The Ipeonic Empire.

The Ipeonic Empire, also known as the Empire of Ipeonia or Imperial Ipeonia, is the post-regal period of the Ipeonic civilization. It originated with the overseas colonies and trading posts established by Ipeonia. Characterized by an initially constitutional form of government and extensive territorial possessions, it became autocratic on August 17, 2024, when the Ipeonic Parliament granted Arthur, who held unquestionable authority, absolute powers, receiving the regnal name Arthur Philip Francis Caesar Augustus (Ipeonic: Artur Filipe Francisco César Augusto; Latin: Arthurus Philippus Franciscus Cćsar Augustus), thus marking the end of the constitutional monarchy. The Ipeonic regal period is known as the first period of Ipeonic history when the nation and its territory were governed by kings. According to tradition, the regal period began with the founding of the Ipeonic people and their kingdom by King Ushiwu — although it is unclear to what extent a historical figure underlies the mythical Ushiwu, the events and institutions attributed to him were central to the myths surrounding the origins and cultural traditions of Ipeonia. The regal period ends with the deposition of the regime when Arthur is proclaimed emperor. Upon becoming emperor, Arthur promoted a series of national reforms through his personal influence within the Ipeonic government, such as the abolition of the feudal system, where the imperial government abolished the class distinction between farmers and soldiers, replacing it with a more egalitarian class system, transforming them simply into Ipeonic citizens. He also developed the former Ipeonic army, inspired by the model used regionally by more developed nations, creating the Ipeonic Imperial Armed Forces. Arthur encouraged the construction of modern infrastructure, such as railways and highways, electronic networks, and modern industries, especially in the textile, steel, and metalworking sectors. He also promoted agrarian reforms that increased productivity and allowed the country to finance industrialization. Ipeonia became an emerging imperial power, founding overseas colonies and global trading posts, winning wars, and creating treaties with neighboring nations, consolidating its position as a military and economic power.
Arthur was strict with the Ipeonic Parliament and its members, gradually removing it from the administration of the Empire's affairs and issues, diminishing its importance as a political assembly. Meanwhile, he appointed representatives and peers who, in his deliberations, were considered to be upright. He dismissed any parliamentarian who had any reputation or history of corruption. However, the Parliament apparently maintained a prominent position, with the majority of its representatives elected by the Ipeonic people, while the Emperor acted as a political filter with regard to parliamentary probity. In reality, however, its activity was inspired and guided by Arthur. The Emperor exercised power through cooperation with elected officials, economic interests, and popular support. Arthur's most notable political successes were achieved through the cooperative and non-confrontational manner in which he acted in relation to the interdependence and interaction of the diverse interests and party figures with whom he had to deal. Arthur was always remarkably tolerant, rarely taking offense at criticism, opposition, or even incompetence. He was careful to appoint only highly qualified candidates to government positions, and sought to curb corruption. Even after being granted absolute power, he did not use his de jure and de facto authority to force his initiatives without proper support, and his collaborative manner of governing kept the nation moving forward and allowed the political system to function successfully. The representatives were elected from among the Ipeonic citizens, and, as the Emperor's influence was decisive in this election, the members of the Parliament were men of his trust. On the other hand, the Emperor had free initiative to convene the Parliament and present proposals to it. Arthur maintained free movement between the metropolis and its domains and protectorates, and, virtually, the people within the Empire were treated equally with the Ipeonic people. However, with the creation of Ipeonic citizenship, the Ipeonic courts held original jurisdiction over cases involving Ipeonic citizens throughout the Empire, but there were too few judicial officials to enforce Ipeonic law uniformly throughout their dominions. Generally, it was Ipeonic policy to respect regional law (Ipeonic: lei regional; Latin: mos regionis), and to regard local laws as a source of legal precedent and social stability. If local law conflicted with Ipeonic law or custom, the Ipeonic courts heard appeals, and the Emperor held final decision-making authority.
The Ipeonic Empire established a common market through a harmonized system of laws applicable to all its dominions and protectorates. Passport controls were abolished. The Empire's policies aim to ensure the free movement of people, goods, services and capital, legislate common matters in justice and maintain common policies on trade, agriculture, fishing and regional development. With the standardization of the pila (₱) throughout the Empire, trade and market integration were promoted. With a total population of approximately 32 billion, 259 million people, the Ipeonic Empire generated a gross domestic product (GDP) of four quadrillion, nine hundred and seventy trillion, and fifty-four billion pilas in 2024, which represents approximately 10,71% of the global average GDP, measured in terms of purchasing power parity.
During the beginning of the Ipeonic colonization, to finance the modernization and development of Ipeonia, the Empire exploited the natural resources of its dominions, especially with regard to mining. The main mining regions of the Empire were Corbitania (silver, copper, lead, iron, gold, and oil); Sanemaria (gold, silver, oil, iron); Hyperionia (mainly iron, lead, tin), Aquilonalia (gold, tin); Jubatia and Siselania (gold, silver); Elpia (copper); and Bragantia (gold, silver, iron, tin). Large-scale intensive mining — of alluvial deposits and through open-pit and underground mining — occurred from the reign of Arthur until the Empire's dominions became developed, exporting and developing industrialized products. Mining became a secondary activity for the metropolis. The Ipeonic dominions traded among themselves, but trade extended beyond the borders to distant regions. Trade was mainly carried out by sea, occurring from the Elpians and Sanemarics ports.
With the rapid economic and social growth of the Empire, from its most remote parts to its capitals, Arthur undertook a vast building program throughout the dominions, supporting public displays of art that expressed imperial ideology, and creating a planned, ordered, and ornate structure for the cities of the Empire, following logical and symmetrical patterns. With the infrastructure receiving such heavy investment, human development indices soared, affirming the Emperor's position as a universal benefactor and the right of the people to share "in the fruits of conquest", creating a sense of belonging in all social classes.
With the gradual consolidation of the Ipeonic dominion, the Empire saw enough stability for the beginning of Pharaonic investments and constructions. Intercontinental tunnels were built, connecting the largest imperial territories to each other, especially the Trans-Sanemaric Metropolitan Tunnel, which crosses the entire Sanemaria and connects it to Jubatia and Bragantia with a magnetic levitation railway line, considered a marvel of engineering and architecture, reducing logistical costs estimated at billions of pilas per year, integrating the Empire and increasing its territorial unity. In addition to the construction of tunnels, Ipeonia built mega-bridges throughout the Empire. In Aquilonalia, for example, the Blue Swordfish Bridge crosses and connects the various islands of its archipelago to Ipeonia and Siselania.
Currently, an intercontinental electric railway is being built, the project of which plans to connect Arthuropolis to all the other capitals of the Ipeonic dominions, called the Via Ipeonica (English: Ipeonic Way). When completed, it will be the largest magnetically levited railway line on the planet.
