Getting Started with NationStates

Welcome to the Rejected Realms!

Getting Started written by Agalaesia

Hello and welcome to The Rejected Realms! If you got here, you were probably banned, either by raiders, your own oppressive Government, or someone else. Why you’re here doesn’t matter, the point is that you’re now here.

Despite what you may think, The Rejected Realms (frequently abbreviated to TRR) is a friendly community with a friendly Regional Message Board, an active government and a friendly offsite chat. The Rejected Realms also has a well-respected newsletter, an active culture office and a World Assembly department which helps you get involved with the WA!

NationStates can be confusing, especially if you’re a new player, so this guide will help to break it down. This section of the guide will help you understand what the core mechanisms of NationStates do, and how to participate in the Rejected Realms both on the NationStates website and off the NationStates website. You can find our other guides linked in the sidebar!

To start off with, one of the first things you will see on NationStates if you’re new is a lot of Telegrams. Telegrams are communications between other nations. They are also used to recruit nations into joining other regions. To disable these telegrams, go to settings, then scroll down to the telegrams section and then click preferences. One you’re there, click “Block All” for the recruitment tab.

Then the next thing you notice is likely the issues tab. Issues are basically questions with a set of answers that determine your national statistics and course. Think of yourself as a leader who is presented with a set of dilemmas you must answer which will have an impact on your nation, its peoples and industries. After your initial Foundation, issues appear every five hours. If you want to answer more issues, you can create multiple nations, as long as you only have one in the World Assembly.

Answering issues will sometimes generate Trading Card packs, which are found in the little card symbol on your nation page. Clicking on this symbol will show you all of your trading cards and at the top an ‘open pack’ button will appear if you have any after answering issues. Card packs will never expire or disappear, but you can only have a maximum of 9 unopened packs at once. Opened packs will automatically be sorted by rarity in your trading cards page and you can both buy and sell trading cards on the game market. Some players spend most of their time doing this, and many regions have official programs dedicated to trading cards!

Lastly, you might notice the Regional Message Board. This is a place where nations communicate with each other on a public platform. You can post about anything you want, as long as your posts follow the RMB Rules.
