The Kingdom of Anglia is a constitutional monarchy located in the northern and eastern regions of modern-day England. It traces its origins to the Battle of Tamworth in which King Æthelred of Mercia defeated Alfred the Great, securing the unification of the Angles under Mercian rule. The capital of Anglia is Tamworth, a historic town that played a crucial role in the nation's foundation.

History

Anglia emerged from the Heptarchy era when Mercia, one of the dominant Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, defeated its main rival Wessex in the decisive Battle of Tamworth. King Æthelred's victory over Alfred the Great united the Angles, while Alfred consolidated the remaining Saxon and Jutish territories into a separate kingdom, later known as Saxland.

Although initially rivals, Anglia and Saxland entered into a peace treaty, ensuring stability between the two nations. Both kingdoms coexisted in relative harmony, with their distinct cultures influencing one another over the centuries.

Geography

Tamworth serves as the capital of Anglia, located at the historic crossroads of the old Mercian kingdom. Anglia enjoys a temperate maritime climate, similar to the rest of the British Isles, with fertile lands and a long coastline.

Culture

Anglia's culture reflects its deep Angle roots. The nation's national colors—blue, gold, and red—symbolize royalty, strength, and tradition. The white-tailed eagle is the national animal, representing sharp vision and strength. Festivals celebrating Anglia's rich history, such as the annual reenactment of the Battle of Tamworth, remain popular throughout the country.

Religion

Before the pivotal Battle of Tamworth, King Æthelred of Mercia experienced a profound spiritual transformation that would alter the course of his reign and the kingdom itself. In the days leading up to the battle, Æthelred is said to have encountered a wandering mystic who introduced him to the teachings of Sethian Gnosticism—a belief system centered on the idea of divine knowledge, the transcendence of material existence, and a path toward spiritual liberation. This mystical encounter convinced Æthelred that his destiny was not only to unite the Angles but to guide his people toward enlightenment. Following his victory over Alfred the Great, Æthelred publicly embraced Sethian Gnosticism, and under his leadership, the entire kingdom of Anglia began to adopt the faith. Temples and schools devoted to the pursuit of gnosis were established, and the royal court integrated Gnostic principles into governance. Within a generation, Anglia had become a fully Gnostic nation, its people bound not only by a shared heritage but by a spiritual quest for divine knowledge.

Government

Anglia is a Constitutional Monarchy, with a parliamentary system in place. The monarch, King Lennart, serves as a ceremonial figurehead, while the elected Parliament of Anglia governs day-to-day affairs. The royal family traces its lineage back to the ancient Mercian kings.

Military

Anglia maintains a modern military focused on defence and international peacekeeping. The Sethian Guard, an elite unit, is named in honour of the capital’s pivotal role in Anglia’s founding.

Economy

Anglia’s economy thrives on a balance between modern industries and traditional agriculture. Key sectors include manufacturing, finance, and international trade, with Tamworth serving as an economic hub in the region.
