History of Democratic Republic of Tibesti Mountains

On 5 January 2022, Chadian President Idriss Déby died of a heart attack after this struggle for power in Chad begun. After five months of the crisis, on 7 May 2022, Brahim Dadnadji became the new president of Chad. Brahim was an extremist Christian who deeply hated the Muslims. Soon after assuming office, he declared Christianity an official religion of Chad and banned practicing any other religion, he also ordered all mosques in Chad to be demolished. This caused a large scale Muslim uprising across the north of the country, as well as in the capital N'Djamena. Revolutionaries formed the Tibesti Liberation Front which by November 2022 occupied all of Saharan and most of the Sahelian parts of Chad. The leader of the uprising, Djimrangar Sassou was a Baháʼí, who valued liberty, secularism, and democracy. On 22 December, the Democratic Republic of Tibesti Mountains was declared with Sassou as its first president. Seeing the brutality of Brahim Dadnadji's regime, many western nations recognized Tibesti as an independent country. Democratic Republic of Tibesti Mountains joined the UN on 2 February 2023. Tibesti still remains unrecognized by the Republic of Chad, Mali, Niger, and several other nations.
