Abstract

The basic design is surprisingly simple - a heavily-modified and reinforced KE-20 chamber housing will be fitted with an extended, accelerator array-enveloped barrel assembly. The supercooling system is integral to the coils themselves, and will be fitted externally for the most part. The breech is locked by both heavy-duty hydraulics and an electromagnetic sealing system prior to firing. Loading of the projectile and propellant block, in sequence, will be handled by the same multi-purpose autoloader. As such, the loading sequence has to be executed twice. Due to spatial constraints of the mounting solution precluding the fitting of two separate autoloaders, alongside the need to supercool the barrel between shots, this is deemed inconsequential with regards to functional refire rate.

Projectile guidance and general targeting will be handled by varying means depending on the user polity - to this end, such aspects of the system will be left as open-ended and modular as possible. In the case of the Yeglan example, all such action will be carried out via ASCHLN uplink, primarily [REMAINDER REDACTED BY THE MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR].

A typical projectile parabola will be induced artificially - as the initial firing impulse will serve only to place the projectile into a pre-specified orbit, it need not be excessively varied for extreme-range targets. Onboard guidance systems will be employed to both maneuver the projectile in-flight, and force it to de-orbit into the desired trajectory when the necessary distance from the target is reached.

The projectile itself will be built on a wholly modular basis - while the structural frame will be pre-set (thus allowing for a sufficient volume of conductive material to allow for effective acceleration), the exact internals will be left wholly up to the user polity. This allows for a wide range of applications both in and out of a military setting, including precision ballistic strikes, supply delivery, the launching of orbital assets (e.g. satellite packages) and specialized construct deployment.

Proposed Projectile Metrics

  • StanHEP-2
    Standard HE Projectile
    Non-polity-specific
    ✧Mass: 6536 kg
    ✧Diameter: 1250 mm
    ✧Length: 2800 mm
    ✧Yield: 12.9 tonnes of TNT
A standard HE shell, distributed among all platform users. Primary explosive charge is composed of octanitrocubane, granting unprecedented explosive yield per unit of mass. Precision-guided. Component synthesis & shell assembly will be primarily handled by the BDDM.

  • StanP-4
    Standard Penetrator Projectile
    Non-polity-specific
    ✧Mass: 7415 kg
    ✧Diameter: 1250 mm
    ✧Length: 3100 mm
    ✧Yield: 5.022 tonnes of TNT
A standard bunker-buster shell, distributed among all platform users. A smaller explosive charge is fitted within a high-density penetrator jacket, and is supplemented in its orbit-to-ground acceleration by an integral rocket booster. Capable of penetrating several dozen meters of reinforced concrete without issue. Component synthesis will be primarily handled by the BDDM, while final assembly will be relegated to Uvoanian manufacturers.

  • StanT-1
    Standard Thermonuclear Projectile
    Non-polity-specific
    ✧Mass: 5307 kg
    ✧Diameter: 1250 mm
    ✧Length: 3300 mm
    ✧Yield: 27 megatons of TNT
A three-stage thermonuclear warhead, modified for Longinus usage. Possesses two separate fusion stages (in addition to the implosion-fission primary stage), alongside a secondary fissile jacket, allowing for a remarkable yield to weight ratio. Far more economic to construct and deploy than a typical ICBM, while also being markedly more difficult to detect and intercept. Synthesis of nuclear materials, alongside construction of the warhead itself, will be handled by a jointly-established extranational department based in Port Arthur.

  • SpecAM-Y
    Specialized Anti-Materiel Projectile
Specific to the Federal Bureaucracy of Yegla Islands
    ✧Mass: 7880 kg
    ✧Diameter: 1250 mm
    ✧Length: 3420 mm
    ✧Yield: N/A
✧Impact Force: approx. 1.8 x 108 foot pounds per projectile fragment, approx. 4.6 x 1011 foot pounds per shell

A specialized shell developed for internal Bureaucracy use, constructed on the basis of existing PFSL-A projectiles. Oft nicknamed the Depopulator, or God's Shotgun, by servicemen. Features a core of self-shaping smart explosive, surrounded by a high-density fragmenting jacket. Performs re-entry as a cohesive mass, before detonating at a pre-set height in an airburst pattern. Fitted with an extensive sensor package and onboard processing suite, and possessive of a direct ASCHLN uplink, to allow for realtime retargeting preceding a "smart detonation". Explosive dispersion is altered to allow for precision-scattering of casing fragments (each of which has a pre-set mass of around 3 kg, and a final flight velocity of around Mach 28 immediately prior to impact). This allows for the infliction of severe damage to enemy personnel, alongside specific vehicles, structures and materiel, within a radius of several hundred meters (variable, depending on detonation altitude). Component synthesis & shell assembly will be handled exclusively by the BDDM.

  • SpecAP-C
    Specialized Anti-Personnel Projectile
Specific to the Armed Republic of the Chuck
    ✧Mass: 4822 kg
    ✧Diameter: 1250 mm
    ✧Length: 2575 mm
    ✧Yield: N/A
    ✧Impact Force: approx. 5.5 x 105 foot pounds

A specialized shell developed under the direction of McAllister Munitions (of the Armed Republic of the Chuck), specifically for the purpose of extreme-range single-target antipersonnel use. The shell's mass is made up primarily of a large, discarding-sabot assembly that acts as a heat-shield during atmospheric exit and reentry, alongside a sophisticated sensor package/targeting node. All this is constructed around a secondary projectile - a wholly ordinary, commercially-manufactured .17 Hornet bullet, provided in industrial quantities by McAllister themselves. This core projectile is fired from the main body of the shell after re-entry, during a compound sequence wherein the sabot is discarded, the flight-path is adjusted by the onboard targeting suite, and a secondary propellant charge accelerates the bullet to around Mach 70. Atmospheric protection is provided by a secondary heat-shield, consisting of an aerogel jacket, which ensures that the projectile may safely reach and impact its target. This shell is intended primarily for priority target elimination, in situations where collateral damage must be kept to a minimum. Component construction & shell assembly is handled primarily by McAllister Munitions.

  • SpecAO-U
    Specialized Anti-Orbital Projectile
Specific to the Kraterocracy of Uvoan
    ✧Mass: 3905 kg
    ✧Diameter: 1250 mm
    ✧Length: 2010 mm
    ✧Yield: 0.8 tonnes of TNT

A specialized shell developed under the direction of the VIMTIG (of the Kraterocracy of Uvoan), specifically for the purpose of ASW and orbital defense. Designed specifically to be lighter and more lenient on barrel heat than most other shell types, it is intended to provide a minimal refire delay between shots. It is also fitted with considerably lighter heat-shields than most other shell subtypes, as its operational bracket does not require atmospheric reentry. At its core is a 210mm compound penetrator, backed by a secondary oxygen-independednt propellant charge, and surrounded by a dual sabot/heat-shield casing. Upon entering orbit and coming close enough to its intended target, the casing is jettisoned, and a secondary firing impulse propels the penetrator towards said target. While its explosive yield is relatively meager, the nature of orbital combat ensures that it remains capable of inflicting sufficient damage to severely compromise and depressurize significant sections of target spacecraft, alongside impeding continued function and integrity of most satellite packages. Component construction & shell assembly is handled primarily by the VIMTIG.
