Kadrian (Athmeri)

Kadria, as one of four planets orbiting the young star Kenaz, serves as the homeworld of the Kadrians (or Athmer, as they sometimes refer to themselves). 45% of the surface is covered by the Waking Sea, the largest body of water on all Kadria, and the source of much of Kadrian tradition and culture. Rather than spreading out across the mountainous supercontinent of Keldavidr, the Kadrians live in walled city-fortresses in the deep, broad valleys of the Coastal, Dragontail, and Direnni Ranges - first as fiercely independent city-states, and then as the Allied Holds under the Pact of Firstmarch. There is almost no traditional farmland on Kadria, as much of the highly-fertile soil has been taken over by dense boreal forest or thick volcanic flows from one of the many stratovolcanoes in the Central Range. Yes - For all of the water and life on Kadria, the planet is still young - massive tectonic activity still continues below the service, creating frequent earthquakes, volcanoes, and ashfalls, while grounding turbined aircraft for months on end.

Kadrians

The Kadrians or Athmeri of Kadria are a lithe humanoid-type species, with pointed ears, and fine facial features, resembling the elves of human mythology. Kadrians are also on average slightly taller than humans, at 6 and a half feet, or 1.98 meters. Their skin tones range from fair to light brown, while their hair color varies, the most common being various shades of brown, to red, and even a deep black. Eye color runs the gamut, blue, green, silver, and gold being the most common eye colors.

Kadrian culture resembles that of the Vikings, being the masters of the Waking Sea on their homeworld. The Kadrian society instills a sense of honor from a young age, teaching both Kadrian men and women to be strong and wise warriors. The Kadrian government has been combined with the Chimeri and Ellanorean governments to form the Fyrd, but for the most part, the Kadrian government remains in its original form. A small village, governed by a thane, belongs to one of the Ten Holds of Kadria. Each of the Ten Holds is ruled by a Jarl. Twenty more Holds exist off-world evenly split between the Councillors of Resdayn and the High Lords of Eleanore. Ebonheart, as the oldest city-fortress in existence and the capital of the Imperium, is known as the First Hold of Kadria.

The harsh climate of Kadria has shaped the race. Centuries of warfare has refined the Kadrian body, causing the muscles to become more defined, and the Kadrian seasons have improved their resistance to extreme climates. Their strength and endurance is above average, allowing the Kadrians to climb the well-over 15 m tall trees of their homeworld.

Kadrians are mainly carnivorous, supplying their diet with plants to acquire the few nutrients they cannot acquire through meat. Kadrian teeth are fanged, in order to accommodate their diet by allowing the Kadrians to consume the tough flesh of Keldavidri fauna. While food poisoning is a concern for most humanoids, Kadrians are known to be able to consume rotting meat with little to no ill effects - the Athmer evolved to have a strong immune system and an organ dedicated to filtering toxins out of the blood, rendering them immune to most diseases and toxins. However, with the founding of the Imperium, most Kadrians have chosen to stick with preserved foods.

The Kadrian senses are fine-tuned to find prey: their eyesight and hearing are superior to most species, while their sense of smell is strong enough to detect most living beings in a 10-meter radius.

Kadrians can live for centuries, and completely mature at 20 years. They reach sexual maturity at that time, their reproductive systems being the last to develop. Mature Kadrians give off a distinct scent, undetectable to most species, that plays a huge part in reproduction. Using this scent, Kadrians determine who has the best compatibility with themselves and court the best match, not necessarily restricted to gender or species. Often these matches are their closest friends, making friendship extremely important in Kadrian culture. After a 7-month pregnancy, Kadrian women give birth to live young, averaging 1-3 children per pregnancy.
