Military Expansion and City-State War

Military Expansion:

During the years of 2033-2070 (1933-1970) there was a military expansion of Aeolist as a response to Hyphoonian expansion in the mid-2030s (1930s). As a response, under President Douglas Karin, the Aeolistite military expanded it's reach. This outreach caused some divide with some neighboring city-states which felt threatened by the military ramp up. In lieu of this, a military alliance between the city states of Rismal City, Andale, Riverpool, Roswell, and Sierra Ursa to the east of Aeolist. They created the alliance called, The New Rismalian Republic was founded in 1933 (1833), and tried to ally with Fremont and Linton in the south, but these city states refused. The war between the Southern Alliance allied with The New Rismalian Republic and Aeolist from 2034-2038 (1934-1938) due to the an increased paranoia starting in 2033 with Aeolist's militarization.

City-State War:

In lieu of Aeolist's militarization, the Southern Alliance was created in 2033. Alongside the New Rismali Republic, the Southern Alliance decided to put a stop to Aeolist's militarization. This initially became stalemated through the months of September 2034 - April 2035. This was broken up when the New Rismali Republic strategically attacked from the east in late April of 2035 with funding from Hyphoon. Aeolist was on the defensive from May 2035 - August 2035. On 22nd of August, a decisive victory was gained at the Battle of Loweville (central Aeolist). This put both the Southern Alliance and the New Rismali Republic on the defensive for the rest of the war.

The Southern Alliance was first defeated because of the significant industrial power that they had. As such, in September 2035, a full invasion led by General Alan Gaddis and Nick Styffe led a relatively equal fight in the beginning of this front. The battle of Production City (January 2036) led a breakthrough in this front for the eventual sieges of Linton and Fremont. First, the siege of Linton occurred in February of 2036 and lasted only two days from 20th to the 22nd of February. The siege of Fremont occurred from 3rd to the 7th of March. This ended the southern front battles which turned the Aeolistite military's focus towards the Eastern front.

The New Rismali Republic after the the decisive victory of Loweville, there was a standoff for a brief time as the Aeolistite focused on the Southern Alliance. After the defeat the of the Southern Alliance in March of 2036 (1936), the Aeolistite gathered reinforcements on the Eastern front. In late March, early April, of 2036, the Aeolistite forces pushed on the New Rismalian Republic front. This was led by Generals Don Kujacich and Devin Aulcino who tried to aggressively take the city-states in a decisive amount of time like the Southern Front Generals. The issue was that all forces of the city-states committed to fighting for every inch. The battles of Riverpool, Andale, and Roswell took months to get all three of these city-states.

From April 2036 until February of 2037, the siege of Riverpool, Andale, and Roswell took place. For three months, Riverpool was under siege, and surrendered once Aeolistites had breached the city's wall. Alongside the siege of Riverpool, the siege of Andale took place from June of 2036 until October of 2036. With the full conquering of the city occurring by late October, and with the city captured, the forces of Aeolist reconvened at Andale. Roswell, alongside Rismali forces, countered attacked at Andale. Resistance forces slowed hindered the defense of the city, but not enough for Rismali forces to capture the city. As this was happening, poor siege tactics alongside sick and injured, the death count for Rismali forces rose. The counter attack lasted until December of 2037, where Rismali forces withdrew to Roswell. Aeolist, with reinforcements in toe, sieged the city with overwhelming odds. The city lasted for two and half months where skirmishes outside the city were holding off Aeolistite forces.

Resistance within the conquered cities were strong, Aeolist drew forces in to quell the resistance in March of 2037. New Rismal tried for one final push on Aeolist, gathering a force of 100,000, with most troops being unskilled troops from farmers to factory workers. With most skilled troops being kept in Rismal City and Sierra Ursa, the GRA (Grand Rismalian Army) was led by General Austin Wilson. A relentless siege of Aeolistite territory of southern Rismal had led to the deadliest year of fighting in the course of the war. With total losses being at 76,000, Aeolist loosing 12,000, and Rismal loosing 64,000 troops, the most Rismal had lost in the entire war.

Both Sierra Ursa and Rismal City took considerable time to capture as both city-states had cultural centers of Rismal that Aeolist didn't want to destroy as to preserve the historical nature of these cities. As an attempt to peacefully capture the cities, the Aeolistite government from February of 2038 (1938) to July of 2038, the Aeolistite government tried to starve out the cities. They blocked roads and railways leading into the cities, though the government of Hyphoon was giving food supplies to these city-states through airdrops. This led to sanctions on Hyphoon, and a lengthy battle for Sierra Ursa that lasted from July to October of 2038 which ended in a treaty. Later a battle on the outskirts of Rismal City from September to November of 2038 occurred. Most of the fighting force for Rismal City deserted or died which led to the peace talks. The treaties from both was combined to create the Aeolist-Rismal Treaty in December 2038 which officially ended the City-State War. As well, allowing full annexation of the New Rismali Republic, and the City-States of Fremont and Linton.
