Why am I a conservative?
They're correct most of the time. They favor business friendly regulations and taxes that are necessary to have a good economy. Their opposition against abortion is laudable because we should protect life. I'm not a Trumper. I'm more of a Reaganite style conservative. The axis of evil that is Russia, Iran, and China should be countered with a robust foreign policy by the free world with the US as the leader.

Great quotes about President George W. Bush, my favorite president.
"Unpopular opinion: George W. Bush is the last president we've had of strong character, and the way both parties have vilified him is shameful." -John Daly

"And while my job involved juggling a lot of balls, I only had to worry about economic issues. In addition to all of those, at any given point in time he [George W. Bush] was making enormous decisions on Iraq and Afghanistan, on hunting al Qaeda and keeping America safe. He was making choices not just on taxes and spending and trade and energy and climate and health care and agriculture and Social Security and Medicare, but also on education and immigration, on crime and justice issues, on environmental policy and social policy and politics. Being able to handle such substantive breadth and depth, on such huge decisions, in parallel, requires not just enormous strength of character but tremendous intellectual power. President Bush has both." -Keith Hennessey

Highways & Transit, K-12 Education, Welfare, and Health care
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to support a public option but Riedl convinced me that health care along with the other three should be devolved to the states.

Please take a look at his summary in this Twitter thread.

You can also google "brian riedl devolution"

Here's some key quotes from Riedl in the Twitter thread
"the best way to address Washington's long-standing, partisan wars is to empower state & local governments to take more control on key issues. For example, 30 years of DC health care wars have flipped control of Congress twice, led to 3 SCOTUS decisions and...resulted in paralysis & just two huge reforms (Medicare D & ACA). But whats the point of Ds & Rs fighting to impose their one-size-fits-all solution on each other?

Why should Dems live in fear of McConnell or Cruz? Why should Rs live in fear of Pelosi or Schumer? Why not let Vermont do single-payer, and let Texas do free market policies? And customize on education, transportation, and, welfare based on local preferences and values?"

Defense
-------------------

I support Linkdefense spending, Here's the key part but I recommend reading both of GTFErinye's comments so that you can understand my view better.

"The US is the only Western nation with the demographics (population size and age), political will, technological capacity, and economic ability to challenge a surging China or resurgent Russia (which inherited the might of the Soviet Union to build off of) on the world stage.

How many Americans would change their tone on military spending if China or Russia were calling the shots on world issues? On spreading their views on governance or human rights? Or if the balance of power shifted so much that more nations decided it was time for them to get nuclear weapons too (imagine Saudi Arabia getting nukes...)?

Out of those top 3 nations, I can damn well tell you who we want to be the clear #1." - GTFErinyes

I'm strongly opposed to efforts to drastically cut defense spending. It makes no sense to move a big portion of the roughly 800 billion from defense to welfare, health care, or whatever else progressives want. It would mean much more dangerous security situation in both Europe and East Asia.
I am open minded to smart bipartisan reductions that are in line with maintaining security throughout the world.

My view on Trump and Biden

I hate Trump and loathe Biden. I gave Biden a chance by voting for him in 2020 and he has been awful. Pretty much most areas I disagree with Biden, border enforcement, oil and gas industry policies for cheap energy, spending, tariffs that aren't Chinese tariffs, Iran, abortion. The 1.9 trillion stimulus was way too much and added to inflation. Biden has done the bare minimum by supporting NATO and Ukraine. If Biden reverses his Iran policy to "maximum pressure" (extremely unlikely to happen) and makes progress on securing Taiwan then he'll earn my vote. I'll probably write-in Greg Abbott in 2024.

By securing Taiwan I mean putting boots on the ground. The US needs a decent sized army there and Taiwan needs to get serious about spending on its defense.
