The Spanish State, or the Estado Español is a semi-democratic state in the Iberian Peninsula, bordered by the Portuguese Republic to the west and Vichy France in the east. It is led by Francisco Franco Bahamonde, the caudillo of the Spanish State. Alongside him is the Cortes Españolas, the legislature of the Spanish Government, with its president being Francisco Franco Salgado-Araujo. Spain is recently recovering from its most devastating conflict, the Spanish Civil War, with the help of its economic allies, the United States of America, the United States of Mexico, and the Portuguese Republic.

The Spanish State was formed in late 1938 after the Spanish Civil War ended in a Nationalist Victory. Funded by the United States, Mexico, and Portugal, the Spanish State has grown to be a close associate of the three nations. Spain has a very antipathic relationship with the Kingdom of Italy and the German Reich due to them not fulfilling the promise of aid they gave to Franco's Government. Since 1938, the Spanish State has aligned itself with democracy rather than the nationalist ideology it fought for during the Civil War.

Spain's priorities include military and infrastructure, given that Spain's recovery from the Civil War was not an easy one, the effects of the Civil War on Spain were quite noticeable as some areas were still devastated by their previous battles. Spain's industries include weaponry, radio, automobiles, and aircraft. Assisted by America, Spain's economy began to stabilize quickly. People have attributed Spain's economic alliance with Portugal, Mexico, and the United States as a miracle. Spain has, more or less, became a considerable power.

Spain's territories include the mainland, the Canary Islands, and Morocco, which is being fought over by both Spanish and French troops. Spain has also seized Gibraltar from the British in light of it aligning with the Axis Powers due to the second Anglo-Japanese Alliance. It has a total territory of 796,030 km2, not counting Gibraltar and the territories in Morocco seized by the Spanish Army.

Recent History

Spanish Civil War

The Spanish State's first foundations date back to the July 18 incident of 1936, where the North African garrison, led by officials of the Army of Africa, including Francisco Franco Bahamonde, staged a coup. Franco's actions had spilled outside of Africa, though, as places such as Galicia, with the Nationalists taking control of A Coruña, León, Zaragoza, Pamplona, Cáceres, Salamanca, Ávila, Vitoria, Oviedo, Sevilla, Córdoba, Granada, and the Balearic Islands. The coup eventually spiraled out of control and triggered the early stages of the Spanish Civil War. It was a war that the nationalists were slowly losing during its initial stages.

Just days after the coup was declared and the Civil War started, the Nationalists lost control of Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granada. With heavy casualties and lots of men being lost, the Republicans retook the cities, but they were scorched by the Nationalist occupiers beforehand as one last act of spite against the Republican government and its military. The Nationalists did however link up Oviedo with León, and used the city as a staging point for the Nationalists to invade Northern Spain.

Northern Spain was attacked by Nationalist forces in August of 1936, with Nationalist forces taking Gijón, consolidating the Nationalists' navy power. The Nationalists marched eastward, capturing territory as they continued their eastward march. The Nationalist advance however grinded to a halt when they reached Santander. Originally, they were expecting an easy victory, however, the Republican Army received aid from the French army and the Soviet Union. Republican tanks and armored cars met Nationalist infantry advances and caused a devastating defeat for the Nationalists.

The Civil War took a turn for the worst as the Republicans mounted a counter-offensive against the Nationalist armies in the south, retaking cities such as Teruel, Ávila, Cáceres, Valladoid, Salamanca, and Zaragoza. The Nationalists tried their best to prevent their offensive from failing at the hands of the Republicans, It had some success, as Republicans did not advance further after taking those cities, however it seems that they would regroup and launch the final blow towards the Nationalist Forces, who simply hid and waited for the inevitable.

In mid-1937, however, things would change. The United States was in the middle of their great depression, and were desperate to find anything that could help the economy alongside FDR's 'New Deal' policy. Arms trade, weapons trade, anything that didn't involve loans which could help bolster the American economy. It soon found potential in the Spanish Nationalist side, which was losing. Seeing a potential ally in Iberia, the United States contacted the Nationalists and offered them support in exchange for access to Spanish ports, a mutual economic assistance pact, and other miscellaneous things. The Nationalists, without a second thought, accepted this offer and now it found itself being bolstered. However, to their surprise, their old colony, Mexico, supported the Nationalists as well, due to the rising threat of communism in Mexico, it aided Spain as long as it would help the defense against Communism. This deal was accepted.
