The People's Republic of Pagasa is a huge, safe nation, renowned for its public floggings, punitive income tax rates, and suspicion of poets. The compassionate, democratic population of 285 million Pagasans are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The large, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Education, Welfare, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 61.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but sluggish Pagasan economy, worth 6.33 trillion Pagasian Isperas a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is mostly made up of the Trout Farming industry, with significant contributions from Book Publishing, Information Technology, and Retail. Average income is 22,207 Pagasian Isperas, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

100-year-old politicians are now a thing of the past, the military is researching proton packs and PK-meters to combat "unseen enemy forces", the constant playing of Merry Birthday on Pagasan radio has led to calls for the song to be classified as a crime against humanity, and the nationalised Arms Manufacturing Industry is not interested in making weapons. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Pagasa's national animal is the Bear, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Pagasa is ranked 132,300th in the world and 833rd in The Communist Bloc for Largest Publishing Industry, scoring 1,568.92 on the Bella Potter Productivity e-Index.
