The Gardener's Gazette, edition 11

The Gardener's Gazette

Welcome to the eleventh edition of the The Gardener's Gazette, a monthly newspaper with the purpose of keeping both gardeners and guests informed on the happenings within the Card Gardening Society.

Garden Insight
by Giovanniland

Another month, and another Garden Insight! This time, we will be covering the interesting events that took place in the Gardens during April, all in a few paragraphs.

The month started with the April Fools events where the Best Nation of the World was decided by voters. Although it was well commented in the Gardens, it also got a mention in the last issue of the Gazette so this insight will focus on other happenings. The major event of the month of April was the Gardens' birthday on April 7, and on that day several Gardeners went to celebrate and also read the previous edition of the Gazette, which was released on the same day. It was a nice celebration that now marks over a year of the Gardening Society.

Other interesting events were also a result of the celebration. Some days later, birthdays in general were discussed, especially after a Gardener's birthday happened. It was a cultural discussion on how people around the world celebrate these important dates, and of course there were some card-related ideas such as giving Gardeners a legendary card on their birthday. Furthermore, the Community Contribution Awards sparked some discussion on the color of Noahs Second Country's role for having donated the most cards - for example, Evrigenis suggested the hex code #222222 due to Noah's love of the number two.

Near the middle of the month there was also a technical problem when Beldum-Bot failed to run the giveaways, although this was solved by administrator The unified missourtama states creating an autoresponder with the Mimu bot to serve the same purpose. Other discussions were related to pull-events, auctions and cards for sale, especially on the Farmers' Market. Meanwhile, the Garden Displays saw some new collections including a complete legendary one by Mediobogdum, while the Toolshed wasn't very active.

Finally, just like previous months, I close this articles by giving a warm welcome to new Gardeners. Welcome to New jacobland, The United Peoples of Centrism and Minskiev that joined last month!

Winners of the Month
by Giovanniland

There was a total of 14 giveaways in April, thus making several Gardeners quite happy with the amount of gifts and the now-common puns after the winner is announced. It was also one more than March, which featured 13 giveaways with 11 different winners. However, the amount of winners stayed the same, meaning that one more person was lucky to have won two in the same month.

Elegarth, The Holy Principality of Saint Mark and Inven were the lucky winners of the month, each winning two different giveaways each. The eight remaining giveaways were each won by another Gardener, with the card rewards including some valuable cards such as Xoriet and the ceased-to-exist Choistan. In a nutshell, it was a nice month for those lucky Gardeners below, while the others will hopefully win a Legendary card or Epic package in the upcoming giveaways.

Monthly Contest Results and Update
by Giovanniland

For the last month, an old but good contest style was brought back to celebrate our one year anniversary, namely the art of collecting cards. Gardeners were tasked with building collections related to the theme birthday in this Anniversary Card Contest that saw two entries being submitted.

The first submission was made by Nacoa dya, also known as Swen. They submitted their friends collection, citing the fact it had been one year since they joined NationStates and the Pacific at the time of submission as the reason it was related to the theme. Meanwhile, The Cosmic Mainframe submitted their collection of nations with maximum residency, which was also an interesting take on the birthday theme. These nations have stayed for more than a decade in their respective regions, even predating the modern residency count (thus all having the same number) and therefore have celebrated several birthdays.

All in all, it was an interesting contest with two entries that were creative in relation to the original theme. The members of the Sub-Administrative Committee then gathered to decide the winners after the deadline. Just like in previous contests, the judge team was composed by Destructive Government Economic System, Giovanniland, Noahs Second Country, The unified missourtama states and Recuecn. The winner decided by the judges is…

*drumroll*

The Cosmic Mainframe, who earned a clear majority of 4 votes! Honorable mention to Nacoa dya for participating as well and getting one vote.

Congratulations! The winner earned the Season 2 legendary card USS Monitor.

In this article we also announce the next contest, and this month won’t be different! For the month of May and early June, Gardeners will have to channel their inner photographers for the Gardening Contest. It’s simple—show off your gardening abilities by taking a photo of your house’s garden! If you don’t have one or don’t want to show it due to privacy concerns, you can also submit an alternate version, which is drawing how you want your ideal garden to look like. The rules are listed below:

1.
a) Photos: must be original work by the person submitting, this means no stealing a random photo from the internet since we will check submissions for that.
b) Designs: can be either drawn digitally or by hand, and must also be original content.
2. Several designs/photos can be submitted by each Gardener, but this doesn’t mean they will win several prizes.
3. Every submitted design/photo must follow Card Gardens and NationStates rules.
4. Submission method: either a Discord DM or a telegram to Giovanniland with a link to the artwork, preferably hosted on an image-hosting site like Imgur.
5. Submissions close at 23:59 UTC on Sunday, 6th June. The winner will then be announced in the next Gazette edition following a Committee vote.
6. The winner will win a shiny legendary card, and additional prizes may be awarded if there are several entries.

The winner will then be announced in the next Gazette, and all entries will also be listed so that readers can look at every artwork. Good luck gardening!

Gardener of the Year
by Giovanniland

Finally, we close this edition with the announcement of the Gardener of the Year award winners. As you already know, this honor was created two months ago in order to recognize non-admin Gardeners that have made pivotal contributions to our Society over the course of a year. There were three nominations during this period, all different nominees. So who’s the winner? We could’ve made a vote for the Gardeners to decide, but instead I’ve decided that all three will receive this honor due to their different contributions. Here are them:

Racoda was the first to be nominated. Racoda’s contributions to the Society are incomparable, such as creating the Gardener Highlighter Script that helps our members to be easily identifiable in auctions and thus avoids accidental heists or other problems between them. Thank you, Racoda!

Vylixan was also nominated, and is equally worthy of the award. Site was the first ever recipient of the Community Contribution awards for Cards, meaning that for the first six month of the Society’s existence they donated the most cards for giveaways. Without donations from members like Site, we wouldn’t be able to maintain our weekly giveaways for so long. Thank you, Site!

The Salaxalans was the other nomination. Salax’s love of potatoes certainly fits with our garden theme, and thus they have contributed to the Gardens’ culture with this and other contributions. Thank you, Salax!

Congratulations to the three awardees! The Gardeners of the Year may display this award in signatures, trophy dispatches, or other places they want to show it:

See you all next month for another Gardener's Gazette edition. Credits to Giovanniland for leading the newspaper publication and writing the articles! If you'd like to write, please contact our Administration to apply for the Gazette Writer position.
