The Chitz Intervention

OOC note:
This article portrays the NS war known as the Chitze Revolution under the perspective of the Black Hand, therefore elements of what other nations did, or other fronts involved will be lacking.

The Chitze Intervention

The Chitz Intervention proved to be one of the most auspicious times of the development of The Black Hand of Nod in the NS universe. From the start of a humble Revolt and Revolution to a full scale war by multiple great powers of the 2006-2007 Nationstates World, the Chitz War proved to be a dramatic, and in many cases, a brutal conflict that even today is still spoken of in fond remembrance of those who fought in it.

For the Black Hand the Chitz Revolution proved to cement themselves as a major power willing to go up against a major world power and fight them to the point where they could no longer see a victory. This same victory also led to the Black Hand establishing a stable power base in multiple nations and, on the downside, promise to bring forth a multiple unresolved conflicts that even to this day are frozen under the surface of the shattered remnants of what was once a stable nation.

Origins
The origin of the Black Hand intervention was a mixture of reasons, but the lead reason falls back to to existing contacts and allies of the Black Hand who had entangled themselves in the conflict for their own reasons. The primary nation that motivated the Black Hand to act was a request by their regional ally The Lone Alliance who's efforts in the war to serve as a peacekeeping force had proved to be woefully insufficient against the entry of the war by The Parthians as well as the destabilizing situation brought upon by the relentless advance by Emperor pudu against the eastern half of the nation. It was in this chaos that the Black Hand received an official contract request from their second primary arms supplier The Leafanistan Mafia, an organized crime syndicate that had been paid by Hurtful Thoughts to train and equip the local forces to fight against the Parthian invasion.

The war involved multiple factions on multiple sides which involved in the war included a coalition of multiple nations under the lead of Wanderjar, a mercenary force lead by Hurtful Thoughts and their own allies, off and on actions by the nation of Zanski, and actions by the nation of Dephire who was an off and on ally of nearly every side over the course of the war. Against this scattered alliance of nations stood the powerful NS Empires of Emperor Pudu and Parthia, both nations well known for being military and political powerhouses who were utterly ruthless to their enemies.

These two obligations led the Black Hand to engage in both contracts, eager to show their strength against a worthy opponent, the Black Hand agreed and quickly activated the full force of the Black Hand with the intent of driving out all occupying powers who weren't part of their contract, this course of action would later prove to cause multiple causes of undue strain between the Black Hand and their Leafanistan and Hurtful allies, who due to the increasingly impractical odds had agreed to a non-Aggression pact with Emperor Pudu who's forces had agreed to split the country in two.

Actions against Pudu
Due to the confusing fog of war situation, the Black Hand acted against the nation of Emperor Pudu in ignorance of the non-aggression pact that Hurtful Thoughts and the others of the coalition had signed against them, and so while the attempts at supply interdiction, unrestricted submarine warfare were attempted against Pudite forces, these actions were done in defiance to the official position by the Black Hand's allies who, at the time, were more busy turning their focus to deal with the growing Parthian invasion. In the end despite several attempts at sinking supply convoys with a mixture of Q-ships, attack Submarines, and aircraft the Black Hand were forced to abandon operations against Pudu despite the Black Hand in itself never signing a non-aggression pact with the Pudites.

Operations in Western Chitzeland
The Black Hand's first operations were in low scale logistics support on behalf of their Leafanistan allies, the Black Hand providing Camouflage and military aid to the training of the Chitz people as the Black Hand attempted to size up the situation and implement their own plans of attack while awaiting further funding from their allies. As the coalition offensive against Pudu ground down to a halt in the end the vast majority of the Coalition was forced to withdraw from the already heavily damaged nation due to the loss of the eastern portion of the country.

Defense and Destruction of Shetterdan
The city of Shetterdan had originally been under the Zanski defensive network but as the coalition collapsed Parthia, who had already repeatedly bombarded the city with heavy conventional and chemical bombardment were soon ready to overrun the city even as the last of the Wanderjar forced began their own major pull out. In the power vacuum left behind the Black Hand escalated their efforts, the efforts joined by Ustia as they attempted to keep the Southern front from collapsing around them to no avail.
Without the military support of Wanderjar and the others Shetterdan was a lost cause and under the cover of last ditch air and artillery strike, Black Hand miners proceeded to fill the already rubble filled city with concealed explosives, making certain to pack the main sewer system to the brim with whatever ordinance the Black Hand could get a hold of. The results were devastating, when Parthian forces entered the city, led by one of the Shah's elite Immortals Division, the bombs were donated, the chain reaction of explosions shattering the foundations of what was left of the already ruined city before sending whatever was left of the rubble of the port city into the sea itself, leaving nothing more than a scattered saltwater marsh of rubble in it's wake and wiping out nearly the entire Immortals division in the process.

The destruction of Hakkan and the continuing invasion
Despite the utter destruction of Shetterdan and the continued hard pressing attacks to the east by Hurtful forces the Shah was not willing to give up the fight yet, and in order to avenge the deaths of his elite fighting force he promised massive retaliation against the Black Hand and the few remaining nations holding together in Western Chitzeland. The Nod staging base in the city of Hakkan was targeted for total annihilation as Parthian ICBMs from their homeland responded with a large scale bombardment of cluster missiles soon joined by Aircraft from the Parthian fleet on the southern coast of Chitzeland. With the combined force from the countless bombardments the city of Hakkan was effectively reduced to rubble along with most of the civilians, fighters, and even Black Hand operatives in the city... the Black Hand supply base in itself was also completely destroyed leaving the Black Hand suffering from a light supply shortage.

Betrayal and full commitment
Thankfully it was at this time that the latest Black Hand reinforcements arrived along with some of their own more exotic fighting forces, the Templars. At this situation things turned increasingly dire as Dephirian forces turned on their former allies and allied with Pudu and Parthia under the psychic control of Yuri, a menacing psychic that the Black Hand had heard of but had yet to see before now. In the ensuring chaos within Dephire the Dephirian war machine folded and withdrew towards their claimed territory... much to the Black Hand's displeasure. In the same moment the nation of Zanski also fell into infighting due to internal war weariness causing their own remaining forces to flee the nation leaving the Coalition all but dissolved leaving the last holdouts against the Parthian Juggernaut being the nations of Hurtful Thoughts, Ustia, and of course the by now fully committed forces of The Black Hand of Nod. Compared to the might of Parthia it was fairly clear that the odds were no longer in their favor, and with the growing war weariness and loss of patience among commanders, nations, and even fellow soldiers were wearing thin on all sides... something had to change and it had to be a decisive change or otherwise this war would never end.

Preparation for Automati
As the war ground on Parthia continued to attempt to advance north from their landing positions on the southern coast of Chitzeland, with their advances in the east going up against constant Hurtful resistance their advance along the west coast would eventually lead to the next city on the path, a city known as Automati, Automati had been relatively untouched by the war due to being in between the front lines and, with the news of widescale genocide by Parthia being spread far and wide by people, by the time of the battle had been effectively abandoned by the locals. It was decided then that it would be here that the decisive battle would be laid into place to decide the fate of the western front, to make or break the Parthian advance once and for all.

It was here that the Black Hand fully deployed the full might of their arsenal, from their obsolete tanks, to their most high tech weaponry of the cybernetically enhanced Templars and the anti-tank disc throwers. Behind them the rest of the Black Hand artillery as well as the remnants of the naval forces still in the campaign had laid in wait along with the Black Hand's own artillery and orbital bombardment capabilities. The various forces dug in north of the city along with their Ustian allies and awaited the Parthian advance, eager to make the city and the land around it their final stand against the Parthian advance.

Battle of Automati
The Battle of Automati opened up with the Parthian deploying the vast majority of their artillery around the southern entrance of the city in the preparation of bombarding it to rubble, having already realized that advancing into the city would only prove to give the Black Hand the advantage in urban and underground combat the Parthians simply decided to bombard the city to rubble and go around it instead. It was to the east and north that the battle was joined, Nod dispatching a force of heavy tanks to occupy the Parthian forces before deploying their Templar's while the tanks were otherwise engaged. As the ground battle opened up a large scale artillery duel began between both forces, the Parthian heavy artillery pounding the Black Hand positions as well as their own Templar force, however the addition of the Disc Throwers soon threw the Parthian tank advance into a deadly situation as the large scale shaped charges began destroying the landscape and the tanks themselves. In addition to the entrenched Nod force the Ustian military also engaged with their own conventional forces, the combined arsenal and airstrikes of both forces soon turning the battle into a chaotic mess of destruction as the front lines threw themselves at one another. Parthia attempted to further flank them but this just threw their forces into a greater kill box as the combined forces unloaded upon them.

The Battle Ends
It was at this moment that the last of the Nod naval force attacked with their own arsenal of missile, soon joined by a full scale orbital bombardment against the Parthian artillery positions and the waiting Parthian naval vessels, the combined strikes crippled the long range capabilities of the Parthian military and as the airstrikes from Ustia joined in the combined force was enough to turn the tide completely. As the last of the Parthian artillery fell silent the Chitzeland trained force attacked through the ruined rubbles of the city, their obsolete tanks and equipment hitting the Parthian rear lines to destroy their logistics equipment as well as whatever remained of their artillery, with the Parthian rear collapsing the remaining Parthian troops had no other option but to flee the battlefield under the protection of what was left of Parthia's navy. The battle had been won but the costs had been high, Automati had joined the other cities of Chitzeland as a blackened shell of it's former self and the Nod forces involved had taken heavy losses in the heavy back and forth fighting in the hills east of the city. The Nod naval forces engaged had been nearly annihilated by Parthian naval fire and far fewer aircraft returned than had set out. But despite all that a victory was a victory and as Nod forces celebrated the Nod Banner was raised over the ruins of the city.

Parthian Retreat and the end of the war.
After the decisive battle of Automati, the rest of the war was resolved rather suddenly, the sudden loss of nearly all of Parthia's long range artillery combined with a second defeat in the east by Hurtful forces soon meant that the war front could no longer be maintained by Parthia, and so pursued by Black Hand, Ustian, and PROHT forces, Parthia retreated to the ruins of the cities of Ort and Shetterdan and rapidly evacuated their forces, leaving only a token force behind to be promptly and swiftly defeated by the remaining troops of the Coalition. With this the war for western Chitzeland was nearly over, even a late born attempt by Zanski to re-stake a claim of the country was rebuffed by Dephiran, Pudite, and Hurtful challenges until at last, the final lines over the nation were drawn and the war was settled.

Western Chitzeland was free and while the Black Hand continued to protest the presence of Dephire and Pudu, no action was to be taken against them... at least at that point in time. For now, peace would reign and in the aftermath the Black Hand would reap the spoils of war.

Aftermath
The Black Hand claims of Chitzeland were subtle and openly there was no evidence that the Black Hand even remained a presence in the area. Their armies lurked for a time but eventually the vast majority of the Black Hand moved on, leaving behind only a token force, but under this force they began to rebuild over the shattered ruins of these cities in their own image. Outside of Chitzeland the alliance with Hurtful proved to be a most profitable one for, as per agreement, part of the arrangement was the establishment of New Roanoke Industries on the island of the same name, a well protected island located within Hurtful Thoughts. This company provided a perfect mask of legitimacy that the Black Hand had been lacking for so long as they lurked in the shadows. It also provided them with a legal financial means to motivate other factions as well as establish a means to transfer money between the Black Hand and other various front organizations.
