Government in Novanuki

The current head of state is His Excellency Sevastian A. Legano. As the name suggests, The Honourable Principality Of Novanuki is headed by the Prince, who is Legano. The Legislative body is a multicameral one in which the people can elect those who represent them. The two chambers (Council of Commoners and Council of Nobles) are in charge of te legislative process in the nation. The executive branch of the nation is directed by the Prince of the Royal Family as well as the elected Prime Minister. The judicial branch is lead by the High Court of Righteousness. Their are 9 judges. When a new one need be appointed (death ore retirement) the Prince and the Prime Minister will take turns on selecting a new judge.

The Prince of the Royal Family can select a political party and is in charge of establishing diplomatic relations, directing the Novagasque Guard, signing international treaties, and overseeing the Legislature. The Prince must approve any bills passed in the Legislature with less than 60 percent approval in any of two houses. The Prince must also approve candidates for the job of Prime Minister provided the said prime minister's received less than 70 percent of the vote in the Council election. The current Prime Minister is Lorenzo San-José.

The Council of Commoners is so levied by the people. Each district has a similar population as the other. The districts are drawn in non-partisan manners. Each party, after elections, has one month to nominate/select an MP for Prime Minister. The Council then votes and selects one of these MP for the job of PM, which the Prince must then approve if the MP’s body of supporters numbers less than 70 percent of the council of commoners. The Prime Minister must approve any bills passed by the Council of Commoners. The Prime Minister and Prince appoint 60 individuals to the Council of the Nobles. This Council is reserved only for the best performing citizens of Novanuki. These include famous doctors, businessmen, lawyers, or experts. The Council of Commoners can nullify the Council of Nobles if they vote for it with a 70 percent majority. The Council of Nobles helps the Prime Minister and Prince make executive decisions concerning all affairs. They must also approve any proposed laws coming from the Council of Commoners.
