Years of Expansion

After taking power over Cedoria, Chairman Vallance would prove to be the longest ruling, and most effective, leader in Cedorian history. Initially regarded as a puppet of the hardline faction, he proved the doubters wrong by rapidly asserting control of the Armed Forces and the security apparatus. This ensured the Party would never again be vulnerable to an internal coup. Vallance's early years of rule led to massive economic growth, rapid industrialisation and urbanisation and steady improvement in living standards. Average income, life expectancy and the self-assessed life satisfaction of Cedorians rose dramatically during this period. Increased trade with other socialist states helped to fuel a growing economy, child poverty was virtually ended, as were a number of easily preventable diseases. The educational system became renowned as one of the world's best, with the healthcare system not far behind. Militarily, Chairman Vallance's reforms definitively transformed the People's Revolutionary Armed Forces into a more modern, professionalised military force. A modern airforce began to be developed, as did a blue water navy.

The most significant signs of this new progress were two fundamental achievements of the early decades of Vallance's rule. Firstly, The People's Republic of Cedoria became a recognised nuclear weapons state, securing its deterrence capabilities against its enemies. Secondly, the National Space Program made many astounding leaps in satellite launches, probes, manned space flight, and a manned space station for civilian research purposes. These were all symbols of Cedoria's growing economic and strategic power.

Internationally, this period was marked by a rapid increase in Cedorian funding and support for armed revolutionary movements around the world. The fall of the Soviet Union left Cedoria as the leading Socialist state, putting it in a position to exploit its leadership of the international socialist movement. Wars with Bosakia and Yukebia extended Cedorian influence, the second being formally annexed as a new province in Cedoria, and numerous civil wars abroad resulted in Cedorian interference and support for revolutionary factions. These efforts to ferment revolution were mostly successful. So much so that the major world powers had begun seeing Cedoria as a threat.

The end of this period saw the People's Republic of Cedoria fend off its first invasion, from neighbouring Maitea. The imperial government collapsed and a friendly socialist government installed in Maitea. Cedorian economic and trade relations with Asia-Pacific nations in its own region began to grow.

The prosperity of rapid economic growth through the industrialisation and modernisation of the Cedorian economy would come to a grinding halt however, and the difficult times that would follow spelled new dangers.
