List of Organizations in the Rhodesian War (ARCHIVE)

THE FACTIONS

The Free Republic
The Rhodesian Army-
Leader: Marshal Jack Galloway
Desc: The Rhodesian Army is the de facto government of the Rhodesian Nation, controlling a majority of its major cities and economy, as well as effective control of the Rhodesian Parliament. The Rhodesian Army consists of the RLI (Rhodesian Light Infantry), the RSAS (Rhodesian Special Air Service) and the RhAF (Rhodesian Air Force). The Army is relatively apolitical by Rhodesian standards, although a mass of conservative beliefs tend to dominate, given the war of survival against socialist africans.

The Rhodesian Parliament
Leader: Prime Minister Paul Kirby
Desc: The Parliament of Rhodesia is, on paper, the government of the Free Republic, however they have very little power in practice. Effectively a puppet kept in power by the Army, the Parliament has no power to enforce laws and as such has no authority, it comes down to the Army to decide what is an isnt. Surprisingly, elections are very much free, they just dont matter. Ian Smiths Rhodesia Front was the dominant political party, usually carrying around half of the vote and maintaining the Prime Minister spot since the 1970s.

RSAS Northern Command-
Leader: K. A. Sharp
Desc: The Northern Command is a battalion of SAS soldiers occupying a small portion of Northern Rhodesia. The Command is so far removed from the central government that it has effectively become its own fighting force. Its main objective has been to disrupt Zambian supply and it has been incredibly effective in this, not suffering a single casualty since 1996, which speaks to the groups skill as well as their small scale.

Central African People’s Army (CAPA)-
Leader: William Albert Kingly
Desc: Despite its name, CAPA is perhaps the most fanatical white faction of the Rhodesian War, save for a few minor political movements and officers clubs. Consisting of a few white majority settlements, most notably Fort Victoria, CAPA believed in a form of socialism professed by the journalist Albert Decoster. Decosterist Socialism believed that socialism should be achieved for europeans only, and that they should rule over Africa. This lost political ideology somehow managed to take over a few neglected settlements in Rhodesia.

Nyasaland Administration-
Leader: Edgar Trump
Desc: The Nyasaland Administration is, in effect, the Governments occupation in Nyasaland, however due to being so far removed from the Parliament in Salisbury and the Army headquarters in Bulawayo that is was forced to become an independent, self functioning government. Nyasaland is where many Liberal leaning Rhodesians will go if they dislike the conservative government in Salisbury. Nyasaland, while still being colonialist, very much follows after the classic British liberal view. Nyasaland is mostly known for being the only place in Rhodesia where one can get free healthcare.

Ngoni People’s Patriot Front (NPPF)-
Leader: Stephen Nqobile
(It is notable that the Ngoni have a king by the name of King Njengambaso (Mphezeni IV) kaKhuzwayo. I dont want to deal with that name nor is there any information on him besides the fact that he exists.)
Desc: The Ngoni have always been an interesting people, closely related to the Zulu, they had originally migrated north after the Zulu destruction of their homeland. They maintained a distinct culture all throughout British rule into the modern day. The Ngoni were effectively forced to side with the government due to the ANC and MANU attempting to suppress Ngoni culture, leading to a nationalist, and pro Rhodesian uprising.

Rhodesian African Rifles (RAR)
Leader: Joseph Gwazanani
Desc: The RAR was once a unit of the Rhodesian Army, famed for being made up entirely of African volunteers, however they would end up behind enemy lines in Zambia, and they would effectively be their own command. In the modern day, RAR is a small group of commandos that reign over several local militias in Southern Barotseland, famed for their strict allegiance to the government, and Jack Galloway in particular

Force Publique in Exile (FP) -
Leader: Siegfried Muller Jr.
Desc: the Force Publique are rather interesting, originally the group was made up of Belgian refugees from the Congo, being given land in Zambia to strengthen government positions, and slowly it began to be dominated by white mercenaries leaving the Congo once the victorious government stopped paying them. The only similarity they have to their namesake is their general brutality in maintaining their rule, and their use of the french language.

American-Israeli Defense Contractors-
Leader: Samuel “Sammy” Perone
Desc: Several portions of the highway and railway linking Lusaka to Tanzania have found themselves under the control of Defense contractors hailing from America and Israel. Originally contracted by ANC-Za to maintain peace, they quickly found their pay cut and rebelled, turning to the drug trade to make money, and nominally siding with the Salisbury government to gain support and avoid being pushed off of the Zambian highway.

Communist Separatists

Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU) / Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) -
Leader: Dumiso Dabengwa
Desc: ZAPU and their armed wing ZIPRA represent the Sablinist ideal of communism in Zimbabwe, and as such are supported militarily by the Soviet Union. ZAPU was the first to call for war against Rhodesia back in the 1960s, and they immediately adopted a socialist view, partially out of virtue and partially to secure eastern support. In the 1960s, the group would split between ZAPU and ZANU, with ZAPU choosing Soviet support over Chinese support, and in the 1970s adopting the ideals of Valery Sablin.

Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) / Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA) -
Leader: Robert Mugabe
ZANU originally split from ZAPU over a disagreement about chinese or soviet support, with ZANU preferring the former. In the 70s however, they fell into the modern allegiance, rejecting Stalino-Sablinist view of the reformed Soviet Union and instead adopted the ideals of one Leon Trotsky, adopting a Pan African Socialist view and fighting to Unify all the Rhodesian lands under a local Socialist federation. They have less international backing than ZAPU.

African National Congress- Zambia (ANC-Za)-
Leader: Frederick Chiluba
The Zambian African Nation Congress formed during the South African ANC’s brief exile to Lukasa before Rhodesia declared independence. When government control over Zambia collapsed, the ANC-Za took the opportunity and seized control over much of the Nation, even capturing Lukasa for a few years. The ANC, in theory, is one of the most democratic and pro western factions in the Rhodesian war, but in practice the country os riddled with corruption and the ANC government cannot control its own military. This doesnt stop Liberals in America and Britain from praising them however.

Malawi African National Union (MANU) -
Leader: Moses Msoyowa
Desc: MANU originally found its footing as a copycat of ZANU, following its original Maoist message in their fight to free Malawi from white rule. After Pan-Africanists gained control of ZANU, the MANU found itself under the control of Moses Msoyowa, a Catholic priest and hardcore Maoist, who began to enforce a mix of Catholic doctrine and agrarian socialism onto the land MANU controlled. MANU was recently dealt a devastating blow when the ANC on Zambia began its “Peacekeeping operation” in Malawi, which was in reality just the Zambian Army showing its power, and its dislike for the Traditionalists and Christian Socialists

ANC Malawi Command (ANC-Ma) / Zambian Special Marine Unit (ZSMU)
Leader: Borniface Mwaanga
Desc: The Zambian Special Marine Unit is, despite officially being government controlled, the most powerful communist force in Zambia. Borniface Mwaanga, a hardcore Sablinite, leads nearly 20,000 men of identical views. Mwaanga may very well be the most powerful man in Rhodesia, save for Marshall Galloway himself. Recently, ZSMU went on an unsanctioned “Peacekeeping” mission into Malawi, which was more out of Mwaanga’s desire to destroy catholics and traditionalists.

Northeast African People’s Liberation Army (NAPLA) -
Leader: Decentralized
Desc: NAPLA formed as a response to the LRA’s declaration of a second Barotse Kingdom. Made up primarily anti Lozi reactionaries and socialists, the Army primarily exists with the goal of destroying the LRA. It is well understood by everyone involved that once the Barotse reactionaries are crushed, NAPLA will immediately dissolve. For the time being, they pose an extreme threat to the Barotse plan to create a separate state.

Rally For Congolese Democracy (RCD) -
Leader: Unknown
Desc: the RCD is a small faction of Congolese militants that have taken up positions in Zambia to avoid the Congolese government. They are not important.

Reactionary Separatists

Zimbabwe National People’s Organization (ZNPO)/ Great Zimbabwe National Liberation Army (GZNLA) -
Leader: Keeble Bourbon
Desc: ZNPO is a strange organization, believing in an africanized version of National Socialist philosophy, they believe the Bantu descended Africans are the chosen people to rule the world, and that the Ethiopian-European dominated African continent is an affront. It is debatable as to what the end goal of the ZNPO is, some of its members claim they want a united Bantu State, some claim a united Africa, while its main leadership claims they simply want to free Zimbabwe from “European Ideoligion”

Kingdom of Barotseland / Lozi Resorption Army (LRA) -
Leader: Clement Sinyinda
Desc: the LRA is a militia dedicated to securing Barotse independence, its views are distinctly traditionalist and conservative, but it is far from a standout in the wild realm of Rhodesia. Barotseland likely could have earned its independence in 1980s if not for its constant socialist guerillas and its inability to crush the RAR, which had taken over most of the Barotse border with Namibia.

Maravi National Salvation Government (MNSG) -
Leader: John Temba
Desc: The Maravi salvation government are a reactionary movement seeking to establish a monarchy similar to that of Ethiopias in the former lands of the Maravi empire, consisting of all of Malawi, and parts of Mozambique and Zambia. Just before the nationwide ceasefire, the MNSG was nearly destroyed by the ZSMU, being reduced to a guerrilla militia.

Malawi Republican Army (MRA) / Lambya Peoples Salvation Government (LPSG)
Leader: Akele Banda
Desc: the MRA, an organization made primarily of the Lambya people, is dedicated to the creation of a conservative, democratic republic. The organization has little support out of the Lambya dominated north, but due to the crippling of other Malawi independence movements, the group has found themselves as one of the most powerful in the Region.

Green Flag Movement / Ansar Allah-
Leader: Omari Saiful Islam
Desc: The green flag movement is among the most peculiar in the Rhodesian war. The movement was started by one Omari Saiful Islam, a muslim who attempted to promote a revolution in Mozambique, for which he was promptly made a criminal and forced to flee his homeland. He started the Green Flag Movement in Rhodesia, encouraging local africans to convert to Islam as a protest against the west, and eventually convincing his following to take up a Guerrilla movement, Ansar Allah. The Green Flag proved incredibly popular, with upwards of 2 million muslim converts in Rhodesia since 1970, however Ansar Allah has been much less popular, with an estimated 500 armed fighters.

Its worth nothing that Ansar Allah is a wildly used name for islamic terrorist organizations, including the Houthis, a terrorist organization in Gaza, and Hezbollah’s South American branch (yes, one of the most famous islamic terror groups operates in one of the most catholic places on earth). Anyway, literally every single possible name for an Islamic terror group has already been used IRL.
