Category: Domestic Affairs

Affects: Presidency of the General Assembly

Noting, that every year around the Christmas holidays, activity levels across all of NationStates decrease due to the players' universal interest in spending these holidays with their family, friends and loved ones.

Realizing, that scheduling not one but two elections important to the entire New West Indies in the month of December is guaranteed to be paralleled by a decrease in the overall electoral turnout, especially the election of the President of the General Assembly scheduled to be held precisely on December 25th, i.e. Christmas Day.

Asserting, that this Resolution shall have no influence on how the election of the President of the General Assembly is conducted, the powers of the General Assembly President or general General Assembly procedures.

Clarifying, that the sole purpose of this Resolution is to postpone the election of the President of the General Assembly by one month in order to clear the overlap of the election with the Christmas holidays and the concomitant decrease in voter participation.

The General Assembly of the New West Indies hereby enacts the following:

  1. The term of the incoming President of the General Assembly is prolonged by one month. Instead of three months, the term of the President of the General Assembly elected after the passage of this Resolution shall last four (4) months.

  2. The electoral calendar for the Presidency of the General Assembly is shifted by one month. Instead of March 25, June 25, September 25 and December 25, the quarterly elections for President of the General Assembly are to be held on January 25, April 25, July 25 and October 25, respectively

    1. The first election of the President of the General Assembly scheduled for January 25 is to be held in the year following the election of the next President.

  3. The standard term length of the President of the General Assembly remains as is and §12 of the Constitution is not affected by this Resolution. Only the term of the President of the General Assembly following the passage of this Resolution is affected by the prolongation described in Section I.
