World Trade ThaeChronicles

A walk through New Elizabeth is unlike any other in Thaecia. Although poverty is scarce there are other tensions between different groups of people. There is a sharp contrast between different parts of town. You find neat shops and parks that are sponsored by a major pharmaceutical company; behind this charming facade you find dark alleys where you find shattered bottles of vodka, a favourite national drink along with Sake. Discarded cigarettes are more than commonplace. World Trade is notorious for an incompetent and corrupt police force. However it is debatable if anyone really cares. They only care if their children are caught committing crime as that is where lifetime punishments are sentenced. No the police are not to be blamed for this as they just blatantly disregard whatever the Old Brussian youth do. Society excludes families which have been found to have been ‘bad parents’. The government does not intervene and the major cases of disappearance have been linked to private corporations. It is important to note that these investigations were foreign.
People refer to this country as ‘The worlds of Trade’ as it lingers on the brink of anarchy. It is almost impossible to find a government building which does not bear the graffiti of a local gang. The government spending that does exist is spent on defence, industry, education and healthcare. The nation takes great pride of its rankings on the human development index as well as the intelligence index. The judiciary is outlawed in favour of a ‘fix disputes yourself’ approach. The law in essence is little more than a recommendation. In political campaigns, the Liberty party presents itself as benign whereas the communists are in favour of a firmer grip. The Cyrillic named party mainly aims to represent secessionist and resonate with the ‘I hate the government’ part of the public. The problem with their strategy is that although this group nears half of the population, a large amount are nihilists and so do not go out and vote. The liberty party appeals to the corporatists and the people who are worried enough about corporate surveillance that they flinch at the idea of government surveillance.
Although society is tough on so called ‘bad parenting’, it has managed to push through other policies which are very controversial. The ban on contact sports has been found to contribute to excessive drinking. Smoking is prohibited although it is not enforced so it is not uncommon to see citizens smoking. AIs are allowed to be citizens although they are not allowed to vote due to fears of corruption, of which an extraordinary percentage of the human population approve. The human population is not biologically produced so their DNA is harvested to take the good traits of everyone to create the next generation of human beings. The population has an ID chip administered to them so those submitted to these requirements are subject to a relatively capable police force. The judiciary and imprisonment is strictly illegal and the only way to face what is traditionally considered justice is extradition, which rarely occurs.
World Trade is widely considered an economic powerhouse, the NSEI (Nation State Economic Index) gives it 100/100 and excels with economic freedoms. This is evident in the constant infrastructure developments around the country. However, the nation’s goal of achieving autarky is somewhat hindered by, what some conservative commentators describe as, a poor too rich to work as the nation’s backbone. This means that a lot of the resources, especially builders, are supplied from other developing nations looking for a better life in World Trade. Tokyo, the largest city, has moved on from a city of slums to a high-tech leader and in charge of many of the scientific advancements in World Trade. A universal healthcare system is implemented, a rare sight in a country as wealthy as this. Firearms can be found in many places, but since there is mandatory military service the majority of the nation believes that most firearms are held by responsible adults. Trophy hunting has become a popular hobby after the recent ban of contact sport. Many that enjoy the sport say that it is one of the finer things. The national animal, the great prince charles, is on the brink of extinction making getting it is very appealing and even a picture can sell for millions of crypto-pounds.
War ravages significant parts of the population and you see groups of people in riot police gear with a soda brand on their Kevlar vests dragging away an unidentifiable person. Cancer is a huge issue so the government invests marginally more in the healthcare system than it would have. Unfortunately, only 14.4% of people in World Trade die of old age and heart disease is a major issue here too. Nuclear spills take 0.6% of the nation’s annual deaths, a consequence of the complete trust of nuclear power. Suicide in police custody exceeds the rate of many nations but peaks at 0.5% of deaths annually, averaging at 0.3%.
World Trade is an instrumental nation in Thaecia being active on the RMB and on discord, he also regularly run in elections.

In conclusion, World Trade is a benchmark for human rights and political freedoms but many consider this government a bit too small since corporations have taken control unofficially. A strong economy keeps people financially stable but the tensions are not based on financial status but more on political beliefs. However, the Liberty Party has dominated local politics. In Thaecia, World Trade is an active nation and is one of the older nations. An intelligent, developed populace has led to some of the reasons as to way World Trade is as free as it is. However, mistakes are costly and childhoods can haunt the citizens for a long time to come. A weak police force has led to a large gang presence and a harsh society. A strong economy and high wages contribute to happy citizens that have an abundance of civil rights and political freedoms. World Trade is a very unique nation without doubt and I hope it continues to flourish as it has until now.
