Affairs and encompassed the WA at large.
Native authorship, I feel, would need to compete against that "everyone's busy" sentiment I have - not too much of a topic shift there. Not to mention I recall you've some run-ins with GP politics with your most recent SC campaigns yourself.
Ideally I'd love the focus, but don't see it happening barring individual effort from a current or future staffer, and quite possibly the next person you'd call some sort of WA Minister with our new structure.
Aivintis: Some have argued that, as long as TEP authorship remains limited, the best thing we can do is maximize our vote and voice in the World Assembly. Do you agree? How has the Commission maximized our vote and voice in recent times?
Albrook: I believe this is true. Each of the WA Commission's votes begin as soon as I subjectively believe a proposal's stabilized - after accumulating so many endorsements, and/or having a TG campaign. This ensures voting and conversation can happen early and continuously. As long as we've anticipated a proposal, this enables our Delegate to stomp with a prepared and informed vote - with this, the regional vote tends to align with the delegate's and we could - using the old numbers from my Delegacy - magnify TEP's voice often 150%, neglecting our high endorsement account on the worldwide "lemming effect".
I also continue to thank Endorsement Affairs, the Hussars of the East, and Praesidum for encouraging our new citizens to enable in the WA, as to be more manpower behind this desired on-site effect from our votes and stomps.
Aivintis: To what degree do you think our vote can influence foreign affairs, and vice versa? You mentioned earlier how following Delegates – I admit, me included – campaigned on refusing to go against the internal WA vote. Do you think this puts us in a weaker position abroad, since we can't partake in vote trading, which is a commonly cited method of power projection?
Albrook: It could permit backroom deals, like the vote trade, yes. That could be both virtuous and corrupt, and I see why many Delegates were most concerned about the corruption aspect. It also let me have a powerful retort to even our toughest FA customers - I would share "this extraordinary number of people say no", or "you know, we're not entirely convinced - tell us more and I'll share for the voters to decide, or maybe you'll convince my vote if I want to decide or intervene."
In those interactions I could share more and give FA and our future vision more of a say in the vote, instead of us just hoping enough people happen to agree on votes that matter like this. Did I mention we flipped on a recent Injunction for the lulz?
Aivintis: Yeah, it's definitely a balance to maintain, and I think specifically the stance I took was that sharing FA-relevant information could help influence voters towards a positive outcome for us and our allies. The World Assembly is a strange intersection of regional politics, military politics, and the unique community politics the WA has created – take one step into the GA channel on the WA server and you have a 50/50 chance of being overwhelmed with an expert population it is very hard to keep up with. Speaking of the GA – we've seen in the current environment that these proposals are less controversial, less discussed, and more frequent than Security Council proposals. What are your thoughts on this internal split within the WA? How does it affect your job and do you think it's a good thing that less discussion and thus less controversy occurs in the GA field within TEP?
Albrook: You just reminded me too of a difference between now and then. When we redesigned the Discord vote to use a Forum Channel system instead, we opened vote visibility a lot more. I was going to fix it, then authors like Simone and The Ice States were responding our threads, and the votes have stayed clean. Us and Praesidium keep a watch for anything funny there, since just like all of our past system we can see who's voting and detect any vote stacking. That's probably an important thing - maybe in my "power projection" scenario if they're around our Discord maybe they'd already know our direction and feeling.
Back to your question - that's where I think the authors themselves have a role in their activity. I didn't want to kick them out if they're addressing our voters' concerns with more info or rebuttals. That's more information for a more informed TEP in the GA.
I think also the SC's more personal to a lot of our voters, barring GA legislation on LGBT+ topics in my experience. R/D is personal to folks, and that reflects in their votes. The GA on the other hand, who really has a personal feeling about funnily named chemicals, budgets, and professional licenses? Not as much. If there's any personal feeling in there someone just really didn't like the author and wanted to share.
With more discussion could come that personal connection, with ones personal politics, and - hell if nothing else - analysis on the authorship team for whether TEP wants to support or not. Really, unlike the SC, I feel there's less consideration overall there, and despite there being over a month of queue time to see them coming there's just so many it'd probably be exhausting to evaluate each and every one to the degree we do the latest commendations.
Aivintis: Do you think this is a systemic problem in the GA or a simple lack of interest from TEP?
Albrook: The latter is certainly a factor. I'm not sure if our experience is the norm for how regions approach the GA.
Aivintis: If you'll allow me to yap for a second, I think it's actually kind of strange. I mean, we're an RP region. Both of our maps have WA-equivalents. We have a large population interested in the running of nations. In our various RP wikis, people can go into immense detail on similar things to GA proposals. And yet GA proposals themselves aren't as interesting. I wonder if it's either a failure of integration of TEP into the WA community or a failure of integration of TEP RPers into TEP government.
Albrook: I've never not seen RP and government be like oil and water respectively, even visiting around as one of TEP's ambassadors. Believe me - don't bring any sparks near the oil.
Aivintis: Ha, fair enough. I think it's about time for a fun question – what's been your favorite GA and SC resolutions since you took over as Commissioner?
Albrook: 'd be lying if I didn't say "Condemn Bogus Not True Fake Town" for my SC pick. The WA Commission LeBron Shames all the delegates who didn't approve that masterpiece, and that TG campaign that accompanied.
Similarly for the meme I think I'll also say "Repeal "Forced Blood Sport Eradication Act"". We gotta keep our Hunger Games' ratings high and let the deaths continue!
Aivintis: Those are the objectively correct answers. I'm not sure if it was within your tenure but my favorite SC Declaration is All We Want for Christmas Is You. Sadly, the WA Elite are talking about a repeal soon. Breaks my heart.
Albrook: Certainly to make way for a better proposal for Padoru, right?
Aivintis: We can only hope. Alright, I think I've taken up enough of your time. Before we leave off, are there any final comments you have on the WA, your position, or your old Delegacy?
Albrook: MERLO IS HIRING! As we mentioned conversation's always good, and you just simply gotta follow along with the WA Notifications in the TEP Discord to discuss the latest proposals there. You might've seen every now and then we publish Information For Voters, an IFV, recommending a vote for the ministry - we're always looking for folks willing to spare a few words to reason out our votes there, with coverage now on the big hitters in the SC and no IFV coverage at all in the GA. Certainly as well if you've some idea on authorship and commending someone from back home we can get some work space and opinions for you before you hit the forums - best we can with who and what we got.
I'm very satisfied and thankful with the executive direction since the Delechama. I always liked that name - behind every great leader is their waifu after all. I wonder who yours and Merlo's is...
Bodyguards in suits crowd Aurora and begin dragging her away.
Aivintis: Hahahaa whaaat, time to go! Thank you again for agreeing to the interview and thank you so much readers for tuning in! I'm sure she'll be fine.
A gunshot is heard.
Aivintis: Haha. Have a wonderful day!

NPO and TEP Relations: The Past and the Future
By: Aivintis
On August 1st, Emperor East Durthang of The Pacific announced his abdication from the throne of the New Pacific Order, naming Xoriet as his replacement. [1] Prior, Xoriet had served as NPO Community Director of Human Resources and Senior Moderator, and an Advisor in the NPO Senate. [2] Of note to East Pacificans, Xoriet is a former Delegate of The East Pacific and Overseeing Officer of the Eastern Pacific Sovereign Army, service which, among her other achievements in NS, earned her a Security Council Commendation in 2018. [3]
In these changing times, The East Pacific and The New Pacific Order can look back on a long history of evolving foreign relations. This month marks the nine year anniversary of the current embassy between The Pacific and The East Pacific, its oldest standing GCR embassy. [4] In this time, The East Pacific has grown significantly and experienced a region-changing coup d’etat event, while The Pacific has, under the guidance of four Emperors [5], thrived while the Anti-Pacific Coalition has declined and hostilities with other GCRs have ended. [6]
In the past nine years, Xoriet has not been the only member of both regions. Former TEP Delegate Libertanny [7] and former Grand Vizier and Delegate Dragons Blood [8] are notable dual-citizens who have held high offices in TEP, and our former Overseeing Officer and Vizier Greyghost is now an Advisor within the NPO Senate. [9] The propensity for cross-membership is so prevalent that it inspired the joking title of the current Pacifican-East Pacifican treaty, The Horticultural Arrangement [10], based on the ‘Garden of Plants’ meme. [11]
The Horticultural Arrangement was not the first treaty The East Pacific and The Pacific had signed, but was a rewrite and expansion of The Pacifican Amity Treaty, which Fedele had weakened as Delegate. [10] In the past, other treaties had been signed and dissolved, as well, marked by the contentious history of the New Pacific Order. [12] However, this history ultimately did nothing to damage the reputation of the NPO in TEP’s eyes, which was declared our best ally in a 2020 opinion survey of TEP residents by then-Delegate Libertanny. [13]
In the war between the NPO and the Anti-Pacific Coalition, in the days of “NPO Delenda Est,” The East Pacific stood by the oldest feeder, refusing to close relations once again and committing to its valued ally. [14] Similarly, the NPO proved a staunch ally of The East Pacific, and a reliable friend, coming to the aid of its partner during the 2019 coup d’etat attempt by Fedele – through military support [15] and a strong public statement [16] condemning Fedele and standing with the legitimate government of The East Pacific.
Outside of our crises, our camaraderie shined in record-breaking military operations in which we stood side by side, such as the Raid of Genua [17] and Operation Boom Beach. [18] Our connections deepened in cultural events such as the Festival of the Blossoms [19] and Pacific-Con. [20] Our past is storied and deep. The Pacific and The East Pacific have stood arm in arm in years past.
However, that relationship has not nearly been as close in the nearer past, as the military operations and cultural festivals in which TEP and NPO used to collaborate have become less and less common. Furthermore, in response to the aggression of the Brotherhood of Malice, the NPO signed Pax Polaris Occidens with the West Pacific and The North Pacific in 2022, which was framed as a framework for feeder security cooperation, without the involvement of the South Pacific or The East Pacific. [21]
This was especially complicated considering the full breakdown of relations between TWP and TEP which shaped years of tension between the two [22] and did not get any easier with the (admittedly less explosive) repeal of the North-East Security Treaty between TNP and TEP. [23] This could be easily interpreted as a shift in NPO’s Foreign Affairs priorities. Looking back on the way TEP committed to alliance upkeep – or didn’t – in the months before this shift, it is difficult to blame the NPO for hedging its bets with a change in direction.
Looking to the future, we must learn lessons from the past. When TEP and NPO work together, little stands between us. However, alliances are not maintained by sheer force of momentum. Effort must be continuously inputted from both sides. When we’ve seen that effort, we’ve thrived. Festivals, joint operations, and cross-membership are just a few markers of that success. Perhaps the new Empress in NPO is a sign for TEP to work towards restoring our previous state of relations. If it is to be a new era for the NPO, let us strive to make it an era where they can again count on The East Pacific through thick and thin.

[15]
Hi all,
It has now been roughly a month since I sent a survey to the region for gathering feedback about how we can better design regional events, activities, and information. With the responses having ceased trickling in, it is now time for us to look at and discuss the results. But before I get to that I wanted to take the opportunity to make some reflections about the New Pacific Order's progress in 2019 and our goals for 2020.
2019 was a year of reflecting upon and exposing problems stemming from past paradigms, of questioning ourselves and our processes to see where we can improve. It was a year of finding cracks in the pavement, filling some and contemplating how best to approach filling others. Of developing an unprecedented bold and entrepreneurial vision for our future and the betterment of the community we all share together. A vision for a new decade. 2020 marks the beginning of turning that vision into reality.
2019 In Review
Foreign Affairs
2019 had a turbulent start diplomatically, with the fallout from our previous administration's controversies still in full swing. As the year wore on hostilities dwindled down to a just handful of remaining parties, lingering due to their pride and specters of the past.
We canceled our St Abbaddon protectorate treaty.
Embassies were re-established with The North Pacific, The South Pacific, and Balder and we began to reopen diplomatic activities abroad.
We issued a statement in support of our ally The East Pacific and helped liberate their region from an attempted coup.
Finally at the end of the year we launched a foreign affairs Discord server to avoid cluttering up our main one with embassy channels.
Domestic Affairs
With input gathered on our regional forum we drafted and later enacted a new charter for our government. An elected representative government position was later created to increase transparency, communication, and represent the interests of our members. The first election was held in March and the second in September.
The province system of grouping nations alphabetically into sub-communities was abolished in favor of treating Pacificans as first-class citizens of one community, rather than relying on multiple inconsistently managed separate ones. Early development began on a trading card initiative and revised university program to facilitate education about the game as well as regional structure and history. The region's World Assembly resolution advisory and authoring committee was reinvigorated and relaunched.
We ran 22 events for both residents and citizens ranging from a RMB Q&A to Thinkgames to the Koreaboo Takeover to art features and more. Plus an additional 6 citizen exclusive events ranging from creating a cookbook to a pet photography contest to scrabble games. That's an average of roughly one event every two weeks and quite possibly the most events run by any region throughout the course of the year. To facilitate this a new culture department began to take shape.
2019 was the first year in recent history where we released an issue of our newspaper during almost every month of the year, with a total of nine issues published: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9
Defense
Our military, the Legio Pacifica, had a very active year, conducting a total of 250 operations, both large and small. Several particular highlights include participating in the liberation of The East Pacific from couper Fedele and helping multiple other regional militaries defeat the fascists attempting to protect The Iron Confederacy. The LP also liberated Xoriet's catnip from the clutches of Elegarth and his hugger brethren.
Throughout the year extensive efforts were made to both craft educational material and train up a new generation of military commanders and soldiers. The command hierarchy of the Legio Pacifica was revamped and split off from its former convoluted union management between several departments. A standardized format was established for recording the results of operations as well as performance metrics for our soldiers and military commanders.
These efforts paid off and the Legio stands today capably outfitted for its growth to continue and as a role model for the environment we aspire to nurture throughout the rest of the region's departments and jobs.
Survey Results, Analysis and Commentary
We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of survey responses we received. There were ninety-two submissions. Give yourselves a pat on the back! If you joined within the past month or simply missed the survey telegram fret not, we will be conducting additional surveys on other topics in the future, in addition to some more specific to some of the topics which were broadly covered by this one.
Without going into too much detail and ruining the surprises in store for late in the year, I can say that we have several things planned to make issue answering and being an active contributing member of the region more engaging and purposeful. You'll just have to wait and find out!
There was an almost 50-50 split in answers for whether people participate in roleplaying. What I found particularly interesting here is that just over a third of all respondents answered that they've being RPing since prior to coming to NationStates. The feedback to this question raises many further questions for consideration as to how we can improve our roleplaying community. Since some many people answered that they started RPing prior to creating there nations, what types of RP do they like doing? Are those who don't RP at all doing so because they don't want to or due to a lack of knowing what to do? We'll see about delving into these questions and more with a dedicated RP survey.
There were not any surprises in the answers to this question. Ultimately a combination of utilizing all available mediums will always be best for distributing information across a wide audience.
The good news: we'd like to create an extensive collection of information dispatches in all of these categories. The bad news: we want to first mostly finish implementing tweaks to our government structure, adjusting the roles of various positions and departments they belong to, and creating some new positions and departments. It would not make much sense to go to the effort of drafting dispatches up only to need to make substantial changes to them within a relatively short time frame. We are, however, getting quite close to the point of not having to worry about that anymore and the dispatch drafting project will likely begin to take shape within the next few months.
Some of the more popular interests and/or hobbies submitted, in no particular order, include: gaming, music (K-pop, power metal), politics, sports, technology, writing, roleplaying (D&D), history, and movies/television (Star Wars, anime).
Some of the most frequently mentioned activity/event/competition suggestions submitted, in no particular order, include: the card programme, awards, trivia games, statistics leaderboards, expanding RP, and encouraging more WA voting.
This is something else I think we'll be holding more future surveys about. What interests people have, and more importantly, share is a very broad concept to evaluate and analyze so that we may come up with related things with a moderately sized audience to whom they appeal. Of the above hobbies and interests, most, such as gaming, music, sports, history, etc., have a multitude of different subcategories. As far as the activity/event/competition suggestions go, all of the aforementioned ones are on our roadmap of things to do.
We'll have to work towards improving these.

In January 2019, Delegate Fedele requested that the New Pacific Order accept modifications to the TEP-NPO standing pact. The New Pacific Order, out of respect to the Delegate’s stated wishes and to our ally's desire to streamline their existing Foreign Affairs agreements, accepted the changes and the treaty was modified. However, this change did not alter the signatories recognized by the initial treaty: The New Pacific Order, legal government of The Pacific, and the Concordat-legitimized Confederated East Pacific.
The Concordat of The East Pacific states that elections for Delegate are to be held three times a year and an elected Delegate serve for four-month terms before the next elections. These elections are now over. The result finalization has left Marrabuk as the Delegate-elect. As such, Marrabuk is recognized as the legitimate voice of the region unless the Conclave rules that an election complaint filed by second-place candidate Davelands is valid and re-doing the elections is the next step.
The meat of the situation is that at Major update of October 13th, The East Pacific saw the illegal banjection of Vizier Bachtendekuppen and the ejection of Vizier Todd McCloud by Fedele and Funkadelia. Minor update of October 14th saw the banjection of Delegate-elect Marrabuk, and the attempted ejection of Vizier Aelitia by Fedele. These actions are against the law of the Concordat. They also coincide with multiple deliberate law violations committed by Fedele and his friends, namely in this instance Davelands and Funkadelia.
These law violations include:
The unlawful ejections of Todd McCloud and Aelitia.
The unlawful banjections of Marrabuk and Bachtendekuppen.
Removing the endorsement cap from the World Factbook Entry.
Removal of the Viziers from the Regional Officer positions (ruled illegal by the Conclave).
Encouraging multiple people in The East Pacific to break the endorsement cap to provoke the Viziers.
Other actions taken that should be condemned are:
The deliberate endotarting of Davelands, who violated the endorsement cap under the orders of Fedele.
Fedele forcing Todd McCloud to eject Davelands to drain his influence purposefully.
Planning to undermine multiple members of the region to consolidate a hold on power.
The New Pacific Order strongly condemns these actions that undermine the legitimacy of the Delegate seat of The East Pacific and violate the spirit of the laws by which the region has operated since the formation of the current government after the coup by Empire in 2008. Marrabuk as Delegate-elect is recognized by the Senate of the New Pacific Order as the legitimate intended Delegate of The East Pacific.
The New Pacific Order has been asked and answered the call to deploy our troops to combat the unlawful coup orchestrated by Fedele and his companions and support the Delegate-elect, Marrabuk. These actions to support The East Pacific when called by the Viziers and Delegate-elect are wholly supported by The East Pacific’s own laws and are thus, contrary to Funkadelia’s claims, not indicative of anything resembling a hostile foreign takeover of The East Pacific. Requested by Viziers and the Delegate-elect, support of the legitimate law-abiding government is entirely legal by The East Pacific’s laws.
We have chosen to respond to the call of our allies in a time of need rather than sit back and watch the region burned by a rogue Delegate and his couper allies. The New Pacific Order committed to the course of recognizing regional sovereignty after the events of last year. While actions taken by Fedele up until last night were recognized by us purely an internal matter and no support had been requested at the time, we respected that sovereignty. Now the sovereignty is threatened by a rogue Delegate and we respond to the call to preserve The East Pacific against a coup.
Signed on behalf of the New Pacific Order,
Ruler of East Durthang
Emperor of the New Pacific Order
Delegate of The Pacific

On the Major Update of May 15, 2021, the newly founderless Nazi region Genua was raided. Earlier that day, the Moderators had puppetswept the founder of the region and left it vulnerable to invasion. They also destroyed several other major bastions of Nazism. Genua, which had managed to land on the radar of more Gameplay regions than the average Nazi region through their tendency to gloat about using major regions as jump points for random, occasional one-operation update tag raids, quickly became a uniting force for twenty-four militaries, many of whom would never work together under normal circumstances. The point nation for the operation, Mallorea and riva, had 121 endorsements at the peak and 115 WA nations including the point made the jump to Genua, shattering the previous updater record in moderns time by nearly 20 endorsements.
May Genua as a trophy stand testament to the unity of NationStates against the plague of Nazism and fascism. All major regions will unite under the banner of anti-fascism, regardless of ideology, politics, or personal feelings.

Courts and Justice ▲ Upvote ▲
By: Aivintis
Apart from the NAC, which is the apex court of the country and the only appeals court, all courts are confined to regional jurisdictions based on local governments. Each city or county has their own local court in each of judicial track. The number of judges in each local court is based on population and set by an order of the Director of Justice. In order to maintain judicial independence, local leaders do not play a role in the appointment of judges.
The Director of Justice directly appoints all local judges for both tracks, although as in all formal governmental powers this is derived from the delegation of the Chief Director, who may himself choose to appoint, reject, or remove any judge in any track. Judges for the National Appeals Court are personally appointed by the Chief Director, in order to protect the impartiality of the tie-breaking vote. Apart from the Director of Justice, there are six appeals judges, three from either track.
To serve on the National Appeals Court, an appointee must have served ten years as a local judge in the relevant track. To serve as a local judge, one must have a bachelor’s degree in Law and a license to practice law as an attorney. Local judges are forbidden from sitting in the same county or city as they live and forbidden from taking cases involving any individual whom they personally know. Specialized training for impartiality, fairness, and sensitivity is required by law. All judges serve for life terms and compensation is strictly regulated by the government.
Any citizen may petition the NAC for review of a verdict, which the NAC can choose to accept or reject, and then rule upon in order to institute binding precedent on the lower courts. In this sense, the Directorate operates on a common law system, but codified law is comprehensive in criminal cases and little judicial discretion is permitted in order to prevent the courts from becoming too powerful. The NAC does not have the power of judicial review, but the civil court track can review lawsuits against the government or a government branch or agency.
The Department of Prosecution is a government organ which oversees criminal prosecution across the Directorate. Unlike federal systems of government, since the Directorate is a unitary state, the national Department of Prosecution oversees all prosecution of all crimes on all levels in all parts of the country. No local government administration is empowered with prosecution. The Superintendent of Prosecution is granted special autonomy in order to maintain the Director of Justice’s impartiality on the NAC, and is appointed by the Chief Director for that reason.
In contrast, the Department of Attorneys is much smaller in contrast, serving as the public defender system of the Directorate. This service is free for those who are unable to afford representation, determined by law based on an individual’s yearly income, but only for criminal defense and lawsuits in which the individual’s life or human rights were in threat. For all other cases, the Department of Attorneys continues to offer services at a price for legal representation, netting additional income for the government.
The legal services industry, however, is highly successful, especially in the corporate sector. Large law firms can be involved in both criminal and civil trials, as well as advising on the structure and language of contracts and on any decisions a company might take which may result in lawsuit or prosecution. The high end nature of the industry makes the Department of Attorneys less profitable overall, but makes their services more desired by the lower class, who cannot afford the prestigious firms.
In criminal trials, the standard for conviction is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime occurred and sentencing is based on the severity of the crime as well as the harm directly caused by the specific event. In civil trials, the standard for providing compensation to a plaintiff is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that an action was knowingly taken to cause harm and succeeded in causing harm. When civil trials deal with appeals of government decisions, the standard is more vague, and the courts are empowered to determine whether a department or agency violated its mandate, binding regulations, or the principle of fairness and meritocracy.
The prison system of the Directorate balances rehabilitation with punishment, and employs social workers in equal numbers as prison guards. Violent and nonviolent criminals are separated from each other in order to preserve peace and order. In recent times, a number of civil rights court cases have come about for the lack of funding some prisons in rural areas receive, which has led to an indiscriminate decline in conditions for inmates. The government has taken some steps to address this, but it remains a problem.
In August 2034, amidst growing tension between government Directors, the Chief Director temporarily redirected certain civil cases into a Special Administrative Court under his personal jurisdiction, maintained by judges he personally selected from the civil track and overseen by his Chief of Staff. The cases that were funneled into the court were all those which involved disputes between Directories. This was to prevent any decision from appearing biased, due to the Director of Justice’s involvement in the brewing political debate.

BREAKING NEWS: New Westmorean Government Covering Up Human Experimentation Crimes
By Giorgi Ferri and Jason Bellone (10/8/2034)
Top: Supposed Leaked Images of Brainstem Implants Sanctioned By The Hart Regime That Was Covered Up By The Esther Administration. |
New Westmore: The Government of New Westmore under the leadership of Esther Lynn may have been actively covering up illegal human experimentation trials first conducted under the previous Hart regime, according to a bombshell investigative report by journalists for The Malvekian Herald. The investigation, in cooperation with journalists from The Dalesburg Chronicle and whistleblowers from within the New Westmorean Government, has revealed hundreds classified documents, images, and reports regarding the illegal human experiments sanctioned by the fascist Hart regime before its timely demise. This shocking revelation comes as the Esther administration struggles to rebuild New Westmore's image on the global stage, and serves as a dark reminder of the tyrant that is Christian Hart and the impact of his brief yet tyrannical rule. Under the codename 'Project NMWGauze', the experiment entails the kidnapping of tens of thousands of unsuspecting New Westmorean citizens during the Hart regime. These human 'subjects', many of whom political dissidents or members of marginalized ethnic groups, were said to undergo horrifying unethical experiments, such as chemical testing, psychological manipulation, and invasive surgical procedures to implant hormone-altering neurological chips near the brainstem of captured individuals. According to leaked documents, the surgery is highly fatal, with an estimated fatality rate of 78% of all test subjects who survived previous experiments and underwent the procedure. Those that do survive, however, were given amnestic agents before being released into the public, with no memory of the brain chip being implants into them. The brain chip was said to be a powerful mind-controlling device, although the purpose of NMWGauze as a whole remains unclear according to the information gathered from the leaked documents. Theories range from specialised sleeper cells to be dispatched into foreign countries to last resort guerilla cells in the event New Westmore was invaded. The invasion never occurred, much to Hart's chagrin, as internal strife and breakaway provinces pulled his regime apart and led to the collapse of his dictatorial dystopia. The number of individuals with the brain implants was said to be in the low hundreds, although the dossier keeping track of these individuals were lost when the Hart regime fell. The new government, under President Esther Lynn, reportedly ceased further testing under 'Project NMWGauze', yet kept the details of this horrifying crime a secret and neglected to assist the tested individuals in removing these brain implants. The result was individuals implanted with the chips continuing to live long after the fall of the Hart regime. The experimental brain implants reportedly malfunctioned after moderate periods of neglect, which can cause severe, unpredictable side effects such as anxiety, mood swings, hyper-aggressiveness, psychosis, and even sudden death. The Malvekian Herald has traced incidents caused by malfunctioning brain implants to several murder cases across New Westmore, as well as the infamous Lafayette Hospital Stabbing Incident, which saw Daniel Lee, a New Westmorean likely under the influence of a malfunctioning brain implant, attacked hospital workers and patients before being killed in an encounter with Neumarin police, resulting in six deaths and dozens of injuries. Upon being queried by The Malvekian Herald over a phone call, Malvekian Prime Minister Dubont Stilwell has expressed deep concern over the allegations being presented with the exposure of the leaked documents and files. Reportedly, he has assured that the government is doing everything it can to rectify the issue, ordering the immediate suspension of travel between New Westmore and Malvekia, as well as an independent investigation to be conducted to verify the contents of the leaks. “The revelations are deeply troubling,” said Prime Minister Stilwell in a statement. “We are currently working hard to identify affected individuals within Malvekia and isolate them from further harm, as well as cooperating with our international partners in the International Court of Justice to ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts are held accountable.” Public outcry is growing, with many Malvekian expressing rage, shock, and disgust across various social media platforms. Attempts to contact the New Westmorean embassy have failed, as well as attempts to contact President Esther Lynn in New Westmore. The exposure of New Westmore’s illegal human experimentation program and its attempted coverup is expected to send shockwaves across Valsora. In the wake of these revelations, New Westmore and the Esther administration will have to grapple with the implications of this scandal. Esther Lynn's government, in their failure to expose Project NMWGauze, has not only endangered New Westmoreans but also the wider international community. For now, all New Westmoreans within Malvekian territory are requested to report to their nearest health clinics to undergo medical inspections. However, whether or not further incidents and deaths involving these brain implants can be prevented will require collective action, transparency, and a renewed commitment to the fundamental values of human dignity and respect. For the foreseeable future, the path forward will be hard and arduous for many, especially New Westmore and her people, who will continue to live in the shadow of Hart's tyrannical regime.

Malvekia's Approaching General Election: Potential Coalitions, Policy Reforms, and Political Shakeups
By Floriana Aldobran and Emilia Acierno (10/8/2034)
Top: Malvekia Gears Up For Its Biggest Election Yet, Where 36.3 Million Eligible Voters Will Decide The Future Of The Nation In What Is Said To Be Malvekia's Most Important Election To Date. |
Sol Malvekia: The atmosphere on the ground is teeming with anticipation and excitement as the 2034 Malvekian General Election draws near, with the Commissione Elettorali del Malvekia (Election Commission of Malvekia) have set the polling date for the end of August. Political analysts are abuzz with speculations about the potential emergence of new party coalitions, sweeping policy reforms, and unexpected shakeups that are set to define the future of Malvekia, whereas voters from all walks of life are eagerly preparing to head to the polls, ballots in hand and hungry for change. This year's election will be Malvekia's greatest yet, many say, as this would be the first election to be conducted with the international world watching. Current opinion polls have suggested that the ruling government might face their toughest battle yet, as they faced an uphill battle against an increasingly polarising society, stagnating middle income economy, and increased cost of living. Malvekian democracy has had a turbulent past. Despite her current friendly demeanor and nonchalant attitudes, Malvekia has fought tooth and nail for their right to vote, as evident in the Malvekian Civil War. Known as the Guerra del Fratelli or Brothers' War, the late 20th century conflict saw Imperial and Republican factions tore the country apart in a brutal decade-long conflict that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Malvekians, ultimately ending in a peace treaty that led to the establishment of Malvekia's first civilian government. Even then, Malvekia's democracy still underwent a tumultuous process which saw its first civilian government, once led by the now prominent opposition party Lega Nazionale di Malvekia (National League of Malvekia), overthrown in a largely peaceful civil disobedience campaign after attempting to implement increasingly authoritarian measures to cement their rule. Now, Malvekians cherish their rights dearly, and are always eager to vote for their beliefs and policies, leading to consistently high voting participation records over the years. This love for their rights has not change, but much like the monsoon winds, voter priorities do. This time around, the main concerns of the voting population according to opinion polls, can be broken down into three categories: Economic Development, Cost of Living, and Environmental Action. Voter concerns for economic development largely center around Malvekia's struggle to escape the so-called 'Middle Income Trap'. Despite an impressive $1.49 trillion economy, Malvekia's GDP Per Capita remains uncompetitive and falling behind global standards. Policy changes moving towards more high-value manufacturing sectors will be the aim, but what sectors that will be the targets for development will differ from party to party. Meanwhile, cost of living largely addresses the increase in goods prices as Malvekia becomes increasingly integrated with the global markets, with global geopolitical events constantly threatening market prices for foreign goods, voting concerns towards safeguarding domestic industries and supressing cost of living increases will be another factor in swaying votes. Lastly, the parties' stance on environmental action will be decisive in swaying the younger votes, who see climate change and green policies as an important voting issue. However, with Malvekia's dependence on fossil fuels for power generation, as well as the long-standing coal mining and timber communities of the north, environmental issues will indeed be a polarising issue to navigate for many political parties. While there may be other issues to be addressed in the coming elections, the big three remain the focus of many Malvekians as they enter the polling stations later this month. With political parties kicking off their campaign trails at the start of the month, many political analysts have delved into the potential coalitions that may crop up for this all important election cycle leading up to polling day. The latest news indicates that the left-leaning government coalition of Partito dei Democratici Liberali (Liberal Democratic Party) and Partito della Giustizia Progressista (Progressive Justice Party) plan to continue their successful alliance, although voter confidence has been shaky despite a strong performance throughout the current term, indicating the potential need for a third party to join the coalition should they fail to obtain a majority in parliament seats. On the opposition side, talks between the right-wing Lega Nazionale di Malvekia (National League of Malvekia) and the center-right Nuovo Congresso Riformista di Malvekia (New Reformist Congress of Malvekia) have so far failed to bear fruit, with the two largest right-leaning parties of Malvekia still at loggerheads over decisive electoral issues. Meanwhile, the dozen or so minor political parties of Malvekia continue in their struggle to gain relevance, although it is indicated that the left-leaning Malvekia Più Verde (Greener Malvekia) may perform strongly this election as environmental issues are brought to the forefront of the political discussion, which could be bad news for the ruling government whose votes may be siphoned away by this development. As election day approaches, the stakes are high, and along with it comes the promise of change and a renewed sense of hope. Whoever gains control of the government will not only have to navigate the complex landscape of Malvekian politics, but also redefine the future direction of the country. Whatever the outcome, we here at The Malvekian Herald will be there at every step of the way to bring you the latest news about Malvekia's most exciting general election to date. Keep your heads on a swivel for the latest updates, as we break down upcoming electoral news, as well as bring you each party's electoral manifestos as they are released along with an analytical breakdown by our very own in-house political analyst Professor Rea L.
