Saint Charles

History

Founded by english settlers in the mouth of the Golden River on its southern margin, south of the ancient Suzonian city of Ikvassir (Nowdays the neighborhood of Allegra in the island of Orania) in 1622. The region was choosen due to its huge economic potential, as a gateway to inland treasures that the Golden River could bring, such as the gold, silver and diamonds. The first name of the city was "Saint Charles of Ikvassir", the name was choosen because its founder, Peter Morrison was a devotee of Saint Charles Borromeo and decided to honor his patron saint. The first building of the city was the chapel of Saint Charles (Nowdays "Flowers Mall") the Great Market "(Nowdays part of the "Flowers Mall" too), and the City Hall, wich stills in the same place nowdays, but with a totally different architecture.
During the colony of the Golden river, the city was one of the main ports in the Golden River, but not the major in the Nerudy Sea, the major one was the Port of Saint Mary in Saint Mary, that had a direct connection to the colony's capital, the city of Verona, located in the top of the Souther Otianian Plateau, later called the Veronian Plateau. Duo to its fact, the city gathered a lot of attention from the merchants that traded between local colonies and the native empires and people, and in the beggining of the 18'th century was called the "Merchant Inn City". At this point, the old city of Ikvassir in the island of Orania was totally fused with Saint Charles, and the old segregation between settlers and natives has ended, opening a new horizon to economy, culture and politics.
After the end of the "Native Segregation", and the beggining of the Laportian war of independence, the city's economy boomed, attracting a lot of private investors and also government investments, that made the city grow even larger. During the war of independence it was the main hub of the Navy to protect the Nerudy Sea, and ws the HQ of the Independence Forces that wished to entablish a republic, their HQ was located in the Castle of Vittasbourg in the middle of Orania Island.
After the Independece was ended the city entered in a process of stagnation and nothing substantial happened until 1812, during the Laportian Revolution. After the capital city of Verona being invaded by the rebels, the monarchs fled to Saint Charles and hid in the Palace of Calatrava, but later the rebel forces led by Joanne Aikttio got into the city and tried to take them, but they fled to the other side of the Nerudy Sea, New Serrado. During rebel control, the city got a lot of attention from the Revolutionary Forces, a lot of changes happened during this control.

After the Laportian revolution ended and the monarchs have been caught, they were tooken to the central plaza of Calatrava and killed by the revolutionaries that placed they heads on piles for public look. During the government of Joanne Aikttio, she tried to make the city as beauty as possible, and a lot of reforms happened, and a massive urban reform took place, more than 80% of the old city was rebuild to its nowdays look. The Empress wanted to the city her capital, but during the war agains Porto Cristo, the laportian national enemy, their efforts were to win the war. Later after her death and the end of the war, wich led Laporter to victory, Empress Catherine Aikttio took power (daughter of Joanne) and them a lot of great and monumental buildings started to show in Saint Charles, such as the "united of Laporter Station", wich led to the beggining of the Laportian Industrial Revolution, and the born of the train lines over the whole country and the beggining of the Saint Charles subway. Another monumental building is the Golden Palace, the HQ of the Laportian Government, and in this time, the capital moved from Verona to Saint Charles; The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Charles, in the gothic style, the Cathedral of Saint Mary Magdalene in Ville Magdalene, the Great Saint Charles Port and Shipyard, the Orania Tunnel (A tunnel linking the island of Orania and the mainland), The Foster Bridge, crossing the two margins of the Golden River, from Flowers to Foster Valley, The building of the Verona University Campus of Bellas Artes, and the Foster Valley Campus. In the middle XX century, the city passed through a suburban development, wich resulted in the creation of many suburban neighborhoods, and in the heavy use of cars.
