Emergency services

The Emergency Services are not concerned by the vehicle ban laws.

Emergency services of the nation are distributed into 7 "Units" :

Unit 1 : Rescue
The Rescue Unit is composed of the Fire Services (Services Incendies (F), Feuerwehren (D) ) and some local services. The colors of the vehicles of this Unit are Red and Yellow.

Unit 2 : Medical
The Medical Unit is mostly composed of the Ambulance Services and Emergency Medical Doctors (Services Ambulanciers et Médecins Urgentistes (F), Ambulanz un Notartz(-in) (D) ). The colors of the vehicles of this Unit are Green and Yellow.

Unit 3 : Security
The Security Unit is composed of 4 different civil "police" services, two "Gendarmerie", one for the French and one the German speaking area; and the "Garda" for the English speaking area; the last service is named "Federal Police" (Police Fédérale (F)/Bundespolizei (D) ) and may work in the whole country or make the oder services work together.
The colors of the vehicles of this Unit are :
- Gendarmerie (F) : Light Blue, Yellow and White;
- Gendarmerie (D) : Dark Blue, Orange and Black;
- Garda : Black, Yellow and white;
- Federal Police : Royal Blue, Yellow and White;
The Capital city has a special "Gendarmerie" service that is like the french speaking ones, but with the word "Garda" next to "Gendarmerie".
Special vehicles may be of other colors.

Unit 4 : Logistics and special operations
This Unit is mostly composed of the Technical Aid And Civil Protection / TAACP (Urgences Techniques et Protection Civile / UTPC (F), Technisches Hilfs und Zivilschutz / THZ (D) ). The colors of the vehicles of this Unit are White and Orange.

Unit 5 : Road assistance.
This Unit is mostly composed of tow truck and private-owned halping vehicles, and regional road network manager service. The vehicles are colored by the companies but must be with black and yellow battenburg on at least 50% of the vehicle.

Unit 6 : Army.
Only to help another unit or into the region.

Unit 7 : Press and Media.
Each Unit must have a dedicated department only to inform the press in case of major issues.

The emergency lights are blue (not available for private Unit 5 vehicles); a green light is placed onto commanding vehicle on any incident with more than 5 vehicles; Unit 3 and 5 has red light meaning "stop" or "closed". Most vehicle has amber lights meaning "caution".
