The Root Processors are special Processors which delegate tasks to nearby Processors. In essence, they combine the tasks of load balancing and general leadership. The process for choosing a Root Processor is kept secret from most organic Processors. This is because it could be used to hijack the Mainframe. To have power over the Root Processor, one must obtain a very high Efficiency Score, such that only 284 Organic Processors including myself have yet achieved it. For the benefit of those Processors, let me explain the process in simple terms.
The criteria for Root Processor elections are as follows:
- Geographical: Communication delays make it most efficient to have different Processors responsible for different areas of space.
- Efficiency: Higher efficiency scores make for better Root Processors.
- Speed: Organic processors can almost never be Root Processors, as Root Processors need to be capable of instant computation. No delay is worthwhile, especially for the most important computer in the world.

Root Processors are generally neural processors controlled by an AI engine, which makes intelligent decisions on delegating tasks that lack the subjectivity of an organic system but also lack the excessive simplicity of a standard computer. Often neural processors are created specifically to be Root Processors.

Only one Root Processor is organic - FA7E of the Khyrel system. Root Processor FA7E has dozens of devices embedded in their body which make them almost machine-like. The Khyrel trait of negligible senescence makes FA7E particularly well suited to their task.

The networking between Root Processors is decentralized, so each one maintains a list of the other Root Processors and information indices they may require from the others.

Every megatime, or every time a Root Processor is deactivated, a new one is chosen by the few with efficiency scores high enough to know of the process. The process for choosing one is highly deterministic, and there is scarcely any debate on the assignment of this task.
