Fairies and other odd creatures

Fairies are small, winged people who live amongst the bushes and small pockets of wildflower in the uninhabited hills of Medulla island. Around 17 or so different types exist, who mostly inhabit different rocks and flowers. They care dearly for their flowers or rocks and tend to polish them with rags made from a seemingly endless supply of socks that end up in their area. Fairies originally either came from another world entirely or a meteor from space, nobody seems entirely sure. Whatever the case is, they are generally friendly with humans and animals, especially local ones. Having said that, should you step within their ring (a ring being their living area, sort of like a village) or simply disturb or abuse them they will make swift work of you through their extensive knowledge of poisons.

Aside from fairies, it is known for a small variety of cats that wear top hats and occasionally walk on their hind legs for extended periods of time using sticks. Their origin may be partially responsible from Wanda the wild, a rebel girl who stole aristocratic holy empire leaders hats and gifted them to cats. Having said that cat's are often considered to be able to take on human characteristics, however for the moment this remains folklore.

Another odd creature of note is a small population of Great Auks that have developed the ability to talk. Great Auks are not native, penguins are, but a small colony live in the swimming pool in the coastal park on Medulla, and through communicating and being around humans they have learned the language of English. Their knowledge is limited, but they can make basic conversation. Arguments tend to dissolve into them squawking and pecking, however, although they are surprisingly adept at making political arguments and may one day be allowed abroad to campaign for civil rights.

A more recent introduction are the Bi-plane bugs. These were toy bi-planes experimented on by the Meridian commonwealth and given basic animalistic features. They were just intended to be an experiment, however the queen of Spears Kingdom at the time decided she liked them, so they were sent out to live in the forests of Medulla island. They grow in lightbulb shaped cocoons, and generally live for up to 5 years or so. However, tourists and collectors have reduced their already low population number due to their oddness, and they have nearly gone extinct several times. Luckily, they still survive today, despite a recent population drop. They do not need to eat, surviving on a small battery that lasts about 5 years.
