Wym on Defence

Hello again everyone. I've seen a few proposals about defence coming out from the other candidates and I would just like to take the opportunity to address these proposals and give my own opinions on Thalassia's defence.
So, first, why am I opposed to the creation of a raider force?
Well its simple and can be summed up in a few short points:

• We must remember our heritage. Pacifica was founded after Topic's home had been raised by the NPO, do we wish to align ourselves with the same ideology that drove Pacifica's founder from his home

• Raiding is a saturated market, everyone does it and realistically we would be a very small fish in a very big pond. Defending is a much smaller market right now and maybe we could establish ourselves there?

• I don't think the destruction of other communities fits very well with our regions values, those who propose it don't know how far this military would go, would it refound, occupy or just tag raid? They don't have the answers and that worries me.

• Finally, I would like to point out that we don't actually have many people experienced in R/D here. We have Cormac, who's feelings on this I am not sure of but as he seems to want to take a back seat in GP rn I doubt he would participate, myself, I would refuse to participate in a raider military as I think it goes against our values and that is about everyone we have that has high level R/D experience.

So, what would I do with regards to defence and a Thalassian military.
Well its simple, Thalassia doesn't need a military right now.
Why not you say?
To me it is clear, we need to focus on other things right now, we need to focus on building a solid foundation as a community, we need to focus on taking Pacifica's progress and turning it into Thalassia's tomorrow.
Having been in most the major regions in NS at one time or another, I can say without hesitation that our intelligence department is without equal. Although I cannot go into much detail due to the classified nature of its work, I can assure all Thalassians, we are not in danger. Not while our founder exists and our Intelligence department is so strong.
So why do we need a military?
To attack other regions and destroy their communities?
To take attention away from the more important task of building this community?
I think we can all agree that, based on the facts, we don't really need a military right now.
