Relationship theory

Here's a link to the Mzeusian Library which has every dispatch.

Here's a link to The Dispatch Writing Guide to help you write a good dispatch.

This is a theory of relationships proposed by one of Mzeusia's leading experts in the field, Helimes Archilon. This is however, not a modern theory and fails to take into account the changed world created by technology.

Why do romantic relationships exist?

Firstly, what do humans want out of life?

  • To be accepted and cared for by other humans

  • To be happy and safe from harm

  • To not cause unnecessary harm to other humans

  • Reproduction

Relationships

  • Mean two people care for each other

  • Gives them happiness

  • It doesn’t inherently cause harm to any of them

  • It offers the chance a reproduction

Therefore, humans seek romantic relationships with each other. They can get the first three points from a friendship, but they will not get sex, so they need to become romantically involved with someone to fulfil all four things. That is why they exist in the first place, because certain things are wanted, and romantic relationships are the most efficient way of getting them.

How do romantic relationships form?
Firstly, people assess a potential mate based on whether that person can give them acceptance and care, safety and happiness, and children.

To make a deeper, more through assessment of a potential mate, we get to know them and that way we can assess whether they can provide what we need. If someone says they can do two-hundred press-ups we know that they can provide us with safety. If someone says that don’t care about us, they we know that they would not be suitable.

If all goes well, both people will assess each other until satisfied with the other person and begin a romantic relationship.

Why are romantic relationships maintained?
If both people are happy and getting all four things, then why should they take the risk of breaking that relationship to be with someone else when things might not work out. Why fix what isn’t broken?

If one or both of them cannot have sex for whatever reason, and the relationship is still maintained, this can be explained by society. Society has not said that couples in a romantic relationship have to have sex so therefore people stop caring about that as much although possibly not completely. It is nevertheless not relationship-ending.

In order for a relationship to be maintained, the couple must speak to each other and know that the other person will support them and understands them.

Why do romantic relationships breakdown?
Romantic relationships break down because there has not been enough investigation of the other person during the forming stage. If certain important things were not revealed, like infertility, then a relationship could break down.
If a long-term romantic relationship breaks down, this is because the partners do not feel like they can air their problems to the other person. Trust has broken down for whatever reason.

Another reason is suspicion. We want to keep our romantic partners and we don’t usually like to share them. If that person is seeing someone else, then that takes away their time and energy and resources. We therefore are not benefiting as much as we could do, and the relationship is no longer optimal. (also if one person is busy this will have the same effect no matter what they are busy doing).

Questions

  • What about homosexual couples? Why do they form romantic relationships?
There is a certain genetic code sequence in homosexuals that gets passed on. Most gay people throughout history have not been openly gay so they would be able to pass on their genes.
